-Blake-
Arya stared at me before she pulled that damn dagger away. Her eyes burned like gray fire, and I told myself not to get sucked into her vortex. She was like a tempest pulling me in… and I would be stupid to follow the temptations.
If I allowed it, Arya Tamran would be the death of me, and I would be the death of her. I didn't want either. I couldn't.
"Arya, wait... you have to understand why I couldn't have you as my Beta... It is not saf-" I tried. I really wanted to make her see that it wasn't just because of whatever that was now between us. It was only a lie, anyway, on my part. I knew why I had to do all of this. For her.
She turned and looked at me, and for one second, I saw it. That flash of vulnerability. The one she wouldn't show to anyone.
Everyone treated her like she was a wolf, but she wasn't. One wrong move and something bad could happen. Something bad did happen.
I wondered why they couldn't get that. Was it because they subconsciously believed she was a wolf, too?! I didn't understand why everyone already forgot what happened to her when I- I shook my head with a hiss. I hated to even remember that. No.
"Oh, Blake..." Axel sighed.
"I wouldn't be your Beta even if you begged."
The vulnerability was gone in a second. I cursed the day I found her in the woods when she was just a tiny little thing. I should have just left her there. But those big gray doe's eyes... I sighed and looked at her. Arya Tamran was gorgeous. The things that came out of her gorgeous mouth... now they were pure ugly.
Arya and I had our differences now, but...
"By differences, do you mean her homicidal intentions towards you?" Axel said with a snort.
"Yeah, yeah, whatever."
"Man, that girl hates you with a burning passion. If you two were the last people alive on Earth, she would gladly kill herself to get away from you."
"Nobody asked for your opinion, Axel."
"It is your fault. She is... she is so f*****g gorgeous with those pink, pink lips that I wouldn't mind sucking my co-"
"Shut it, mutt. You f*****g pervert." He really was, but then again, so was I.
"What is wrong with you? I am trying to-" I didn't even know what the hell I should say. It was always hard... Finding words when she was around, and she was always around, with Asher or Ayden, and I hated it, but I had made up my mind once, and so much had changed after that.
I growled softly. Her eyes flashed like stormy skies hit by lightning bolts. Her lips went flat. Lips... plump, tempting lips that were begging to be bitten and goddess, I wanted to... I shook my head, pushing the indecent thoughts out. No. NO.
"Why the hell not? Just stop being so... boring."
"You know why the hell not, Axel."
"Go f**k yourself because no one else will."
"I am not the virgin here," I growled out.
This was why Arya couldn't be my Beta. Whenever we talked, it somehow became twisted and would turn into some kind of angry altercation. Talking with her wouldn't solve anything. She was stubborn as a mule.
"So are you. Match made in hell!"
It wasn't always like this, but now this was our normal. This anger and resentment. This feud and animosity.
"You think I am a virgin?" Her voice was mocking as she took a step towards me, and I hissed. She was so close. And my brain felt like it was being electrocuted.
And what did she mean? What the HELL did she mean?
Who was that fuc.king as.shole that dared-
"I will break his d**k and then feed it to him." My wolf roared. "I will break his bones and-"
I ignored him. I had mastered the art of blocking him out when it was not needed. His anger was making me lose my calm, and I couldn't understand why the hell this was affecting me so damn much. For the Goddess's sake, she was nineteen. Why would I even assume she was a virgin? What the fu.ck was wrong with me, and why did I care that she wasn't?
"Think again..." She pushed her dagger into my stomach, dragged it down, and I felt the tip pressing lightly against the elastic waistline of my boxers. My c**k jerked in response.
Satan's big sister. She was everything bad about the world and everything good in it. She was always unpredictable, and it was exciting and exhausting and dizzying. I had been living with her most of my life, and yet I didn't know who Arya Tamran really was.
"WHO?" I growled out as I took a step towards her, and she raised her chin defiantly as she looked at me. Her maddening gray eyes twinkled as she licked her lips. "ARYA, tell me."
