Chapter 2

"What am I supposed to do now?"

Suddenly there was a knock on my driver's side window. it was Derek Nathans beta. I rolled down my widow. "hey I saw you sitting here, are you ok?" Derek asked in a concerned tone. "did you know?" I asked, his mood quickly turned from concerned to pity. "he told you?" Derek said "yeah" I replied "you knew this would happen eventually, he's a wolf an Alpha wolf, of course he'd have a mate" Derek said pity in his voice.

"of course I knew this would happen I'm not an i***t, things have just gotten complicated is all" I replied. "how so?" he asked curiously. "it doesn't matter" I said. "it's nothing you have to worry about I um I just got into med school so I won't be around much" I said. "that's amazing when do you start?" he asked "September" I answered Simply. "that's great I'm really proud of you. "yeah thanks" I said "anyway I should get going" I said turning my car on "oh before you go the pack is hold a celebration dinner for Nathan and Sarah, your family's invited" Derek said.

"Alright I'll let them know when is it?" I asked "Wednesday at 6 casual wear" he said. "alright I'll see ya" I said as he stepped away from my car and I rolled up my window. I smiled at him lightly as I pulled out of my parking spot then drove off.

I didn't drive straight home. after I coincidentally got far enough from the pack house my car started acting up. I had hoped it would make it home but not even halfway there my car died and refused to start again. I suddenly noticed smoke coming from under the hood and got out and opened up. white smoke covered my face and I began to cough as I tried to fan it away from my face. "f**k" I said as I just stared at it. I took a deep breath and let it out.

I then turned and walked into the woods. I was in the middle of the nowhere, to far to walk home and definitely to far to walk back to the pack house. the day wasn't even half over, and I was already fed up with it. so I just walked a couple feet into the woods. let in a deep breath.... and... screamed, causing all the trees and brush around me to shake as if it was affected by an earthquake in result.

after I was done I walked back to my car closed the hood and tried to start it again, this time it tried, and got close but failed. so I just sat there. I would have called someone to help me jump the car but my phone had died and I had no charger. honestly it was almost like my car knew I wanted to be alone.

after 2 long hours passed, my car finally started. I was back on the road again and after about a 15 minutes of driving on the highway, I made it home.

"Amber what took you so long" my mother said running outside worry filling her face "my car died" I said "why didn't you call?" my father asked walking closely behind her "my phone died" I replied just as simply. "are you ok, you look pale"I'm fine just having a bad day" I said not looking her in the eyes. "Nathan and his mate Sarah will be holding a celebration dinner on Wednesday and we're invited Derek told me its casual wear" I said in attempt to change the subject.

"he found his mate that's great" my mom said with a light hearted smile. "oh and I got into med school" I said. "you... you got into med school" my mother said tears now filling her eyes. "My babys gonna be a doctor just like us" my mother said now crying as she began hugging me tightly.

she spent the next 10 minutes crying and hugging me.

the next day, Monday, I went to the pack house to work with Nathan, working with him Monday helped be decide that I had to tell him and so Tuesday I tried.

"Nathan?" I said his name to get his attention as he was signing documents. "hm" he said not looking up from his paperwork "I have to tell you something" I said nervously. "you already told me you got into med school amber you really don't have to remind me" he said no emotion in his words. "no it's not..." " listen Amber" he said interrupting me. "I really don't have time right now can you just go do your work somewhere else?" he said finally lookup at me.

I was in shock. he'd never once spoken to me like that, not once in our entire friendship. "uh y-yeah, I'll go" I said holding back tears. I then slowly walked out of the room.

I stood in the hallway for a moment when suddenly Sarah popped out of nowhere. "oh Amy it's great to see you" she said all chipper. "it's Amber Actually, and it's good to see you to Sarah" I replied kindly. I had no reason to be rude to her after all. "if you'll excuse me I need my mate" she said skipping away into his office and closing the door behind her. after a moment the same rhythmatic banging from before started.

I clenched my fist in anger and suddenly heard the wall c***k from behind me causing me to release the fist I had made, I took a deep breath, in attempt to stay calm. it didn't work much. I understood she was his mate, but he kicked me out because he was busy and didn't want to talk and now he was F*****g her, so much for being busy.

is this what the mate bond did to wolves? change them? Change them to the point that all they care about are their mates? was this what was going to happen to all of my other friends who were wolves? what they looked forward to? "How idiotic" I said to myself walking away.
