Red Shadow stayed behind the temple. It saw the snake and neighed to warn its owner.
Mu Qianmei was awakened by Red Shadow's neigh, but she paid no heed. She turned over and went back to sleep.
The snake hissed, wriggling through the temple with its head up. It reached Mu Qianmei straw bed.
Dull with sleep, Mu Qianmei heard Red Shadow's urgent neigh again and she also felt imminent danger.
She immediately turned over and sat up.
The snake was scared by Mu Qianmei's sudden move, so it reflexively bit her arm at the moment she sat up.
Sharp pain in her arm brought her wide awake at once. She saw a colorful snake and cried out in horror, "Ah! Snake!"
She had always been most afraid of animals such as snakes and mice and she would feel cold and shivered when she saw them, so she cried out by the light of nature.
After a bite, the snake turned around, wriggled to the door, and quickly sloped off.
Mu Qianmei felt her arm went numb and twigged that she was bitten by a poisonous snake.
She sat down at once, untied a hairband to tighten the upper arm, cut the wound, and began to suck the venom out.
She took a sip and then spit it out, kept repeating the process.
She sucked until the blood was red and then stopped.
At this time, the moonlight was bright. She immediately ran to the stream, cleaned the wound, and gargled with clean water. Looking at the stream, she didn't know whether there was anything horrible inside, so she got up and went back to the small temple in fear.
She saw Red Shadow trotting to her as she stood up. It seemed to be a little relieved when it found Mu Qianmei was able to walk. It shook its head and snorted, using its own way to comfort Mu Qianmei.
Mu Qianmei tapped Red Shadow's head, "I'm alright. Go back to where you were."
Mu Qianmei watched Red Shadow returned to where it came from before she edged back to the temple and sat on the straw.
She didn't practice inner magic anymore, nor did she dare to continue to sleep. She sat on the straw bed, still in a state of shock.
From time to time she looked at the ground, for fear that another snake or mouse would come in.
Mu Qianmei had never been so scared. Helplessness unexpectedly caught her.
She kept a stick, which she had prepared during the day, close at hand, in case of another accident.
As the day began to light, Mu Qianmei felt dizzy. She knew that the venom had not been completely cleaned up and was spreading in her body slowly.
She supported herself up, edged to the door, and called Red Shadow here. Red Shadow stood at the step and she climbed up its back with difficulty.
When Mu Qianmei finally mounted the horse, she patted its back and continued her journey to the west.
Red Shadow trotted smoothly as if it knew that its owner was not in good health.
Lying prone on the horse's back, Mu Qianmei felt dizzy. She knew she was running a fever and felt nauseous. Her consciousness had gradually become blurred.
"Am I leaving this world? But I still have a lot of things to do here! I'm going to develop the Beggar g**g, the college, and other businesses. What's more, I still don't know the little girl's background. How can I just leave this world?"
Mu Qianmei struggled to keep awake. She felt that she was losing consciousness. She could not hold on any longer...
"Can Red Shadow take me to Xichu? If it can't, will I get the chance to travel to another continent?"
It was her last thought.
Red Shadow trotted in the valley. It became anxious as it felt its owner was in a coma.
As it trotted, it looked around to see if there was anyone nearby.
But he never saw a soul in the wilderness.
Red Shadow didn't have the concept of heading in a certain direction. It simply chose a flat way to go.
Suddenly, it heard human voice on the hill and looked up.
But there was no way to go up the mountain but a steep cliff.
It had to stop and neighed loudly for help, hoping to get the attention of the people up there.
On the mountain was a hundred-year-old man with white hair and white beard, and a cute young boy of twelve or thirteen.
The old man was benign and looked like an immortal. He walked in the mountains like walking on the flat ground, light and calm.
What's rare was that the boy also had a good skill of lightness. He ran and leaped on the steep, rugged cliffs of the mountains like a swallow.
He carried a small basket on his back, in which he put some strange flowers and grass. It turned out that they were gathering herbs.
The boy bounced about. Each time he found a precious herb, he would shout in a voice of excitement and triumph, "Master, master, I found another herb! Hahaha... am I capable?"
The immortal-like old man would laugh, gratified,
"Hahaha... Well done, well done! You have better eyes than me! We'll soon have all the herbs for today. And when we find the other two herbs, we'll go back."
Just then he heard the faint hiss of a horse at the foot of the hill.
