Jill
“Jilly Bean!” Tiffany squealed when she saw me come into our house.
It was a moving day. We arranged that all the sisters moving into the sorority would be here today. Time to start our senior year of college.
“Tif, you look different? Don’t tell me you did it!” I asked her.
Tiffany kept saying she would get a nose job over the summer. We thought she was joking, but I don’t think she was.
“I told you, I got rid of daddy’s bump, now I look so much better and prettier. Eat that Eric Sanders.” Tiffany said
“Wait, you got a nose job because of Eric?” I asked her.
Eric Sanders was one the stars of the Football team and lived 4 houses down from us. However, I have known Eric since Kindergarten.
We grew up together in the same town, and went to the same schools. If I’m telling the truth, I always had this little crush on him, but I knew we would never be an item.
Why? Well for one, I’m not his type. Eric likes girls who are Latino. I am not Latino. He loves that Latino ass. I do have an ass, but it’s wide and not the Latino type.
“Let’s just say Eric inspired me to get it. After booking up with him at Spring fling last year, he said that the bump in my nose really took away from my features. So that got me thinking.” Tiffany said.
I love my sorority, but there are a few girls in it that like Tiffany, looks are the priority.
“Tiffany, you shouldn’t let what Eric said affect you like that. But it is great work. I do like your new nose.” I told her.
“Are you all moved in?” Tiffany asked me, changing the subject.
“Yep, just did a cruise down Greek row with some of the other girls.” I told her.
“This is going to be such a fun year, Jilly bean!” Tiffany squealed again while bringing me in for a hug.
After chatting with a few more of my house mates, I went outside to the back yard. We had a nice inground pool back there, already I saw a few girls lounging in bathing suits by the pool.
“Hey Jill, we were thinking of having a few people over. A pre school get together. What do you think?” Shawna, our President of the sorority asked me.
“I think it is a great idea. I saw a few of the football guys are here already.” I told her.
“Eric and Liam?” Shawna asked.
“I saw Eric and Mikey, not Liam.” I told her.
“Oh, Mickey will do. Liam is so dreamy. There is a reason they call him The Badass, you know. I can assure you, the rumors are true!” Shawna laughed.
“Eric and Mickey are just as good as The Badass. Those guys must have taken a class or something.” Megan added.
She was the other girl tanning out by the pool next to Shawna.
“Gives a new meaning to team building exercises! It must be part of their practice, how to please a woman.” Shawna laughed.
“You want me to go down to the football house and invite them over?” I asked the girls.
“You are the only one that’s actually friends with Eric. I still can’t believe you never slept with him, ever.” Shawna said.
“I have told you, he is just a friend. I have known Eric so long, honestly I think of him like a big brother. Plus, I’m not his type.” I told them.
“Honey, half the girls here are not his type, didn’t stop him from a quick roll.” Shawna said to me.
“Well, I hate for something to happen and ruin the friendship. I go down and ask them if they want to come up for a BBQ and swim. How about that?” I asked her.
“Perfect!” Shawna said.
I walked out the back gate and down towards the football house. I saw some Deltas were moving into their house.
Our house was next to our rival sorority, the Deltas. They are the number one sorority, we are the number two sorority to join. The only reason they are number one is because of their reputation.
They are known as the easy sleazy d’s. I think you had to short with 5 guys in a year as a pre requirement to even join that sorority. They definitely have a reputation.
There are a few in there that I am friends with. Overall they are nice. There are only one or two I don’t like at all. Let’s just say they really take the easy sleazy reputation seriously, and that’s mainly why I don’t like them.
Cassie, the Delta President, is a good friend of mine. We met freshman year when she was my neighbor on my dorm floor. That was a joke between us, we were always neighbors. First in the firms and now at the sorority houses.
Next house I passed was what we call the old lady house. For years a little old lady lived in the house. It is the only house not associated with the college on this street.
The old lady actually loved her college neighbors. The football guys next to her over the years took care of her lawn and snow removal for her. The Deltas would come over to help her bake.
Supposedly she missed the kids in the summer, she was like a grandma to all of us college kids. When she got really sick and older, her family decided to put her in a nursing home. Then they rented the house out to the college kids.
I know Olivia that lives there. We had a few classes together. She is a nice girl. Mainly why I know Olivia is because of her housemate, Piper.
Piper is a wannabe sorority girl. Heavy partier, who would do anything to get into either the Kappas or the Deltas. More than once, I have had to knock on Olivia’s door to tell her Piper has passed out at our house.
Now I am up to the football house. This house is legendary on this street. Not only does it house 5 of the football players, but the parties they throw is what college dreams are made of.
I walked up to the porch and went into the house. Everyone knows, this house is always open, you never use the doorbell. They welcome everyone to just come in.
I spotted Eric right away. He was playing with the TV in the living room.
“Hey Eric.” I called over to him.
Eric turned his head away from the TV to look at me.
“Jill, hey how are you.” He asked.
“I’m good. Just got into the house today.” I told him.
“Same, if I knew you were moving in today, we could have car pooled.” Eric laughed.
“Well, busy summer back home, Tammy got married you know.” I told him.
Tammy is my older sister. Actually at one time, Tammy dated Eric’s older brother before he passed away.
“I heard, I’m glad she is happy. Congratulations by the way.” Eric said.
Eric’s brother George was killed in a car accident years ago. Him and Tammy were going together at the time. They got into a huge fight over something and George took off in his car. He must have changed his mind or something,
He did a U-Turn at the red light to go back to my sister. He never saw the truck that hit him. He died on impact, is what they had said.
I know Eric’s family was invited to the wedding, only Eric didn’t come for it.
“It was a nice wedding. I hope she has a good marriage.” I told Eric.
“I do too.” Eric said. I noticed his eyes got a bit glassy. I think he was thinking of George. Everyone thought he and Tammy would marry one day.
“So, I’m here to invite you over for some BBQ and swimming over at our house. Care to come over?” I asked him.
“Mikey and Big John are here. I will let them know.” Eric said, looking at the TV again.
“What are you trying to do?” I asked him.
“The signal is fuzzy, trying to get the cable to be clear.” He said.
“Let me look.” I said, stepping in front of him.
Eric stepped back and let me look at the wires.
“Got needle nose pliers?” I asked him.
Eric handed me the pliers and I clamped down on a thread around the connection. The screen got much clearer suddenly.
“How did you know to do that Jilly bean?” Eric asked me.
“Working summers as a receptionist at the cable company, I picked a few things up.” I laughed.
“I didn’t know you worked at the cable company.” Eric said.
“Yeah, for two summers. You know not all of us are big football stars, Eric Bear.” I laughed.
“Ugh, no one has called me that since freshman year in high school.” He laughed.
“Lina Santiago.” I smiled at him.
“You remembered her name? I don’t know what I was thinking of going out with that girl.” Eric laughed.
“Hey, can’t help who you are attracted to right. You like those Latinos.” I laughed.
“Yeah, I do. Heart wants what the heart wants, right.” He laughed.
“Yeah, it does. I’m, so yeah come over and cool off at our place. Tell Mikey and Big John.” I said to him.
I left the house. Sometimes I get a little ping of hurt with Eric. It’s because I know he never looks at me as someone other than a friend. Plus, it sucks too that I’m not the type he is attracted to.
