SORRY for the delay. My mother passed away late April and it's been hard to find motivation. Let alone time. I'm going to be doing court dates since she didn't leave a will and I will have to move soon so I am hoping to get this done while I have motivation to finish this book and to stop leaving you all hanging.
"Luka, we... we're just going to have dinner, you, Patty since she insists, and Dimitri. Ivan isn't welcome because he knows how important tonight is." Vlad told me as I went to get dressed. I had a hard time letting Violet go, my wolf was on the teetering edge. I pulled on thick slacks, and I went for my bag that someone else brought to the hotel room for me and found a button up that wasn't too wrinkled. "Luka-"
"I heard you Vlad. I get it." I told him as I looked up. I was just getting started buttoning my shirt and he got to the end of the bed and moved back to start pacing back at me again.
"I just want you to be calm." He told me and I just nodded before getting to my full height and taking a deep breath. I rolled my neck, reigned in my wolf, and nodded to him. "Let's go down, we will have a good time, Patty will stay calm... all will be well."
"Yes my king." I saw him roll his eyes, and while I would never do as Ivan did... I would like to tease and have a good relationship with him. Patty was making us all get to know each other, we all got to see each other no matter what at family dinners... and I think it has worked in the way she wanted for Vlad and I.
Dimitri and I had always been close, but he would never have been someone I would turn to for help. He was a little naive when it came to secrets and helping others. He had a good heart but it wasn't always the best at spotting bad things that Ivan would do.
We got to the end of the hallway and I saw Ivan walking past us, no notion that he knew what was happening, that he even recognized us, and he got to the door and looked almost mechanical as he got the key out.
I brushed it off and kept walking. If he wanted to act like we weren't there, then we could have a good night.
We got downstairs, we ate, we talked about tomorrow, who would stand with me, who would be marrying us, then we got onto 'when we get back' talk.
What kind of ball we should announce my mating, when we would try for kids... stuff that we should be asked together.
I didn't answer most, I told her that we would need to talk, and while she was Luna, and she was supposed to be unconventional, I had to think why she wanted a big ball. "Mate of mine... why the party planning so soon?"
"What?"
"I was thinking the same thing." I told Vlad and Patty looked from me to him and then gulped.
"We can invite others to the ball, other princesses and princes..." That's when it hit me... she missed her princess best friend from America.
"I thought you would invite her out when the babies come." I told her knowing it would be within the month and she kind of deflated and I heard a growl from beside me.
"Her mother thinks it's bad luck for another princess to stay with newborns when she herself isn't mated." I felt for her, and I wanted her to have her friend, so I agreed for her to tell Princess Ariel about me having a introduction ball and I would just tell my mate that it was tradition.
We went on for a couple more hours, and I was happy to go to bed. Knowing tomorrow we would have nothing but to do but get to the hotel, to get dressed and stand there and say my vows.
I got in bed and felt the need to turn over and pull my mate into my arms, but this would be the last night without her. She needed tonight to herself, I get that. Somehow I understood, maybe it was because she said so.
I guess that was a good philosophy. I slept like a log, hearing some kind of shouting before getting out of bed. It was barely dawn and I walked out into the main room to see Ivan with pure white eyes, foam coming out of his mouth and his jaw clenched. He was growling and our aunt was over him, with a lamp, losing her edge as she asked him if he was ok.
He was growing his snout, he started to twist and crack with his shift, but then he was limp and asleep and I got closer to see what was going to happen. "What happened?"
"I got up, and he was just standing there, white eyes, like he was vacant. I tapped his shoulder, nothing, then his eyes snapped to me and I screamed, so I hit him and he called me an insolent b***h, and so I wacked him... He fell over and started to growl and shift." My aunt told me and I nodded before moving to touch his neck. Looking for his pulse, which was strong, and even... like he was sleeping.
"He's ok. I will get him in bed." I told her and she nodded before putting the lamp down. I pulled him up, his eyes opened but then shut as if he wasn't there. "He's probably just drunk Aunt Ruby, sleep, please." I urged as I pulled him into his room and I got him to the bed before opening his eyes and seeing no pupil response. "Ivan, wake up." I slapped his cheek a few times, gently but hard enough to move his face.
"I'm fine." he mumbled out and turned away from me so I sighed and got up. I crawled back into bed, not seeing anyone else getting up, and I got to the end of the morning, my sleep in time, and I walked right to the bathroom.
I s**t, showered, and shaved. I cleaned up, I got my suit on, made sure not to crease anything, and I got to the main room and saw everyone but Ivan, and I looked to Dimitri.
"He had a spill last night, scared Aunt Ruby, do you want to get him up?" I asked him when he looked towards Ivan's room.