He listened intently. The urgent voice sounded like cries for help.
The boy saw his master stopped and listened carefully, so he asked,
"What's wrong, master? What did you hear? I didn't hear anything."
The immortal-like old man said seriously,
"There seems to be a horse neighing for help at the bottom of the mountain. Get on my back and let's go down to have a look. Maybe its owner is in danger."
The young boy heard that someone was in danger and immediately stopped smiling. He obediently got on the old man's back. The old man carried the young boy and came to the place where Red Shadow stood in a few hops.
Watching someone flying down, Red Shadow shook its head and stamped the ground with his fore-hoofs to seek help.
The old man observed the unconscious girl on the horse. Her right hand held the reins tightly and her left hand was swollen and black. Obviously, she was bitten by a viper.
He put down the boy at once, hurriedly moved Mu Qianmei to the ground, and took out his silver needle to rescue the little girl.
Then he pressed out the toxin in her body and protected her heart with his inner magic.
He knew that although the girl was temporarily out of danger, the toxin in her body had not been completely cleared away, and further treatment was needed.
Then he told the boy to ride the horse. He took Mu Qianmei in his arms and ran to their house at once.
...
It was the third day's morning when Mu Qianmei woke up.
She opened her eyes and saw a boy of twelve or thirteen years old sitting in meditation not far from her bed.
The boy looked cute and he was absorbed in meditation. Mu Qianmei felt thirsty and wanted a glass of water, but she couldn't bear to interrupt the boy immersing in practicing inner magic, so she waited with patience.
She looked at the room. It was a simple thatched hut, but very neat and clean, and it gave her a refreshing feeling.
About an hour later, the boy opened his eyes. That was a pair of limpid eyes, clever and pure. Although he had been twelve or thirteen years old, his eyes, as pure as infant's, could easily provoke a heartfelt adoration.
As experienced as Mu Qianmei, it was the first time she had seen such a pair of eyes on a boy's face. It seemed that he had never entered into society at all. He was as simple as a blank sheet of paper.
The boy opened his eyes and immediately looked to Mu Qianmei on the bed. He was happy to see her awake and staring at him,
"You are awake, sister! You finally wake up! Do you know? You have been sleeping for two days and nights! Oh, sorry! I was in meditation and didn't see you wake up. What do you want to eat? I get you some food!"
He sounded surprised and sorry. Mu Qianmei smiled mildly and spoke in a weak voice,
"That's alright, I've just woken up. I'm thirsty. Can I have a cup of water?"
"Of course. I'll help you." The boy answered and rose to his feet, and hurried to pour water.
Mu Qianmei drank a mouthful of water and felt better. She asked.
"Little brother, did you save me? What is your name?"
"No, not me, it's my master who saved you. My name is Liu Tingfeng. My master went to gather herbs. He asked me to take care of you at home. What's your name, sister? You are so beautiful!" The boy answered and asked in curiosity.
"You have a beautiful name, too. My name is Mu Qianmei, and my nickname is Little Butterfly. You can call me Sister Butterfly!" Mu Qianmei faintly smiled and answered.
"Your name is beautiful. Do you like butterflies? I like them, too. There are lots of butterflies on this mountain. Do you want to see them with me when you are recovered? By the way, my master told me that I can see the butterflies but cannot catch them. They are beautiful only when flying freely. Sister, you don't want to catch them either, do you?"
Liu Tingfeng said in delight and advised.
"Yes, your master is right. We don't catch butterflies. We can appreciate them at a distance." Mu Qianmei smiled.
"Oh, my master told me you need to have some chicken soup and porridge and take medicine. The medicine is bitter, but don't be afraid, sister. It can heal your wounds!" Liu Tingfeng said in a tongue of teaching.
Mu Qianmei felt his words very warm. A pure and amiable feeling bloomed in her heart. She replied to him softly,
"Yes, I listen to you. I'm not afraid of bitterness. Can you help me with the medicine?"
At this moment, Mu Qianmei felt completely relaxed without miscellaneous thoughts, as if she had become a kid again. All the rivalries seemed no longer that important.
Sometimes, the simpler life she had, the closer she was to her true self.
"It will be so happy if I can live a simple life like this!" Mu Qianmei thought.
Therefore, Mu Qianmei accepted the care from Liu Tingfeng with a childlike mentality in this small thatched hut on the top of the mountain, and happily chatted with him.
As if she had been away from all the troubles.
