Silas - POV
(Jake -Alpha Silas meeting)
Jake walked into my office. His deep-set brown eyes stared as he sat opposite me, his arrogant attitude evident. His aura felt ominous.
I was unsure if he was human or something else, as his attitude confused me.
"Mr. Ford, I am here to discuss a deal," he said, running his hand through his brown hair.
"What might that be?" Jake tried to study me, but a little annoyed expression flickered under his arrogant exterior.
"I understand you are sponsoring Elena, but I am here to save your day. Why don't you invest in my project, and the profits will be guaranteed? Unlike risking your investment in someone sure to go downhill," he said with confidence and a smirk. For a second, a wave of energy brushed my skin as if trying to convince me of what this asshole remarked. Strangely, there was something else behind Jake's background, and I needed to get Mac and Yuri to gather information on him.
"Mr. Smith, I am pleased to be offered such a great deal. But I love taking risks in life to reap bigger benefits," I said calmly, though I wanted to beat the s**t out of him, and my wolf was eager to do so.
"You are making the biggest mistake, Mr. Ford. I was here to save you from it. As your well-wisher," he said calmly, though it was easy for me to read him. He looked confused and irritated at me.
"I didn't ask you to be my well-wisher, Mr. Smith. I know what I am doing. You may leave." He couldn't utter anything more than walking out with a fuming expression he couldn't hide from me. Talking to a trashman like him is such a waste of time. I called Yuri to ask about the Pack report.
"Alpha, how did it go? Tell me, are you going to mate Elena? Will she be our Luna? I am so excited," Yuri spoke enthusiastically. Already Jake's trash had given me a headache, and Yuri's energetic voice heightened the headache.
"Yuri, I called you for the Pack report," I rubbed the bridge of my nose.
"Oh," she sighed out loud. "No rogue attacks, no more problems to solve. The elders of the pack insist you speak with them about Elena."
"What about Elena? Mac said that the elders asked her to bring Elena to
pack some so they can check if she is a late shifter, taking her to the Moonflower chapel," I said, clarifying.
"No, that's not it, Alpha," I heard guilt in her voice.
"Spill," I growled at her.
"Well, the pack elders know that Elena is your second mate, and they want to meet her. Two elders want you to accept her as Luna to give you and our pack an heir, even though she is human. Others want to reject her as your mate," Yuri confessed, hesitantly speaking.
"How on earth did they discover it?" I asked.
"It's my fault, Alpha," Yuri said. She explained that her mom excitedly spilled the beans when one of the Pack elders. I sighed in frustration.
"Great, I must put up with the pack's elders pestering me. I had warned them not to have this topic until I got the second mate. The elders will now get back at me for mating."
"Thank you for the screw-up, Yuri," I hissed.
"Sorry, Alpha," she whispered before I disconnected the call. The image on my desk of Maya and me staring at me. I took the frame in my hand, remembering the moment of happiness and love I had three years ago.
My childhood and teenage years were miserable. I went from being a Rogue Alpha to becoming the pack's Alpha, which was difficult because I had to fight to get there. I didn't know about my parents because they left me in the middle of the forest, and I survived through my instincts from a young age to avoid getting killed by the Rogues. Some Rogues helped me by giving me dirty work to earn and eat.
The Alpha had no heirs in the Silver Canines Pack, so the elders gave every Alpha bloodline to enter the match. Even the Rogue Alpha or the Pure line, an Alpha can battle to get the throne. I fought to get the power with my teeth and nails and eventually succeeded. The Silver Canines Pack was not enthusiastic about my win over the throne, and they couldn't accept me as their Alpha because of my rogue status. I knew this would be a problem, but they gradually accepted me as time passed, especially after Maya, the Pure Alpha, became my mate. She changed the perspective of the pack members, who still held the same thought of me. She showed them what I was doing as Alpha and how the pack prospered more than before.
But the happiness didn't last long when I found Maya's lifeless body on the border of the pack territory. I killed every suspected enemy after Maya's death but couldn't find the truth about what happened.
No one knew what happened to our Luna when I was away from a conference meeting in the Human Realm. The pack supported me in my grief. I didn't want the pack or elders to know about Elena, as I was wary of someone from the pack who could have had a hand in taking Maya away from me. What if my assumption is valid? Elena could be at risk. Also, the dark figure from the pack tried to touch Elena. Could it also have something to do with Maya's death?
This mystery of dark figures is something I have to solve alone and not let others find out. I want to make things right this time and protect Elena from everything. It will uplift me from the burden and remorse of not being able to protect my first mate.