"Yeah." He nodded but then there was a knock on the door. Violet's brother Costin was here. "You guys head down, I will get him down there." He told me and I nodded, collecting Vlad and Patty, our aunt and uncle hadn't sought me out this morning but that was ok. I would see them before the ceremony started.
I kept up with the mated couple with me and we headed down, I saw her mother, her father, and her sisters, but no Violet.
I smiled and stayed on the step I was supposed to be on, and while her family was here, we were waiting on the twins, my aunt and my uncle. After 10 more minutes, Vlad was up and pacing.
"Something is wrong." He whispered to me and I nodded. "Now, do we marry you off, or check it out first?"
"Marry me, then we can see what is going on. I don't like them all not being here, but she will be mine no matter what after the vows incase this is what this is all about." I told him and he nodded before he went to talk to her father.
It took another 5 minutes for her to be walked down to me... and the moment my eyes landed on her, the worries melted, and she was all I wanted. I wanted her beside me, happy and glowing just like she is now.
The dress made her beautiful but it was her smile that made her elegant. She walked, smiling at me and she seemed to only notice me. I grabbed her hands and pulled her up on the step with me. I smiled back and she took a deep breath and looked to Vlad as he started to introduce us, our mating that would be in no question, and then he opened the room for challenges.
No one did, no one would, and then we said our vows. I leaned in to kiss her when Vlad whispered 'hurry' in Russian. I kissed her, having her ring on my hand I leaned her more back and pulled her hips in closer and when I looked up I saw Ivan there, same thing he was wearing yesterday and last night, his sleeve rolled up and I could smell burning flesh.
"You..." He pointed at me, or what seemed like me, but seemed to be Vlad. "Alpha King, get your nose to the ground, find your buried, when you collect the clues you will redeem the land you're so fond of." He held up a knife, which was burning his flesh since it was silver and he stabbed the middle of his wrist before he laughed and dragged it down towards his elbow.
"Ivan!" I heard Patty cry out, and he smirked his eyes started to turn white again, just like last night. He was shifting, but he couldn't with the knife in. I got closer, putting my mate behind me and keeping her there. I growled and grabbed the knife, knowing that if Vlad tried this we didn't know what would happen.
I pulled it out, and in seconds Ivan was still bleeding but in wolf form. He growled, he whined and then he tried to stand up and cried out at the feel of his leg. "You don't know what just happened do you?" I asked his wolf and he took his breathing and looked at me in a way that conveyed no.
"We don't have people buried here." I heard Vlad behind me and I looked back at him and shrugged before realizing that Dimitri was supposed to be with him... and he wasn't.
"We need to find Dimitri, Aunt Ruby, and Uncle Dragomir. Now." I told him knowing if some of them were out there all night they might be close to death no matter if they were wolves or not.
"He can't go." I heard Patty shout and I looked over at her, she was clutching her belly and grabbing the side of the chair too. "We can't.... Vlad!" She cried out and I stood slowly from my brothers side to watch my sister in law leak her fluids all over the carpet.
"What a wedding day." I heard my mate call out and then she slapped a hand over her mouth and send me a smile.
"You're stuck with the chaotic family now." I moved closer, seeing her smile and shrug.
"I won't be bored. My brothers can help track." She told me and I nodded slowly before hearing Ivan growl at his own leg.
"I need to fix his leg." I told her and she nodded. "Where can I get things for stitches?"
"We have an emergency kit, I can get-"
"I can do it. I just need to clean it and stitch him." I leaned in, smiling at my wife, my mate, and gave her a kiss she seemed happy to keep short this time.
Before she could get me the kit there was an alarm sounding... avalanche. I looked to my mate, brought her with me and we were helping me brother while the others took off and helped who they could and when I was done with Ivan I started to make calls.
Dimitri showed up, head wound and freezing and was with Patty and Vlad. When nightfall came Vlad sent Patty and Dimitri to stay with us in our new room. Technically it was the honeymoon suite.
Then Vlad was going to take off by himself so I had to stop it. I got in front of him, "I will go with you, just let me tell her." I told him and he shook his head. "You know my wolf... I might not be the best fighter but when I let it take control-"
"Ok. Hurry we need to find them." He told me and I nodded before going to Violet who was trying to make Patty as comfortable during her labor as possible. She was going to call for her mom when the contractions got closer together, but it was a simple thing for us wolves when we actually had babies. She would be a good mom. So would my mate when we had the chance.
I looked over at Ivan who looked ready to get up but he was groggy from whatever happened to him besides the self inflicted wound. "You're here to protect them, nothing more." I told him and grabbed a change of clothes before heading to the door where Vlad was standing with his eyes closed. As soon as I opened the door he was pushing his way out first.
"Bring them back in one piece." I heard Patty order and I looked back in and nodded.
What the queen wanted, we had to deliver.
