33 - 33 - The rocking motion brought Genna back into the room, and she looked up to see Aleph. And for a moment she believed everything was going to be fine. “Hey,” Aleph said. Genna tried to respond, but could only offer a smile. It said more than words, anyway. “You back? You kind of faded out there for a while.” “Just thinking.” But Genna couldn’t tell Aleph what those thoughts had been. “Your speciality. Anyway, Byrnia called‌—‌she says she’s got news.” “News?” Aleph started to speak, then closed her mouth for a moment, shaking her head. “You want a drink?” she said eventually. Genna didn’t know. “Okay.” Aleph rose and poured water into a glass. Genna took the glass in hands that seemed too far away, but the water was cold and refreshing. It almost made her feel better.
