CHAPTER FIVEThe woman who had called out the welcome was the housekeeper, Mrs. Lynch. She had been at Rosscullen House since the time of Rosaleena’s grandfather. Rosaleena had always imagined that she must then be very ancient, yet this tiny lady, despite her halo of white hair, seemed to have the energy of someone half her age. I thought I’d never see the day.” Rosaleena watched as her mother and Mrs. Lynch embraced. Sir Uriel looked on from the carriage door. At last the two women drew apart and Mrs. Lynch turned her bright bird-like eyes upon Rosaleena. “And this will be Rosaleena! Sure to Heaven you have the look of your poor father on you!”
