As we (Jayden and I ) began to discuss our next steps on how we'd resolve the whole issue, a knock on the door interrupted us. One of Jayden's most trusted guards entered, his face grave.
"Your Highness, we have received word that Evan has escaped custody. He is heading back to the city."
Immediately Jayden's expression hardened. "We need to find him before he causes any more trouble. He could jeopardize everything."
I felt a surge of worry for Evan, despite our recent conflict. "Jayden, please don't hurt him. He’s only trying to protect me."
Jayden sighed, nodding reluctantly. "He needs to understand the gravity of the situation."
