Isla Kalashnikov (P.O.V.)
I could not believe that just happened. Despite my ego being crush into tiny bits, I felt horrible about everything. I did not get hired and he rejected me as his mate. I was so overwhelmed by emotions that I just laid in bed crying but no sound was coming out of my mouth. I have been crying for hours at this point and I feel like I have no tears left to cry.
First, I was rejected by my real parents and now my soul mate. What is it about me that people who are meant to love me just do not accept? You would think by now that I would get accustomed to the rejection, but it still hurts so much, and I do not know how to handle it. I cannot go to my foster parents because they just would not understand due to the fact that I have to leave out certain information that is really vital and crucial to how I am feeling.
I was obviously still in emotional pain, but my tear-stained face was no longer being moistened by any more tears as I literally could not produce any more tears. I could tell by the burning sensation in my eyes, that they were puffy and red.
Sniffling quietly, I got off my bed and made my way downstairs into the kitchen for a glass of water. I honestly felt like I was going through a heartbreak. I guess this can count as that because my literal soul mate just rejected me.
As I made my way to the kitchen, I tried my best to ensure there was no one around so that they could not see me in such an emotional mess.
I successfully made it into the kitchen without being noticed by my parents. Unfortunately, as I was filling the glass in my hand with water, I heard footsteps, which only meant that someone was coming into the kitchen as well.
I quickly splashed some water onto my face and began the journey back to my room with my head down as to avoid any unnecessary eye contact.
“Hey honey. Are you okay? I thought I heard crying earlier. I would have come in, but I felt like you would have wanted some time alone.” My mum said, resting a hand on my shoulder.
For some reason, being asked if I was okay, opened the wound again and I burst into tears. My mother pulled me into a hug and as she wrapped her arms around me, she guided me to the living room so we can sit on the couch.
As we sat down on the couch, I rest my head on her lap as she played with my hair while I bawled my eyes out.
“What is wrong honey? Do you want to talk about it? Does this have anything to do with the interview?” She asked yet again, in a soft, calming tone.
“H-he s-said that he did not want to hire me because I did not have what it took to be his personal assistant.” I cried even more as I reminisced about the things he said and the way he said them.
The way his face contorted to disgust as he rejected me as his mate.
Like, why am I not good enough? Am I not pretty enough? Is that it?
I choked on my own saliva as I took a deep breath to cry some more, and I began coughing uncontrollably. My mother immediately stood up and began patting my back frantically.
Just then my father came down the stairs, feet pounding against the floor, as he rushed over to see what was going on.
“What is going on?! Is someone dying! Sweethearts are you okay?” My father frantically checked my face and my pulse before he noticed my tear-stained cheeks.
It was then his eyes glowed a bright purple and I stepped back in fear.
What the hell.
“Honey!! Your eyes! Calm down.” My mother yelled and I looked at her in disbelief.
What is going on?
They are not humans.
“W-what is going on? What are you??” I demanded, looking at them shellshock and disbelief as I continued stepping away from them.
“Honey there is something that you should know. Something that we wanted to tell you a very long time ago, but we were not sure how to because you are not like us. We were not sure how or if we could have coexisted and I did not want anything to get in the way of us being able to take care of you and love you.” My mother said, as both her and my father took a seat.
Still weary of the situation, I decided to take a seat far away from them.
My parents took a deep breath and looked at each other as if searching for approval.
“Well?” I asked urging them to give me an explanation as I grew more impatient by the second.
My mother cleared her throat and my father held her hand for support. I almost rolled my eyes at them.
“We are fairies.” Was all she said as they waited for my reaction.
At this point, I was unsure if I should laugh or actually take them seriously.
“What?” Was all I said.
I really did not know what to say or ask because I was unsure whether or not they were being serious.
“Honey, there are things in this world that are not known to humans because they are hidden. There are creatures that walk amongst us that we would not think to even exist in real life, but we cannot let out their secret as it is not our story to tell. However, as we are a part of a species that is completely harmless and coexists with humans just fine, we are willing to let you in on the secret.” My father explained and it made me think to myself about what I had to go through in silence because I thought they were humans.
I could tell them about my secret and maybe we can live secret free and in the open. Maybe now I can be more intact with my wolf, and I can feel whole again.
“I am a werewolf.” I blurted out without a second thought.
My parents’ eyes widened, and they covered their mouth in disbelief.
For a second, I thought I saw their eyes flash with fright.
“Why do you seem scared of me?” I asked quietly, feeling a bit hurt that they were scared of me.
My father sighed and leaned forward in his chair.
“Honey, werewolves and fairies do not get along well because they are of a dominant species, and we are kind of considered as nobodies in the realm of mythical creatures.” My father said.
“I will not hurt you. I care about you too much. That is why I suppressed my wolf for so long.” I explained and they gave me worrisome looks.
“This is not good at all. You are a rogue. We always thought it smelled like wet dog in here. Now we know why. Honey, you need to be apart of a pack otherwise you will be targeted by other wolves, and this can put all of us in danger. Soon enough you will find a mate and you will have to leave.” My mother said, as she began to cry at the thought of me leaving home.
