I set my phone back on the kitchen counter, my hand trembling after the call with the utility company. They’ve considered my request this time, but I’ve been warned it won’t happen again. Having lost the diner job, I feel like there’s nothing to occupy my days anymore. It kept me busy; now I have too much free time. Tim was fired, I remember suddenly. He lost his job too.
