The loud humming and whirling of the belt sander filled the entire garage and grew even louder especially when the small, six-inch aluminum pipe was pushed sternly against the sanding belt and then side to side while it rested against the level work-table. A bright white and orange line of sparks from the aluminum pipe followed the circumference of the vertical band. Other sparks jetted down and out from the bottom of the worktable like small shooting stars heading in every direction towards the cement garage floor. Any striations in the metal were quickly grinded flat and smooth by the sander, making the polished metal brighter and hotter to the touch. To ensure its smoothness, Perry rubbed his gloved finger over the slightly flattened portion of the pipe. It was not as smooth as he requi
