Chapter 3 - Settling In

1501 Words
Once Adam and Scarlett had arrived at the Penthouse Suite, Terrance showed them around a little before departing and allowing them to settle in a little before their upcoming dinner. Scarlett was beyond amazed by the extravagance of this place. The room, if you could call it that, was more like an entire floor and contained everything she could have possibly imagined. The bed was an Alaskan King-sized bed which could have easily fit ten or more people on it at once. Decorated with a set of crisp, white Egyptian cotton sheets, plush white and gold trim blanketing and more pillows than she could possibly count, it was crying out for her as she passed it by. She would enjoy jumping on it soon enough. There were three bathrooms in total, including a massive ensuite the size of the kitchen in her old apartment. Each contained an open shower, a toilet and a spa bath, along with countless fluffy white towels and bathrobes hanging up along the tiled wall. A large bar area was located at the far end of the suite, stocked with almost every kind of alcohol she had ever heard of, plus others she hadn’t. And beside it was a large heated jacuzzi with bubble jets and coloured LED lights. A large smart TV could be found in almost every single room, though Scarlett wondered why this was the case. Who had the time to watch TV in every single room of the suite? It seemed overly excessive to her, but who was she to complain? And finally, the walk-in robe of her dreams was revealed to her, causing her jaw to slacken in a mixture of both shock and wonder. Racks of designer clothing in her size had already been purchased and displayed neatly, including every single article of clothing she may ever need. Assorted bras, dresses, swimwear, shirts, pants, skirts, hats, shoes, sunglasses, jewellery and even underwear, still with the original tags attached to them! It was beyond anything she could have ever imagined, and here she was standing right in the middle of it. Once Terrance had left Adam proceeded to walk across to the bar and pour himself a glass of scotch on the rocks. The sound of the ice ‘clinking’ in the glass could be heard as Adam began pouring in the amber liquid. “So? What do you think?” he asked with his left brow raised proudly. “Will you be comfortable enough here?” She turned to face him with a look of confusion. “Wait, this is all for me?” she asked, “Why aren't you staying here with me?” He shook his head with a smile as he spoke. “I have my own place just two blocks down from here. It’s one of the many apartments I own.” He turned to face her and noticed the concerned expression painting her gorgeous face; she was now hugging herself and judging by her body language, she seemed somewhat uncomfortable in such a place. “I can’t stay here Adam.” Her words were solemn as she suddenly refused to meet his gaze. Adam placed the large glass liquor bottle back down onto the bar and picked up his glass before walking across to stand before her. “What do you mean?” She glared back at him now. “You know exactly what I mean! This place, it’s far too extravagant. It must cost a fortune. I don’t even want to know how much a single night here would set me back… I’d probably be paying it back for the rest of my entire life!” “Lucky for you, you don’t have to worry about any of that.” he countered, his casual smile widening as he took a sip and swallowed. “Maybe I should just go and find a motel-“ “-Nonsense, I insist that you stay. This place has everything you’ll need to get yourself back on your feet again. And until this whole mob thing sorts itself out, I’m not letting you out of my sight. I need to know that you’re safe at all times, Scarlett… please don’t fight me on this.” “Adam…” she shook her head slowly, her brows furrowing in discomfort. “I’m serious. This isn’t up for a debate.” his tone now coming across as far more serious. She let out a sigh of defeat, crossing her arms and unintentionally pushing her breasts up higher as she rolled her hazel eyes arrogantly at him. “Fine.” Adam chuckled as he placed his glass down onto the nearby bench. He came to stand behind her now, wrapping both arms around her waist, bending forward and leaning his head down into the crevice of her right shoulder blade. “You know you look really sexy when you’re angry. It’s a real turn on.” She giggled, shaking her head at just how cocky he was being. “Is that so?” she asked, a devious smirk curving the corner of her mouth upwards as he began to brush his lips across the skin of her neck. She closed her eyes and couldn’t help but enjoy the tingling sensation he was now causing her to feel. She could feel each of his warm breaths fanning out across her skin as he stuck his moist tongue out and trailed it along the length of her neck. Heat began to pool at her needy centre, her breathing becoming heavier as her eyelids struggled to remain open. “Adam…” she moaned softly, causing his manhood to harden from beneath his clothing. But as it had, he suddenly stopped, realising what he was still wearing underneath his trench coat. A hospital gown. He had come directly from the hospital to find her at the airport and hadn’t had the opportunity to change into clothing beforehand. Sensing that he had suddenly stopped and not knowing why, Scarlett turned herself around to face him with a questioning expression. “What’s wrong?” Adam laughed awkwardly, rubbing the back of his neck nervously as he replied. “It’s nothing, but I should probably go… I have some things to sort out with my mother before I get ready for our dinner.” She felt somewhat disappointed, but she nodded forcing a smile. “I understand.” “Just settle in here, make yourself at home. Feel free to choose anything you like from the wardrobe to wear out tonight. I’ll be back here around seven to pick you up for dinner.” He leaned in and gave her one last kiss on the lips before he turned and made his way out of the suite, closing the door behind him. - Once she had taken a look around the suite, Scarlett decided to have a nice relaxing bubble bath to try and relax before getting ready for her date with Adam. After carefully washing her hair with expensive lotions that smelt like grape, she rested her head against the edge of the spa bath, a glass of Merlot in her right hand as she finally got the chance to relax and enjoy herself. Her eyes closed and for the first time in a very long time, she felt totally at peace. All worries of the Mafia and her past experiences with her crazed ex-fiancé were slowly disappearing form her mind as the soap suds fizzed and bubbled around her. - It took her around an hour to get herself ready for their dinner date. Her hair had been blow-dried and styled in large, loose curls and she kept most of her make-up simple, except for the black smoky eyes and ruby red lipstick.  She had chosen that shade of lipstick specifically after selecting a dress to wear from the massive range in the wardrobe as Adam had suggested earlier on. As soon as she saw the dress she knew it was the one she would wear tonight; it easily stood out among the rest. The sexy, plunging chiffon dress was a bright crimson shade and had a high slit on the left-hand side to reveal as much leg as possible. With her hourglass figure and her long, slender legs, it fit her like a glove. The V neckline at the front of it showed off her incredible cleavage with thin straps on either side of her shoulders and an open back. As she stood staring at herself in the full-length mirror, dressed and ready, Scarlett couldn’t believe how amazing she looked. She had chosen a pair of matching crimson heels with diamantes at the front and a small clutch purse that matched. Before she knew it there was a ‘knock’ at the door and she quickly glanced at the clock. The time read 6:59pm. With a nervous smile, Scarlett took one last quick look in the mirror before making her way across the suite to open the door.
