Jayce shakes the guys hand, and they get into the circle. Even if that creep could win, I would never let him touch me.
“Rio he won’t touch me right.”
“Gwen he might not even live past this.”
They start the fight, and the guy goes in slow, missing his first shot at Jayce.
Jayce doesn’t hold back this time. He swings back at the creep, making contact with his fist to the guys face. The guy goes flying out of the circle, landing bloody on the ground.
Jayce doesn’t bend down and shake his hand like the last guy. Instead, he lifts him up to look at me. I hold Rio’s arm tight.
“You see that woman? She is mine! Mine! Don’t you even look at her again.” He roars sending people into fear.
He drops the guy and punches him across the face a couple more times.
Rio whispers to me “He defended your honor girl. Go give him some love.”
She gives me a push forward, and I take a few shaky steps towards Jayce. He lets go of the man and looks up at me. All eyes are on us, and I feel nervous.
“Jayce.. Thank you.” He walks over and hugs me.
“Mine!” He tells me.
“Yes, I am yours.” I know it’s part of the possessiveness werewolves have that has driven him this way. I need him to know that no one else stands a chance. As much as that guy is disgusting, I don’t want to be a part of his death after only being here a couple of days.
He kisses me, and I kiss him back. I try not to hold back despite having a crowd watching us. I can hear a few of the women huffing and talking. Some of the men are cheering us on.
We pull back from each other, but he never fully lets me go. He looks around like he just broke out of a trance of some kind.
“Get that moron to the clinic” he orders.
A couple of guys scoop him off the ground and carry him away.
“I am sorry about that. I swear there are lots of good people here.”
“I believe you.”
“How about we get out of here? There is something I need to show you.”
He started walking us across the field to another training spot when that girl cut us off.
“Hey Jayce, are you taking her to be trained. I can want to be the first to spar with her.”
He pulls me back, keeping his arm in front of me.
“Don’t lay a finger on her, or I will break it off, Jessica!”
“You would break my finger over some play thing?”
“She’s my mate and will be your Luna.”
She let out an exaggerated huff.
“You haven’t even marked her Jayce. It’s not going to work out, and you will be running back to me.”
I push Jayce’s arm down and get in front of him.
“Look, I have already dealt with enough drama for a lifetime. How about we settle this like adults.”
“How do you propose we do that!” She says in an angry tone.
“Do you respect and love Jayce enough to accept his choices.”
“Of course I do. I care about him far more than you could understand.”
“Alright Jayce, I am stepping aside. If you want to be with her, I would rather you tell me now.”
She gets a big smile on her face, waiting for his response. My heart feels heavy, and all I can do is try to slap on my poker face.
“I want you, Gwen. I am sorry, Jessica.”
“What if something happens between us and I am gone will you want her then?” I ask Jayce.
“Sorry no, I am not in love with you, Jessica, and I can’t change that.”
She gets tears in her eyes and runs off. I feel awful for her. I hope she decides to respect him and herself by moving on now. I don’t need any more jealous brats in my future.
“I am sorry I did that, Jayce, but I needed to end that before it became a problem.”
“I should thank you. That was the closest I have gotten to getting through to her. We dated when he were teenagers, but we split when we found out we weren’t mates. It’s like something snapped with her, and she hasn’t let the break up go.”
He starts leading me farther down the path until we see kids and teens practicing fighting moves with instructors.
“See that girl over there?” He points to a girl probably only a few years younger than me.
“Yes, she looks like she is giving that instructor a run for his money.” I watch as she practices getting out of different holds incredibly fast and smoothly.
“Her parents were killed by rogues when she was 12. She hid in the closet the entire time it was happening. Now, she is training with the goal of being our top warrior. What would you tell her if she approached you with her story?”
“I would tell her that she is brave and strong. She did the right thing since she couldn’t have fought harder than her parents did at the time. I bet they would be so proud of what she has become.”
“Maybe you should take those words to heart and forgive yourself.”
He’s right, I was even younger than that girl. If that was my Alpha, I couldn’t have fought him. Just for running, my parents would have been killed if the rumors about him are true. I did what I could do at the time.
“Your right, Jayce. I need to forgive myself.”
“Good!”
“Wait did you just trick me again?”
“ Not exactly. The story I told you is true. I just thought you could use some perspective, is all.”
“Well thank you. I really could use some breakfast now if that is possible.”
“Sure thing, baby girl. Hop on my back.”
I jump on his back, and we make it to the public kitchen for some food. I hope he still does that for me even after I shift.
We grabbed some food that the cooks were making up. Of course I get some pancakes with fruit. Our time in the dining room is much more pleasant than last time.
“Hey can I join you two?” Rio asks.
“Please do!” I tell her.
“So are we going dancing tonight?”
“I haven’t asked her yet, Rio.”
“Dancing?” I ask, feeling unsure about it already.
“Yeah, at a club like a pre-party for you.”
“Wow, you all really take birthdays seriously around here.”
“Nope, we don’t even celebrate ours anymore. We just want to make up for all the bad ones you have had.” Rio tells me.
“Did you want to go, baby? It’s not a big deal if it’s too much for you.”
I actually do kind of want to go.
“It sounds like fun we should go.”
“Yess! I can dress you all slutty and we can dance the night away with our men.”
“Can I invite Lily and her mate?”
“You can invite who ever you want. It’s your party.”
We eat happily for the next few minutes when we get interrupted by Jessica.
