STARLETTE
“Never in your miserable life should you ever lay hands on my girl again.” He warned. My already broken heart shattered even further into irredeemable pieces. “That’s if you don’t want to get your filthy hands cut off. They have no use anyway.”
I stiffened without uttering a word, because it was of no use. No matter how much I tried to defend myself, he’d never believe me over her, and that reality hurt more than it should.
Tears threatened to spill out of my eyes, but before they could come rushing out, I sprinted out of the kitchen. I wasn’t going to entertain them with my misery.
I ran to my bedroom, which I hated to go to because it was also his, but it was the only place I could find privacy.
Once alone in the room, I couldn’t control the tears that came rushing out. Every second, every minute, and every hour that I had spent in this pack had been nothing but torture. My heart was hurting so badly that I thought I was having a heart attack. One minute he was buying me nice stuff, and the next minute he was threatening me. I couldn’t understand why he kept treating me that way, making me think he cared about me, only to crush me all over again.
Iris was in even more pain than I was, and I wanted it to stop. I needed it to stop. Leaving the pack was the only way to end everything once and for all, and I was determined to.
The door creaked open, and Bella walked through it with worries saturating her features. She was holding a tray bearing the sandwich and coffee I was supposed to eat for breakfast before that witch destroyed my morning.
Sighting her, an idea struck me, and I quickly picked myself up and hurried towards her, looking at her with hopeful eyes.
"Bella, please, I want to ask for a favor. Please promise me you’d help me.” I pleaded.
“What do you want me to do for you? How can I help you?” She asked, concerned, as she held my hands in hers.
“I need to leave here. Please help me.” I pleaded, my voice thick with desperacy as tears continued streaming out of my eyes. I couldn’t escape without her help. I desperately needed her.
To my dismay, she quickly jerked her hands away from mine, shaking her head vigorously in disapproval.
Oh, no.
“Bella please.“ I pleaded, hoping she’d change her mind. I couldn’t continue living that way.
“No. I can’t. I’m sorry. The Alpha King would kill me if he caught you. And believe me, he would catch you.” Her words went straight to my heart, adding to the wounds already embedded in it.
I swallowed the lump in my throat.
“Okay.” I said. And like magic, the tears streaming down my eyes suddenly stopped. Not because I gave up.
Giving up was not even an option. I’d have to find a way to escape by myself. I was determined more than ever, and I would try with everything that made up my entire being to ensure my escape from the hell hole I was trapped in.
“I brought your sandwich and coffee.” She sighed, gesturing towards the tray of coffee and sandwich she had placed on the coffee table when she came in. “You’ve cried enough. You should eat to regain your energy.”
I nodded in agreement as I sat on the sofa by the coffee table and began to slowly chew on my food, forcing it down my throat. She even offered to feed me, but I refused. I needed to act as naturally as possible to avoid suspicion from her. She wasn’t going to help me, and I wouldn’t have her ruin my plans either.
After I was done eating, she suggested that she take me on a tour around the pack to ease my pain and lighten my mood. I obliged without hesitation because I needed it after all. I needed to study every nook and cranny of the pack in order to facilitate my escape.
“Is there an impending war? Why are they training so hard?“ I asked.
We had decided to stop and watch the soldiers training in the yard during our tour around the pack.
She chuckled softly. “No. This is how they train every day.”
“That’s… surprising.” I muttered as I stared at them with furrowed brows.
The training was too hard for it to be a daily routine. They all looked like they were in pain. Well, I shouldn’t expect anything less from the Alpha King’s pack. The pack was known to have the best soldiers in the entire northern kingdom.
Beta Kade suddenly appeared in front of us. A smile touched his lips as he jogged towards us, shirtless, with sweat trickling down his chest. Boy, was he hot? His torso was so ripped and sexy that I almost drooled at the sight.
“How’s your day going?“ He asked as he came to a stop in front of us. “Do you need anything?”
Of course, I needed something. I needed him to help me escape. But that was impossible.
“Fine.” I replied, masking the pain I was in with a smile. I glanced at Bella before continuing. “Bella is giving me a tour around the pack.”
“Nice. Have fun, then.” He nodded his head at Bella to acknowledge her presence before turning around and jogging back to the group of training soldiers.
His back view was equally as nice as his front view, as were all the soldiers training. They were incredibly hot, and I could watch them all day.
I noticed Bella nearly drooling as she stared at Kade, and I playfully nudged her, a smile tugging at my lips. “He’s hot, isn’t he?”
“Good morning, Alpha.” Bella suddenly said, cowering, with her gaze fixed in a particular direction.
Before I could turn to look at who she was referring to, a masculine form towered behind me, and I held my breath.
“Yes, baby. I’m hot.” A deep, mesmerising, husky voice filled my ears, and I furrowed my brows in confusion.
The voice sounded just like Maximus's, but I was damn sure he wasn’t the one.
What the hell was he?
