   Maria and I stood side by side, applying makeup in front of her dresser mirror. Rachel walked in and smiled at us.         “Aw, I feel like a proud mom whose daughter is getting ready for the prom,” she placed a hand over her heart. She looked at me. “Now you have her back by midnight and no later.”         “Hell no,” I said. “We are keeping the party going all night long.” I bumped Maria’s hip with mine.         Maria snorted. “Uh huh, Miss In-Bed-By-Nine.”         “That was one time after a really long day!”         I finished putting mascara on and stepped back to get a better look of myself.
