35 - 35 - Aleph’s hand remained on Genna’s shoulder, shuddering. Or maybe that movement was from Genna. She knew she was shaking. She couldn’t stay still, not when there was such an obvious answer to all her problems a few short steps away. Byrnia had her screen out, and kept on glancing round, both across the space and back the way they’d come. Genna wondered if they’d been followed. And maybe that was better. They’d sit here, trapped, and then Garrick’s troops would find them. Byrnia would fight, and Genna was sure she’d die. Aleph would try to protect Genna, and that saddened her.
