Hera found it difficult to come to terms with the fact that her parents were dead. Where would she start from? She had no other relatives. She had no one. She was truly alone.
Hera sobbed like there was no tomorrow and when there were no tears left to cry, she went straight to the mayor to demand some answers. Her vision was blurry, and she could barely walk, but she got to his office regardless and knocked roughly.
“Who's there?” A gruff voice said from within the room and Hera didn't wait for her to be ushered in. With just a slight push, the door ripped open, breaking into two.
For a moment, Hera was stunned, and she stared at her hands in confusion and awe. How in the world did she do that? She had no clue.
“What the hell did you do?!” The mayor yelled, jolting her out of her reverie. “You broke down my door!” The old man was red-faced, but Hera paid his temper no mind.
“My parents were murdered by werewolves, Mayor,” She said coldly. “Care to explain how that happened?” Her blue eyes, which had become dull and lifeless, zeroed in on him.
The mayor's eyes went wide. “What? What the hell are you talking about?”
“You heard me, Mayor!” Hera screamed, completely distraught as her lips quivered. “They were murdered in cold blood. I was the only one that survived.”
The Mayor looked at her in disbelief, his eyes carefully surveying her bloodied clothes and disheveled state. “You're mistaken, Miss Kline. What you saw was probably an ordinary wolf—”
“I know what I saw!” Hera bellowed, yanking at her hair. “Those things were not ordinary wolves. They were monsters, three of them! They moved with such speed and agility unlike anything I've ever seen before. Don't look at me like I'm crazy!” She fumed, and the mayor let out an exasperated sigh.
“Look, I know you think you saw werewolves,” The mayor began calmly. “But I can assure you that they are not.”
“Well, how do you know that? We share borders with a werewolf town for f**k's sake! For all we know, they probably leaped in, killed as many people as they could and crawled back to their stupid town like nothing happened!”
“Don’t be ridiculous, Miss Kline. The werewolves have not stepped foot in our town for thousands of years and besides, I have no other record of any casualties. I want you to think carefully about what you saw. When you do, you can come back here.”
“But I'm sure of what I saw!” Hera cried and the tears which she had been holding in began to fall. “It was the werewolves. They did this!”
“I'm going to have to ask you to leave, Miss Kline,” The mayor said, eyes flashing and an animalistic growl escaped Hera's lips. It sounded so inhuman that the mayor took a few steps back, eyes wide.
“Please leave,” The mayor said, completely terrified, and Hera shot him one last angry glare before storming out of the office. Anger surged through her veins and her body itched to destroy. To kill. She stormed out of the office and headed out.
She had no idea where she was going, but she just kept walking, ignoring the strange looks she got from the people passing by. She was aware of how terrifying she looked and how horrible she smelled, but she didn't care. She just kept walking till she reached the forest.
Her eyes landed on a particular tree and with an angry bellow, she landed her fist on its bark. The tree snapped in two, falling in one swoop. The bones in her wrist and fingers snapped, and she let out a loud cry, falling to her knees.
The pain was excruciating and tears spilled from her eyes, but suddenly the pain began to fade to a dull ache till it was no more. She blinked twice, unable to believe what was happening.
“My bones were shattered just now.” She whispered under her breath, examining her hand which had completely gone back to normal like nothing happened.
“What the hell is happening to me?!” She screamed, standing up on her feet. She began to punch tree after tree and her broken bones fixed at every punch. She destroyed as many trees as she could until she couldn't go on anymore.
She couldn't understand what was happening to her. First, her parents were dead, and suddenly she seemed to have developed some strange powers. Was this the work of the werewolves too? Was she becoming one of them?
Hera got up to her feet and went back to the house, hoping that everything that happened was just a nightmare. She hoped that when she got back to the house, everything would go back to normal and her parents would be waiting for her at the dining table with huge smiles on their faces.
With a loud sigh, she opened the door and once again everything came crashing down. The house was still a mess and her parent's carcasses were still on the floor.
“I can't believe it,” She whispered as tears streamed down her face. “They are really gone.”
With a heavy heart, Hera buried her parents that night. Her heart was shattered, and she cried so much that she thought she was going to die, but she couldn't die yet. Not until she found the werewolves that killed her parents.
She clenched her fists by her sides and gritted her teeth. She would find those wolves and murder them in cold blood just like they did to her parents.
Hera's mind was made up. She would do the impossible. She would do what no human had ever done. She only had one destination in mind. She would cross the border and go into Blood-stone— The home of the werewolves.
She didn't give a rat's ass what she would meet there as long as she got her revenge.
