Maddie's POV
I squinted my eyes as the sun was shining into my bedroom. I groaned because I felt like sh^t. I never drank again after I got over Ash and I don't know why this led me to loose myself again. I turned to lie on my back as I ran a hand over my face. I wanted to lie like this for the rest of the day. Sh^t, I have to work!
I sat up straight but held my head in my hands as I groaned. I hate to be hungover and this was the sh^ttiest ever. "Good morning," I heard a voice and I looked ahead of me, squinting my eyes. But they are huge now.
"Mariko? What are you doing here?" I asked in shock. I ran my hand over my face again, hopefully this is a dream. I looked his way again and he was still sitting in the recliner in the corner of my bedroom... I looked around to check if it was my bedroom, but it was. I held his gaze again.
"You were drunk last night and I brought you to your apartment," he said with a little smirk. He was still in a black suit, sitting with one leg crossed over the other, his arms resting on the arms of the recliner, continuing to hold my gaze. I slowly remember that we were at the club and he carried me away.
"I must have been embarrassing myself," I mumbled as I ran my hand over my face again. But then I saw that I was in my white t-shirt and I removed my white blanket from me. I was not wearing pants. I snapped my head up, he was still smirking.
"You did embarrass yourself, you were vomiting when I brought you here. You messed on yourself too and I was forced to change your clothes, and don't worry, nothing happened. I put you straight to bed thereafter and you were out like a candle." he said.
"You saw me naked," I sighed, not that I didn't enjoy that, but still, this was a man that I hardly knew and he had a...wife. Realization dawned on me again.
"I didn't have a choice now, did I?" he c^cked his head to the side, still smirking.
"You have a wife." I raised an eyebrow. This time I was not feeling any electricity because I was feeling like crap and he has a wife. He was in my apartment. "Were you here the entire evening, watching me sleep?" I asked.
"I stayed the entire evening, watching over you. I tried to get in some sleep but this recliner isn't comfortable, but I wanted to keep an eye on you because I didn't want you to choke on vomit." He looked at the ground beside my bed and I turned to look at an empty bucket that he placed in case I threw up again. I turned my attention on him again.
"You didn't answer me about your wife," I scowled at him.
"There is water on the bedside table with painkillers. There is an apple too," he said. Was he avoiding my question?
"Answer my question," I said slowly, so that he had no choice but to answer.
He looked away and shifted in the recliner. "Things are complicated with my...wife. I don't think that is the right word to call her now. We had been separated for months and we had been falling out of love. Usually the next question would be "what did you do to her?" Well, to answer that, the question should be "What did she do to you?"" he held my gaze as his expression became serious and the only glow in his eyes held me, like an inferno that was burning.
"What happened?" I asked, which was barely a whisper. "You both seemed so happy five years ago."
"She is what happened, and nothing can fix anything." he said with a sigh as he started to get up from the recliner. "Also, putting up appearances as if we are happy in front of everyone was starting to become difficult...You should get ready for work, or better yet take the day off, I will inform Lana that you won't be coming in..." he looked at me as if something had shifted within him. "Get well soon and rest," he said before he walked towards my bedroom door.
"Wait!" I said. He stopped at the door and turned around to look at me. "Thank you for bringing me home and taking care of me. I have a question," I said as I bit my bottom lip.
"I'm glad to help. Ask away," he said with a curious look on his face.
"How do you know where I live?"
"I deal with resumes too and when I saw you again after five years, I needed to know more about you and that is how I know where you live, because your address is on your resume," he replied, trying his best not to smirk.
"You knew this whole time and didn't tell me?" I asked.
He shrugged. "It ruins the fun," he finally smirked. "Take care of yourself, good girl," he walked out of my room.
Good girl. I have been far from being a good girl since I indulged in alcohol and that is thanks to Ash that made me depend on it in the first place. Maybe there is some sort of hope when it comes to Mariko, but that will not happen because I have to stand my ground with rich men. I will not put myself in that position again and to think that Mariko saw me naked besides my thong. Of course, he saw my breasts because I didn't wear a bra with my dress last night.
I hugged myself. Mariko Donovan saw me naked. Now, a blush decides to creep up in my cheeks. I can't believe I put myself in this position and I was embarrassed and self-conscious. How do I face him after this again?
