Talen paid little attention when Kanika and her pet witch left the proceedings. Her departure didn’t amount to a bucket of spit as far as he was concerned. She was a small-time player in the world he sailed in. With time and energy, Talen hoped to break into the council of captains that ran Freeport. He realized it would take time and energy to worm his way onto the council. The way the rules were written, it was near impossible to gain the power he sought.
He needed to grow a fleet with enough ships following his orders so he might force his way onto the council. The arrival of the black ships and what they represented meant little to Talen unless he found a way to parlay their attacks to an advantage.