"Is that any of your business?" she said as she leaned closer to me until I was drowning in her scent.
She smelled like lavender and vanilla. She smelled like heaven and hell. And I was still naked, except for my boxers, and I prayed she wouldn't look down. I was ashamed of the way my body reacted to her, but it had been reacting that way for a while now, even though I knew it was so f*****g wrong. It was as if my c**k had a separate brain that worked differently from my normal, sane side.
"If you don't tell me now-"
"What? You going to run to your Mommy and tattle?" She stood on her tiptoes and looked into my eyes. My heart was pounding, and I felt sweaty and hot.
I gulped as she looked at me and down at my lips. She licked her lips. "You really want to know?" Her voice was a soft whisper. Teasing. Tempting. I nodded. It was as if I was a puppet, and she was pulling my strings.
"Well... the only thing you need to know is... it was not YOU. It is never going to be you." She turned and walked away, leaving me panting and staring at her back. A loud growl left my lips as I stalked the entire length of my room, as my body burned in anger.
Something was wrong with me. I hated... I hated this.
Who was the fucker that dared touch her? Everyone knew she was off-limits. Everyone knew she was- she was... I punched my wall and growled.
"You alright, Blake?"
"Mom, sh.it... turn around," I said, quickly pulling my pants up. She laughed and shook her head.
"I heard you growl. What happened?"
"It is nothing," I said, and then I remembered something.
Arya and my mom were so close. My mom had always wanted a daughter, and yet she was blessed with three boys. When Arya came, my mom was besotted. Well, f.uck, everyone was besotted. When our Beta's mate, Arya's adopted mother, died, my mom took it as her job to spoil Arya and she shared everything with my mom. Everything. Including how she wanted to kill me, the methods she would use... And what would my mom do? Laugh and give her chocolate cakes. Yeah, why the hell not?
"So... does Arya have a boyfriend?"
My mom's eyes sparkled. "Did she say something to you? Is it Kevin?"
"Who the hell is Kevin?"
"It is the barista who works in her favorite cafe. You know, by the-"
"Yes. Dessert Life. I know."
"Well, of course, you know. Wait... oh, or maybe it is Ayden. I saw the way they were... you know..."
"Ayden? You mean our Ayden?"
"Of course, you warned the whole pack, but you forgot to warn your brother..." Axel said with a smirk. "And now it is coming to bite you in your ass."
"Oh, forget it. That is not why I came. Why don't you consider making Arya your -"
"She just said she wouldn't be my Beta even if I begged. Did she change her mind?" I said with a scoff as I ran my fingers through my hair. My mom let out a long sigh as she sat down. She patted the bed, and I took a seat next to her. She looked at me for a second, a look of worry disturbing her usually peaceful face.
"You know Arya. Not in a million years would she change her mind once she decided on something. She is stubborn, just as stubborn as you. I know she is strong, but I am still worried about her. I am always worried about her. This isn't her world, we aren't her species, but she is the bigger, better part of our world, and it would kill me if something bad happened to her." My mom's eyes were blurry, and my heart twitched when I saw her like that. I grabbed her hand in mine.
"Arya is resilient, Mom. She can take care of herself. But what made you so worried suddenly?" My mom took in a deep breath as she stared at me.
"She is going to Alerean."
My body jerked up. My eyes widened.
"She won't survive a day..." Axel whispered, looking edgy. "Just make her our Beta. You can keep her safe right here."
I stood up with a growl. Wouldn't she think, just think, before she acted?
"Will you talk to her?" I nodded.
I couldn't let her go there. I knew that place. It was a training institute as far as everyone was concerned, but... In reality, it was where the pack sent their rebellious, wayward wolves, who were a danger to the pack's safety. It was like a juvenile detention centre for wolves.
But it wasn't just the wolves. The bad wolves were only half of it.
