Aria
The ringing of the alarm woke me up from my doze. I sat up from my laying position and looked outside the window. The sun has set up.
Well. Happy birthday to me, again!
Last night's small celebration my parents and Alpha Brian and Luna Olivia arranged went well. We hadn't invited many people to my small birthday celebration, and since I didn't have any friends it was even easier to cut it short. Although my parents took the liberty to invite a few of the girls and boys around my age, they mostly ignored me so did I?
The incident with Hunter a day ago still haunted my mind, I still tried to keep myself free from worry. After all, I might find my mate today! The excitement and nervousness both were there but I couldn't fathom why the feeling of something displeasing happening bugged me.
I shrugged and got up to freshen up. After I was getting ready, I headed downstairs.
"Oh, honey. You're awake," My mom exclaimed watching me walking down the stairs.
"That's a bit earlier than you usually wake up, what's the hurry huh?" Dad's voice rang from the kitchen, he was chopping the fruits whilst mom stood beside him occasionally stealing a few pieces from the bowl.
"There's no catch," I stretched my arms and walked over to the counter.
"Excited to meet someone?" Mom teasing voice brought the pink tint to my cheeks. They definitely knew the reason behind my sudden punctuality.
"Mom!" I exclaimed, the embarrassment covering my face, "Why did you say that?"
"Danica said what's true," Dad grinned, "You are eager to meet your mate and it's written all over your face."
"I just can't with you two," I shook my head trying to hide my blush behind my anger, and grabbed an apple from the bowl, "I'm going to school."
"But your breakfast...." Mom began.
"I'll get something from the canteen," I announced and headed for the door.
"Aria, take care of my future son-in-law," Dad chuckled.
"Dad!" I was beet red at this moment.
"Jonathan, stop it," Mom playfully slapped dad's shoulder before drowning in a fit of laughter.
"Wow! That helped too much mom," I rolled my eyes and walked out of the house.
"Goodbye sweetheart," I heard their voice in unison.
"Goodbye," I yelled back, this time the smile broke on my face. I couldn't be more grateful that I had these two people in my life.
As I made my way to the school the build of excitement and nervousness was continuously growing, inchmeal. The idea of finding my mate was very exciting and the reason for the nervousness was still unknown and as soon as I entered the school building I felt it evolving even more.
The butterflies fluttering in my stomach were also undeniable. I decided to maintain my usual routine that included grabbing my books from the locker and heading for the class. I didn't want to make an exception because if my mate would be near me I could easily track his smell.
I just couldn't wait to meet him! How he might look, what his hair color would be, what would be his eye color every question was putting me on the edge but at the same time, I found myself feeling missing something. I just didn't know why there was a feeling of disappointment.
It was just indescribable.
Suddenly all my bustling thoughts were put to an end as I was walking closer to the hall. The sudden pulsating of my heart and the increase of the rhythm of my heartbeats along with the heavenly scent floating into my nostrils caused my body to get stilled.
My brows rose in surprise and my eyes closed for a second before they opened to trail their gaze toward the source of the scent who was supposedly standing a few feet away.
But then I saw the scene that instantly turned the warmth spreading inside my chest into a burning ache of fire. There stood my tormentor with his lips pressed against Ashley's and his fingers digging into her waist as he ravished her.
The sudden pain hit my chest, and now the felt suffocating. I took frequent steps backward as if I was losing my balance.
Tear blurred my vision within seconds to even notice Hunter's movements getting uncomfortable with each second passing by. It was even less than three seconds since I stood there and watched their heated kiss when Hunter harshly pushed Ashley away from his body.
He closed his eyes taking a deep inhale and slowly his gaze followed to spot me. His eyes widen in surprise as he realized what had just happened.
He was my mate. The same person who loathed me and left no limits to hurt me. The same person who turned my life hell. The same person who made me cry every day.
My once best friend. My bully. And....my mate.
The tears now streamed down my face. My hands trembled and the chills were sent down my entire body.
This was a curse! It had to be a curse!
I clamped my lips shut to stop any sobs that might get out.
Ashley's eyes stared between me and Hunter, she looked confused as if she didn't expect Hunter to look at me in the way he was looking at me right now.
His dark eyes were covered in guilt.
No! It has to be disgust. He was a monster who had no guilt or shame left inside him.
He opened his mouth to say something but nothing came out, he stared at my tear-stained face without a word. His expression turned more evident as the seconds were floating away.
He looked hesitant but he attempted to take a few steps toward me and that was it. I wiped my tears and ran out of the place. Desperate and fast, I ran in my home's direction.
The tears never stopped, even if I tried several times. The painful feeling is even more painful as the flashes of our good memories are overshadowed by the dark ones played in front of my eyes like a movie.
I couldn't calm myself down. I couldn't breathe. It was as if all the weight around the world has been put on my chest.
I opened the door of the house and dashed inside.
Mom and dad's worried gazes fall only on my face.
"Honey, what's wrong?" Mom tried to reach out to me but I backed away.
I couldn't tell them. I couldn't tell them the truth. I wasn't ready to even speak a word about it. And what could I even say? I saw my mate kissing another girl? And my mate is supposedly my bully and former best friend?
"Aria, why are you crying sweetheart?" Dad's expression laced in concern came in my view blurred with unshed tears.
"I-I can't talk right now," I breathed out, stopping the sob that tried to come out, "Please leave me alone for a few hours," And I ran into my room avoiding mom and dad's voice calling my name to stop me.
I faced a nightmare today. A nightmare I would never forget.
