Chapter 9: Damien

2034 Words
Damien's p.o.v Do you ever want something so much that you build your entire life around its fantasy, that you live, breathe...even dream about it. You long for it so much that you couldn't crave anything else, couldn't think of anything else. Nothing matters, just that imaginary world and you. But when you finally get that, it doesn't feel right. It's not what you dream about. Nothing at all. You felt...disappointed. And that's exactly what I am feeling right now. Disappointed and angry. But I can't do anything about it. They are my family after all. Even though they are not even close to my imagination, I still love them. I should love them. Sighing, I crouched down on my chair. After taking a quick shower I came straight to pack office. It's strange for my Beta to be this impatient to talk to me. It must be important. He was sitting right in front of me with an annoyed face, other wolves are also here, standing behind him with a poker face. This office started to feel small because of their extra huge body. " Sit.", I ordered and they stared at me for a moment and then crouched down. There weren't enough seats so instead of going and bringing more chairs, they just sit on the cold floor, leaning over the brown wooden wall as if it were a bed of roses not a dirty hard surface. See, that's what I was talking about. None of them has a mind of their own. They will do whatever I say without a blink. I want them to fight me when I'm wrong...argue with me, speak at least. But no, they will walk on fire with closed eyes if I say so. And that's not what I want. I want them to have a backbone, have a will of their own. I remember they weren't like this when I was taken nineteen years ago. God knows what my father had done to them all these years. Perhaps, I wasn't the only one who was getting tortured... My eyes soften as I watched them. It will take time but I'll make them like before. They don't need to be scared of me. I am not my father... I do look scarier than him though. Ugh, if I had a face like Ryu. Except for omegas all the wolves are giant and strong, we also have numbers. My pack is the largest and strongest. But, it doesn't have a brain. And that's the most important thing. Brain. Without it, we won't be able to survive what's coming. And believe me, it will come. After what I did... As soon as that thought crossed my mind, I shrugged it away. There is no use in getting frightened of a thing that's not even happened yet. It will happen, just not today. I shifted my gaze at my beta, or should I say, my brother. He was waiting for me patiently with an impatient face. Why is he looking so pissed today? " So, what makes you come here this early in the morning?", I asked, leaning over my chair comfortably. " Don't you have a school to teach?", I smirked and he gave me a look that speaks I'll punch you in the face. Ignoring me, he gestured for the other wolves to leave us alone. I think he really is going to punch me. When everyone left he finally looked at me again with gritted teeth. " How can I teach without fear when there is a rogue running wild in the fields?", he almost shouted. He is the only one who can dare to do that. And I am glad. I'm tired of being treated like a god. It's boring. " Why hadn't we thrown that piece of s**t out of our town yet..." " Daniel.", I warned when he spoke a little too much. What that girl had done to him anyway... " A human family adopted her, we don't mess with humans.", I gave him a pointed look before picking up the file I need to sign today. Business is also boring. All I had to do is the same work every day. Everything is bland... Dull. Colorless. Just like my paintings. " Anyway, I told Marcus to take care of it." I sighed as I signed the documents without reading. I'll tell Ryu to check them for me " That i***t is hooking up with her brother... He is useless." Oh. Marcus is into men. That's new. But... " Didn't he has a girlfriend..." " Yes, he has.", Daniel grumbled making me smirk, " Now that's something interesting..." Daniel hadn't said anything after that. Just sighed. His breath looks nervous. That means he has done something without asking me...again. " Last night I send Ken to threaten her mother..." I knew it. Stupid brat. He is twenty-four but his actions are like teenagers, even Draven is more adult than him. " He told her that girl has a mental illness and something like that." I looked up to his face, to see if he is serious or not. His blue eyes were bright and gleaming, face sterner than ever. He is serious. Mental illness. Can't he think of something else? I don't think any mother would believe it. Judging his face, I am sure there is more, " And...", I raised my brow, throwing the file on the table and picking up another. There are four more. I'll sign them quickly so I can complete that painting of mine. That girl is a pain in my head, why can't I forget those curls?! Daniel scratched the back of his head. There is definitely more. " She called the cops...after throwing injections at him.", he looked down at the desk and then me, " He is in jail." I laughed. Now this pack is getting entertaining. I have to call that human sheriff though. Poor Ken. " Humans!", I shook my head, focusing back on the file. " I felt bad for that family though, they adopted