The training in Alerean was pretty extensive, and wolves recovered only because of their immense strength and power. It was a cutthroat world, disconnected from the rest of the packs and pack laws. How would a fragile human survive it? Did she not think about that, any of that? Why was she so f*****g stubborn?
"I will. Where is she? Do you know?"
My mom looked at the clock. "She must be with the guys. Training."
I walked towards the training arena, and Josh joined me. "You look deep in thought? Is it about Arya? What did she do now?"
"Nothing. She is- such a pain in my ass."
"And you like it," Josh said with a grin, and I shook my head. Best friend or not, sometimes I wanted to punch him in the throat.
"What are you talking about?"
"Just that you would go mad without micromanaging her. Just let her be," he said. I frowned at him.
I was going to say something, but then I stopped when I saw Arya sitting on top of Ayden, her face flushed and sweaty. She had that crazy look in her eyes, one she got whenever something excited her.
Did he excite her?
My body burned as she laughed at something Ayden said to her, and Ayden looked comfortable as he looked up at her, still lying on the ground. I gritted my teeth as emotions swirled inside me. Wild and crazy. Unforgiving and punishing.
"Okay, okay, you win..." Ayden's voice said as she got up and then gave her hand to him. He grabbed it and jumped up from the ground, and wiped her sweat off her forehead.
"Good strategy, gorgeous, but you cheated, you know," he said with a smile, and she shrugged.
"All is fair in war. Can I ask you something, Ayd?"
"Go on."
"If you become an Alpha... will you choose me as your Beta?"
"Am I the first one you are asking?" Ayden grinned and gave her a wink. Ayden had always been the charming one in our family.
Ayden and Asher were twins. Ayden was the charming one. Asher was the calm, shy one. I- I was just-
"You are the grumpy ass.hole, right?" Axel said with a huff. "No wonder Ayden got the girl."
"No. I had already asked Asher. He said he wouldn't kill Blake, not even for me."
I gritted my teeth. Josh put a hand on my shoulder as I whirled away from them. I had heard enough.
"Yes. You are awesome. You can be my Beta and My Luna, too." Ayden's voice was flirty. She laughed and shook her head as her blonde hair danced in the air.
Was he the one... I didn't even want to think.
My ears rang. The pressure inside me built and built. I shook my head, took a deep breath, and walked away.
She could go wherever she wanted. It was none of my f*****g business. I didn't care if she went to Alerean or if she stayed here with Ayden. She was not my obligation...
"Blake... you are making a big mistake."
I stormed away with a growl and shifted as I reached the woods.
The wind rushed past Axel's fur as we ran deeper into the woods. And then I heard it. The sound of footsteps following me. I wasn't alone anymore.
Axel stopped, his body poised to attack. He whirled around and growled and then stopped when he realized it was just Sam, Asher's wolf, and Arya. Why was she every-f*****g-where?
She got down from the wolf and gave my wolf a smile. Oh, yes. It was only me who got the glare.
Axel was preening like a peacock. His tail was wagging so fast.
"Green is not a good color on you."
"You okay?" she asked Axel,, and he nodded. For an Alpha, he was a weak-arsed b***h when it came to her.
"Want to play with us?"
"Play? Say NO. What are we, kids?"
Axel howled and nodded.
"What are you doing?"
He ignored me.
"The one who catches a rabbit first wins. But Axel, do not kill it." She waved her finger at him.
Axel howled.
"Aww, but I am hungry, Arya."
"You know she can't hear you, right?"
"I know you are hungry, but I warn you, Axel. DO NOT KILL."
What the hell? How the hell did she hear my wolf? That was impossible.
"Let's go, wolves."
"Do not let her go to Alerean, Blake. Please."
I was going to shut him out when I heard a squeal and a growl. Arya.
Asher mind-linked me. "Blake... why are rogues so close to our territory?"
"Rogues?"
"And Arya... Arya is surrounded... There are four of them."
