Hera moved around the massive couch slowly, thinking of how she could achieve the impossible feat of lifting it. She could feel the gaze of the two powerful werewolves behind her and their presence caused her to shudder slightly.
Asha tapped her feet impatiently on the ground and that did nothing to ease Hera's nerves. It only agitated her more.
“Anytime now. We don’t have all day, human.” Knox said and Hera gulped. Well, here goes nothing. She had no choice but to lift the couch. She gripped one end of it and attempted to lift it but it didn't budge.
Hera let out a sigh. She sort of knew something like this would happen. Even though she destroyed the mayor's door and several trees back in Wardsville with her bare hands, that seemed like a one time thing that was never going to happen again. Or maybe she just imagined it.
She tried again, gripping the edges of the couch like her life depended on it because it literally did. Unfortunately, her hands failed her and the couch did not move an inch and at that moment, Hera knew she was f****d.
Asha scoffed as she stopped tapping her feet against the floor. “See. I knew it! I knew she was a liar. Just wait till Rune hears about this. He'll have her head on a stake.” She said to Knox and Hera's eyes widened.
She wasn't ready to die yet. She couldn't die right now. Not when she was nowhere close to avenging her parent's deaths. Dying was not an option right now. She closed her eyes and took large breaths, visualizing the rage she felt when she shattered those trees in the forest of Wardsville.
She memorized every emotion she felt at that moment and she felt bouts of pain and rage coursing through her veins. With a loud scream, she opened her eyes and began lifting the couch off the floor.
“Woah!” She heard Knox exclaim but she paid him no mind as she lifted the couch off the floor and completely over her head. She slowly turned to the werewolves and Knox had a stupefied look on his face while Asha looked completely indifferent.
“Humans shouldn't be able to do that.” Knox said with a look of awe on his face as Hera slowly dropped the couch back on the floor. Her breaths came out in gasps as beads of sweat ran down her face. That certainly took a lot out of her.
“Do you believe me now?” Hera gasped, crashing against the same couch she just lifted.
Asha's indifferent expression morphed into a frown.
“I don’t know what to believe, honestly. I’ve never seen a case like yours before. You're not fully human and it looks like you're not a full werewolf either. You're something in between and a creature like you shouldn't exist. You're an anomaly.” Asha spat and Hera flinched at her tone.
At that moment, she felt like Asha's words were highly unfair. After all, she never asked to be turned into this. She never asked to become an anomaly.
“Look, Asha,” Knox began. “Just think about it for a second. Maybe her story is true. I mean why else would she have the scent of both a human and a werewolf? Why would she be a human with werewolf powers? In my opinion, I think she's a werewolf in transition.”
Asha scoffed at his words and Hera gasped in horror. Werewolf in transition? Did that mean she would become a werewolf soon? She would transform into the very thing that killed her parents? She couldn't believe the irony.
Knox turned to her. “Apart from strength and speedy healing. Have you noticed anything else? Like super hearing?”
Hera shook her head, pondering over it for a moment. “No, nothing comes to mind,” Suddenly, she remembered something. “I don’t know if this has to do with anything but the doors and the windows burn when I touch them, except that one.” She said, pointing at the front door.
Asha raised a curious eyebrow. “Really?” She turned to Knox. “Let's go check it out.”
The two werewolves moved further down the chamber with Hera following behind closely. The trio stopped in front of a window.
“Alright, Knox. Go ahead and touch it.” Asha said and Knox gaped at her incredulously.
“Why do I have to touch it? Why don't you touch it?”
“I don't know what will happen so you go ahead and do it.” Asha said, crossing her arms around her chest with a bored expression on her face.
“Well, I don't know what will happen either so kindly go ahead and touch the window!” Knox exclaimed and Hera let out a sigh. She was so tired and she didn't think she could take any more of the werewolves bickering.
“For the love of God, can someone please just touch the damn window and get it over with it!” Hera yelled out of frustration before she realized that she might have just made the biggest mistake of her life. She just yelled at two powerful werewolves and now they were going to eat her alive without remorse.
Hera's wide eyes matched Knox’s but to her surprise, Asha looked at her with an amused expression. That was strange. Why was Asha not beating the s**t out of her right now?
“You've got spunk, kid. I like it.” Asha said instead and Hera couldn't believe her ears. That was the last thing she expected the ice cold werewolf to say.
“Uhm, thank you?” Hera said with an unsure voice. Although she didn't like the fact that the werewolf practically called her a kid, she couldn't do anything about it unless she wanted her front teeth bashed in, so for safety reasons, Hera clamped her mouth shut.
“Come on, Knox. Go touch the window and let's get the hell out of here. I'm starving and we still have to report to Rune.” Asha said.
Knox huffed under his breath. “Fine, I'll touch the damn window.”
