Two: Hello Pet

1485 Words
The breeze surrounded Alice and brought her all the information she needed. There was only a handful of humans in the small settlement. There was no reason to hold back. Mark whined at her side. The dark sky called to their beasts. She too wanted to give in, but as a leader, she resisted. "Now?" he whispered his need was tangible. "Not yet," Alice cautioned as she continued to watch.  A single light stayed on in the small house. One tiny light wouldn't stop them of course. But, taking them by surprise was a far greater aspect for her.  Mark whimpered again but did not beg.  The golden glow faded as the light was turned off and the house joined the pitch black of their domain. Her wolves stood around her just waiting for orders. "Mark, take two with you to block the exits. I'll take three more with me inside the house." "But-" Mark complained. Alice glared at him. "You'll get your ounce of flesh from these vermin, mark my words. But I won't have them running away. This will be a warning to their kind." Mark nodded and trotted off. Alice counted the beats of her heart as she waited. She lowered herself closer to the ground as she crept closer and her shoulders wiggled from side to side. It would be easier to shift and just open the door. There was no doubt about that. But Alice wanted fun. She took off like a weapon unleashed. Her powerful strides took her racing across the yard and she gathered herself before she jumped into the glass window. It was no match for her bulk. It shattered before her and the men inside were showered with glass bits. The other wolves that followed after her each pounced on one of the humans. One went for the screaming man's face to shut him up, and the other went after a throat to achieve the same effect. Alice's foe slept through all of it. She jumped on his chest and his eyes flew open. She enjoyed the emotions that played in his brown depths. There was no denying between either of them what was about to happen. He swallowed hard as he stared at her. Alice smiled as her fangs sunk into his tender chest. She didn't want this over with too fast.  Torture?  Yes, and she'd do it again and again. These demons deserved no quarter. As she was feeding the floor creaked. She and her other wolves turned as one. The warm blood trailed from her lips and cooled as she noted who it was that had disturbed her meal. The strange one. The others growled and prepared their leap. Alice stepped forward. The human wasn't trying to stop them. He wasn't even trying to help the others. His eyes were only on her. He nodded at them. "I can understand your rage, but please, make your kills fast and clean." Her wolves laughed but Alice did not. She tilted her head. What was wrong with this male? He wasn't screaming, he wasn't trying to attack them. Did he have no loyalty to his species?  "I want that one," Mark growled from the door. He licked his lips as he stared at the odd human. "No," Alice answered with a bark. All eyes turned to her. "He is mine." "As you wish, Alpha, but leave us a piece when you're finished." Alice shook her head as she padded closer to him. In her wolf form, she was almost as high as his chest. He didn't so much as flinch as she sat in front of him. "I've made up my mind. This one, I'm keeping. I could use a pet." "What?" the wolf next to her whimpered. "You can't be serious! It's a human and they killed our forest brother!" "This one did not participate," Alice replied. She stared into his deep blue eyes and he stared straight back. For once she didn't want to see the light go out in a human's eyes, at least not this one's. The human still wasn't running. A pack of wolves growling all around him should have awoken some sense of danger in this strange man. But no, he stood there as if awaiting his fate, just watching her and the others. "Please," the voice bubbled from behind her and Alice glanced back. Her meal was begging as bubbles of blood popped on his lips. "Mercy," he whispered as he reached out to her.  She nodded to her wolves, and they descended on the man. His screams were shrill but short-lived. Mercy has been served. The human knelt on the ground and bowed his head. Strands of dark hair standing out against his pale neck.  The others had their eyes focused on her. One last chance for her to back out. Alice could step forward, and just bite his head off. It would be over in an instant, and in her own way, it would be another mercy. A quick fast death. Alice shook her head. No, she'd made her decision. She trotted over to the human and nudged him with her muzzle. He fell backward from the unexpected pressure and onto his back. She reached down as if he was a pup and grabbed his shirt between her teeth, carrying him with her. The other wolves had finished her meal anyway. Her pack howled as they returned to their own sacrifices. Alice ran through the night and back to her own house. She trotted through the cave opening that led to her place and she dropped her cargo off in the corner.  The human didn't move from the spot. "I suppose you wanted to eat me in privacy?" he questioned. Alice shifted. Her wolf form faded away and the embrace of cool fire swept over her body. As the power died down a set of black clothes wrapped around her body. "I'm not eating you." He didn't even blink. What was with this strange being? Was it a broken human? "I didn't know you were werewolves," he said as he studied her. "Why are you keeping me, if not to eat me?" "You are my pet," Alice answered.  Justa's eyes widened as he scrambled back. Finally, there was life to this one! "I understand you wanting to kill me, but a pet? Why would you want that?" "You interest me," Alice replied as she settled down on the worn bed across from him. "Your life is mine. I have rescued you from the rest of my pack. I expect you to obey me, and continue to entertain me." "I will not perform for you," Justa replied evenly. "I'm not a circus animal. Just kill me," his words were whispered with a growl and a flash in those deep blue eyes of his. Alice raised a brow. "You're my pet," she replied with a calm smile. "You have no say in any matters." "Then kill me," Justa ordered again. "No," Alice glanced around the room and smiled as she saw a long length of chain piled up in the corner. She grabbed it and approached Justa. He slunk back into his corner and glared at her.  "Stop," he whispered. He searched the room for an escape. "Please, don't do this." Alice ignored him and locked the steel chain around his throat. "There, it's a little heavy, but it will work." There was a snuffling at the entryway from the tunnel beneath and Alice peered into the hole. A pair of golden eyes looked back at her. "Alpha, this is dangerous." Alice waved the other wolf in. "Does he look dangerous to you? This human is different, he interests me. I didn't wish for him to die, so I made him my pet." Mark wrinkled his muzzle. "He will kill you while you sleep." "You can understand each other?" Justa asked as he took one step closer. Alice smiled at him, a mere flash of her bright white teeth. "Yes, human. We can understand each other no matter what forms we attain. Perhaps one day you too will be able to understand me when I am in my wolf form." "My name isn't human." Alice ignored him. "As you can see, he's no threat. I have chained him up with my old pet's chain, and that one wasn't a human so this one has no chance to escape." "I still don't like it. You know the others are worried this is going to risk your position. I won't follow another Alpha, just you." Alice smiled. "Thank you, Mark. Your loyalty is appreciated. I will deal with the others. They have been seeking a way to take my power away from me since I won this position to begin with. Don't think I'll give it up so easily over a human." Mark chuckled. "However, the human is mine. I will not have anyone else approach him or try to dissuade me from keeping him. He will be my pet until he dies, or until I get bored." "As you say, Alpha." Alice smiled again. The human was watching her. "Human, sit. It's time for some obedience training." Mark laughed again as he left the way he came and his merriment echoed down the dirt tunnels.
