She thought of taking a loan from her workplace but she already tried and was rejected. So she would try getting a loan from the bank and pay back monthly. She hoped the hospital would be patient with her....... "Ma'am!" The taxi driver called out to her dragging her mind from her train of thoughts. "Yes" she answered bleakly, trying to compose her thoughts. "We are here" he pointed to the hospital building. "Oh! Thanks" she said as she paid the taxi driver and got down from the taxi. She steadied herself and walked smartly into the hospital. She needed to be strong, for herself and her mother. She met the hospital cashier and made a down p*****t. It was early in the morning, she ought to be at the bank by now. So she quickly collected her receipt and walked out of the hospital, making a mental note to come back to see her mother and also doctor Hopkins. *********** Max looked at the documents on his table, he massaged his temple as he felt a headache building up. He has not slept a wink for the past three days. He had papers to sign, meetings to attend, files to check. His email was packed up with unanswered message. He could not wait for the Suarez project to be over. The Suarez Corporation was one of the best housing companies in New York City and every business or firm will be opportune to get a deal with them. He should count himself lucky. The Suarez project was a big deal he could not afford to loose so he needed to put his all into the project.Right now his family company was the biggest Real Estate Company in New York City and he was not about to slack off. He hated coming second in anything and he definitely would not take second in business. Max stood up and strolled over to the counter in his office, he needed painkillers to continue, he opened the fridge and took out a bottle of water, he looked at the water, it was as empty as his soul. All he could think about was revenge, he threw the painkiller in his mouth and gulped a good amount of water down his throat. He thought how the painkiller tasted similar to his life, bitter. He lost his brother seven years ago and ever since then, his life had taken a drastic turn, from a happy life with all the love of his family to a bitter and sad one, with so many responsibilities. But all this started with just one person, Cindy Bailey!. Now he thought of it, he had to visit the bank. His meeting with doctor Hopkins had been a successful one and now he had to speak with the Central Bank manager as he was informed by Raymond she visited there the previous day in request for a loan. He will convince them to reject the loan, so he would be her only option. He picked up his phone and dialed Raymond's line. After three seconds of ringing, Raymond answered "Hello boss" his voice reverberated through the phone "I am ready to leave for the bank" "Alright" Raymond walked to the garage of the Anderson Real Estate Company building, drove out to the entrance of the building in wait for his boss. Immediately, Max got there, entered the car and they drove off.On their way to the bank he asked, "Have you checked in with the bank already?" "Yes and there is every possibility she will get the loan" "We cannot let that happen"he said calmly with his tone giving off a tiny bit of evil."I want to make sure I am her last resort" he said "Okay boss, what do I do?"Raymond asked. It was his duty to serve Max, so he had to do so, whatever the circumstance. "I'll meet with the bank manager first and make sure she gets rejected" Max said dispassionately. "Have you made the transfer to Bryant Hospital?" "Yes I did. p*****t in full" "Good" He said with his face showing no ounce of emotion. Raymond watched his expression from the mirror. Max was troubling himself with the affairs of this Cindy lady when he had an important project at hand. Was it really worth it?. He sighed focused. ********* Cindy left the bank in high spirit. Her request for a loan had been accepted and now she was waiting for their call on when the money will be dispensed. She could finally pay for her mother's treatment. She walked out of the bank going into the street when she spotted a figure. He looked familiar but she could not place her finger on where she could have seen him. They were many who looked alike she thought to herself but continued down into the streets. Her cellphone rang and she put her hands in her bag to retrieve it. It was her mother calling, she smiled down at the phone. "Hello mom" "Cindy dear where are you? "I just left the bank after tending to some issues there" "I hope you're not having a loan from the bank?" she asked worry in her voice. "Let's not talk about that mom. How is your health?" she changed the subject. "I am in a good condition right now thanks to you.The doctor said my health's improving and that I'll be back on my feet in no time. Doctor Hopkins has been very attentive and he is caring for me the best way he can. I am blessed to have you two" Sophia said joyfully. "Mom, I am the one who is fortunate to have you. So please stay strong for me. Promise me you'll stay strong for me " "I will my baby girl. I will" She said wiping a tear which slid down her face" Now hurry up and come over, I want to see my angel" "Alright mom. I'll get you something delicious when coming" Cindy said Sophia hanged up and her expression saddened. Cindy has been working her butts day and night for her medications but she couldn't do anything for her daughter because of this illness that has plagued her for three years now. She felt useless and burdensome to her daughter, sometimes she felt like she should just die and save Cindy all the trouble, but she felt evil for thinking such as she knew it would break her. She just had to keep fighting, for her baby, until her last breath. Her daughter could no longer face torment. She has been in misery since the death of her father and she didn't want to add to her daughter's pain. She looked towards the door and saw the nurse come in with her daily meditations. She would fight and get well soon and then Cindy can enjoy her life without worries. She wanted Cindy to have a life like every other young woman her own age. She wanted her to fall in love, get married, have children, enjoy her marriage, go in fun trips, go for shopping and so on. Taking care of her sick mother did not give her room for those things. So Sophia was determined to get well for her daughter to be happy. She would fill the void the death of her husband created in Cindy's heart.
