Dallie walked on as if she hadn’t heard Grégoire. She walked fast and heard the car door slam shut. She had no idea if she was thankful for that and was relieved, but there was a part of her that regretted what she had done. Was it right to ignore him and be embarrassed in front of her neighbors? She was partly guilty, but she thought she shouldn’t be. Besides, she did not want to encourage him. She did not want his attention whatsoever.