“I already did, and he rejected me.” I said, bursting into tears again.
“Oh honey. Come here.”
Both my parents embraced me into a tight hug and tried to calm me down.
“We have a friend of ours that can help you with the job search. He is the Chief Executive Officer at a Lawyer firm, and he is currently looking for a personal assistant. Maybe you would interest. He also apart of the supernatural realm so everything will work out just fine. As a matter of fact, he has four kingdoms in which he is the leader of, so maybe you can join one so you would not have to be so lonely.”
My mother said in excitement, and I jumped in joy. Finally, things are beginning to look up for me.
My parents know my secret, they are also supernatural beings which mean that they may understand my struggles. Now I can be more open with them, and we can finally have that bond that I have always dreamed of.
“Are you hungry sweetheart? How about you help me in the kitchen while your father goes on to make some phone calls for you.” My mother requested and I happily obliged.
My mate long forgotten. I do not need him. I will be fine on my own because I have people who want me.
While standing in the kitchen, helping my mother chop vegetables, I decided to learn more about the real her. I obviously knew some things about fairies from the stories and movies, but I did not know much about the real-life fairies. Obviously.
“So mum, do you have like wings and stuff?” I kind of felt dumb for asking, but I was genuinely curious.
My mother chuckled and I blushed.
“Yes, I do. We are just very good at hiding them. See.” She waved her hand in front of my face and it was as if she cured my blindness.
I no longer saw her as a mere human. She was surrounded by a bright aura of light and her wings were almost as big as I am. They looked transparent but colorful
. I was so tempted to touch them, but I did not know if that would be okay.
“I know you want to touch them, but I would advise against it. Due to adaptation, fairy wings are now poisonous to werewolves. One touch and you can become paralyzed for as long as an hour. They contain a fine dust, like pollen, that if inhaled can put you to sleep, but it needs to be intentionally released by the fairy as a defense in battle.”
I nodded in understanding and I continued asking her questions as it was quite fun to be able to talk about this stuff with her.
Then my mind wandered to something my father said earlier.
They smelled wet dog. I smelled the same thing when I went to the interview earlier. Does that mean that everyone in the building is a werewolf?
Duh. It took you long enough to figure out.
My wolf suddenly chimed in.
I jumped a little, taken aback by the sudden intrusion which gained a curious look from my mother.
“Sorry. Sometimes my wolf speaks to me unexpectedly and it startles me.”
She nodded in understanding and patted my back while chuckling at me.
“I remember the first time; I met your father and we found out that we were soul mates. We did not like each other at all but we were young and stupid. After years of feuding with each other and denying the bond, we fell in love. Unfortunately, fairies cannot conceive because we are mystical creatures, and most times couples are awarded a child to raise. However, we were not so lucky, so we decided to raise a human child on our own. Of course, we did not go looking, but it just so happened that you showed up on our doorsteps. Maybe you were our award. Either way, I am happy I had the pleasure to raise you as my own.”
My mother kissed me on my forehead and smiled.
I felt so accepted that the hurt from earlier slipped away and I smiled in content.
Who needs him? I have my family.
Alessandro (P.O.V.)
I needed her. I missed her so much that I felt like I was losing my mind. I tried the to forget her the best way that I could by involving myself with multiple women but none of them made me feel the way she did.
I did not want to admit it, but I was going crazy without her. My wolf felt it and so did I. I felt so conflicted about the whole ordeal. I did not want to be with her at all because I just did not want to be tied down. That lifestyle is not for me. I cannot handle it. I think I am doing her a favor by letting her go. I know for myself if I had her I would not treat her right and I would not care.
I am a selfish person and I always get things my way no matter what. This is why I have the strongest pack across America and why so many international packs want to be my ally.
I think at this point, I deal with the pain and let it go gradually and not give in to my emotions because it will not end well for anyone.
I heard a knock on the door of my office and before I could answer, the door swung open and the girl I currently had on top of me was grabbed and flung off me.
“What the hell is wrong you Alessandro?! This is a place of business not a brothel!!” I heard my mother yell.
The girl, whose name I have forgotten at this point, ran out of the office, frantically trying to fix her clothes as she did so.
I looked at my mother and rolled my eyes. I know it rather childish of me to do so, but honestly, she did not scare me, and I could not care less right now.
“You need to clean up your act this instant. I will not have your father’s company fall to the ground because of a spoilt brat. You are ruining this company’s reputation and I will not stand for it. Clean up your act or you are out of here.” She scolded me and I did not like that.
I can feel my wolf getting close to the surface because he did not like being challenged.
I got off the chair and walked up to her. Fear filled her eyes and she backed away from me, but I did not stop there.
I grabbed her by her throat and slammed her against the wall.
“I think you have forgotten your place once again mother. I am the boss here and your alpha. Show me some damn respect or get out of my face. I will not kill you for the sole reason that you are my mother, but that will not stop me from reminding you where your place is when it is clear you have forgotten your place.” I let her go and opened the door, motioning for her to get out.
She was not wrong. However, I will not let her know that. I am never wrong, and I stand by that, but I think it was about time this pack go on a retreat. We going to become, bigger, meaner, and stronger. This is a promise.