a crazy head instead of a child." I don't like calling people crazy but...Rogues really are nuts. Living alone makes their mind insane. Loneliness can make anyone wild. I am a living example of it. No. Technically I am a dead example of it. But, it's the same thing. Everyone is dead one way or another. I stretched my arms, picking another file now, just two more. " Anything about her past?", I asked while resuming my signing. " Nothing...and you know what's more weird. The orphanage she was living in...guess how many children are there?" I stopped, noticing the sudden seriousness in his tone. Putting the pen aside I glanced up at my brother. His blue eyes were darker. It happens when he gets too serious. Just like father. He looks so much like Father. Unlike me. I am more like my mother, I guess. Not the mother I call mother...the other one, the real one. Who left me when I was born. But I don't blame her. No one can live with that monster. I've no idea why Daniel and Draven's mother hadn't run away. She should have though. " Damien...are you here or on the clouds again?", Daniel shook me lightly, shaking me out of my thoughts. I blinked my eyes, " I was...I was just thinking. What have you asked again?" He scowled but repeated his question anyway. " The orphanage she was living in...guess how many children are there?" I frowned, " Hundred...thousands?" Why do we need to know about that rogue's orphanage? It makes no sense. " No. Only one. She, herself.", Daniel stated with a serious face. " And now there is no trace of it...no employee information. Nothing. That girl is like a ghost. All we know is she killed a lot of wolves before." He leaned lower as if telling me a dangerous secret. " She is a danger to our kind." I couldn't help but chuckle at his paranoia, " Now you are overreacting, Daniel." " I am not.", he pressed his lips together, glaring at me with his hawk-like gaze, " You should have seen those eyes...Every night I saw her hunting. First, I thought she is going to hurt anybody, but she just hunted deer in the woods..." Wait. " So, that's where you were going every night...stalking a teenage girl.", I mocked but he didn't understand it. " Yes, It was for pack safety." Ugh. I would have been happier if he said that he was stalking a girl. Daniel works too much he has no friends, no girlfriend. I doubt he even had s*x. All he does is worry. And it's all because of me. His wolf is not an Alpha, he is a Beta, a strong one though. But when I was gone for nineteen years... He couldn't take my place. Draven was too young to challenge Father. So Daniel couldn't help but suffer all those years when Father destroyed this pack in his madness. It made him like this. He thinks too much...but not for himself. It makes me sad. " You know, she can't turn into her wolf.", Daniel spoke up suddenly, dragging me out of my thoughts. " But even with a human body...she hunts better than our best hunters." I smiled, " You seem to admire her." " I do. But it didn't change the fact that she is a danger." Daniel is a giant stupid wolf. " She is just a kid. What worse she can do...", I groaned, picking up my file again. He is worried for no reason. And this pack is so big I am sure we aren't even going to encounter her that much. She will live between humans and we will live our life as it was before. " One crazy rogue can't do any harm." " Yes, She can. She wound one of our pack members because of our brother's jacket." What?! " Her wound is not healing.", Daniel added but that's not what I was concerned about. " What's Draven's jacket doing with that rogue?" Daniel gave me a tight smile, leaning over his chair now, after perfectly ruining my mood. " You should ask our foolish brother about that." That i***t. Draven is our kid brother. And he is basically an angel. He is the kind of person who can let a hungry man eat his head in the name of help. So, if that crazy rogue has Draven's jacket that means, Saint Draven has shown his kindness somewhere he shouldn't. She could have hurt him! As I said before Rogues are crazy. And my brother is a fool. Sometimes I doubt whether he is our father's son or not. But then I saw their identical blue eyes, so... I was just about to call him, or go and search for him myself but then the door opens and here he came...in his wolf form. Wiggling his golden tail he entered inside. Like a dog, he tilted his head watching me and Daniel's glaring gaze. He might have sensed something is wrong because in a blink he turned human. It's not that easy, turning into your human form is painful. Or maybe it's just for me as my wolf is almost dead now. Anyway, I focused on my shameless nacked brother as he grinned, showing us our baby blue eyes, " Hey! Guys.", he chimed. This voice can work on his girlfriend, not on us. A whiff of cold wind suddenly came from an open window behind us, making our scent fill in the air. But between all those familiar incenses, there was a wild one. I glared at my foolish brother. That rogue's scent is all over him. Don't tell me he had s*x with that crazy head. Why am I feeling this angry all of a sudden... " Have I done something wrong?", Draven muttered, looking between Daniel and me. I didn't reply to him and glanced at Daniel, " Invite that rogue to the packhouse." I had this sudden urge to meet her.
