Looking at Baby Shane's determined expression, Vanessa couldn't help but frown. She was speechless at this little boy's public display of affection.
Vanessa glanced fearfully at the small head still sleeping on Xander's right, hoping that Little Walter wouldn't wake up as well. If that little troublemaker woke up, it would inevitably result in a disaster for her...
The food they ordered finally arrived, but because Baby Shane's small hand was holding onto Vanessa's hand tightly, Xander had to serve them the dishes. When everything was finally settled, the three of them looked at the only sleeping head on their table.
"Should we wake him up?" Vanessa finally asked.
"We shouldn't wake him."
Xander wanted to eat peacefully, so he didn't want to wake him up.
Vanessa slightly looked troubled. "But he's probably hungry..."
Baby Shane shook his head vehemently, his small face looking apprehensive.
No, no, no! Walter must not wake up. He'll definitely steal his Wifey! Thinking of that, the little boy gripped her hand even more tightly.
Glancing at the two brothers who would willingly abandon their own flesh and blood, Vanessa decided that this type of filial betrayal was against her morals. She reached out and gently shook the shoulders of the other little boy, successfully waking him up.
Little Walter yawned and blinked his eyes open, looking up at the face smiling in front of him. His eyes immediately widened.
Wifey!
Staring up at Vanessa, Walter looked like a thunderbolt had struck him. He carefully raised his hand and poked his soft little finger on her left cheek.
Not a dream!
Wifey's here!
He instantly held out his small arms to her, his little face looking expectant.
Wifey, hug! Hug me!
Shane shot his twin brother a glare, and buried his face deeper into Vanessa's embrace.
No, Wifey is mine!
Walter finally saw his twin brother hugging Vanessa like a koala, and his expression darkened. All of a sudden, his four-year-old body emanated an aura of dangerous hostility...
But the instant Vanessa looked at him again, she was only met with a pair of pitiful eyes. Walter stared sorrowfully at her like he was a pet being abandoned by his heartless owner.
Vanessa could only sigh, "Alright, come here then."
Shane froze, and Xander looked down at Walter with an unreadable expression as well.
There it was, the legendary one-second face change of this little devil!
Only in front of Vanessa would this little devil look completely harmless...
With both two little boys on either side of her, the four of them finally started to eat. Since it had been a long time since they last met, Vanessa started reminiscing about their time at the university.
"You're engaged?" While passing Vanessa a tissue, Xander suddenly asked her this question.
Walter and Shane stiffened, looking up at Vanessa suspiciously. Wifey, did you cheat?
Vanessa was a bit taken aback, but then slowly nodded. "Yes...but I think we're going to break up soon."
Xander paused while eating, and looked at her. "Why?"
Vanessa shrugged. "I don't think we're meant for each other."
After a moment, she added, "Let's stop talking about this, okay?"
Xander looked down. Something flashed in his eyes, so quickly that Vanessa didn't notice.
"Mmm."
She felt relieved. As much as Kiran had hurt her in her past life, there was a small part of her that still didn't want to let go. Although she knew that she was doing the right thing by breaking the engagement, knowing that Kiran loved Riana more than he would ever love her... she still hoped that he at least felt something for her.
But he still treated her like she was nothing but an outlet for his lust. Her hand involuntarily clenched, making Baby Shane glance up at her curiously.
"Wifey?"
Vanessa sighed, forcing a smile. "I'm alright. Let's just continue eating."
Shane nodded and looked relieved, but Walter's eyes narrowed.
Somehow, he felt that someone was being mean to his Wifey...
Because he was greatly worried, Walter let go of her hand and picked up his spoon.
He then tugged at her sleeve to get her attention.
"Yes, what is it?" Then Vanessa realized what the little boy was trying to do.
"Open," Walter said, his four year-old voice commanding.
Vanessa felt embarrassed but opened her mouth obediently. Then Walter carefully fed her a piece of beef with rice, his small face looking serious.
Wifey, don't be sad anymore okay?
"Mm, delicious." Vanessa smiled with a contented look on her face and gently ruffled Walter's hair. "Thank you."
Then she caught sight of Shane's displeased face and laughed a little.
Vanessa also ruffled his hair.
"Alright, I'll let you feed me too."
After being fed alternatively by the two little boys, she immediately felt so full, that she stopped eating. Returning the favor, she began feeding the twins while she drank her tea.
Although it was still in the middle of the day, there were already many people inside the restaurant. This particular place had always been a popular hang-out place for students because it was near to several universities.
Xander and Vanessa used to come here a lot back when they were still studying at the university since the food was tasty and cheap.
"I heard you've been dating Barbara Smith?" Vanessa teased Xander.
It was no secret that ever since high school, Barbara had a big crush on Xander. It even caused her to hate Vanessa for most of their time in the university, because the two of them were always together. It was only when Vanessa announced to their school chat group a few months ago that she was engaged did Barbara finally changed her attitude towards her.
Shortly after her announcement, she received a personal message from Barbara that she was finally dating Xander.
Because Vanessa was too busy chasing Kiran in her past life, she never managed to ask Xander about it. It was only now that she had the chance to ask him.
"We broke up," Xander said calmly.
"Huh?" Vanessa was so surprised. Aren't they just going out? What happened?!
With Barbara's obvious devotion to Xander, she half-thought they would have been married by now. After all, Xander was too lazy to even think of something as complicated as breaking off a relationship.
Suspicious, she asked, "Did Barbara break up with you?"
After all, it was the only solution she could think of. If Barbara got tired of Xander and broke up with him, Vanessa could almost imagine his short one-word reply: "Yeah."
But she was surprised by his answer.. "No. I broke up with her."
What?
How could this be?! This sleepy, lazy and lackadaisical bastard had actually found the energy to break up with a woman?
It was too unbelievable!
"Why?" What kind of unforgivable sin did Barbara commit to for Xander to do such an effortful act?
As Vanessa watched him, Xander's face slowly darkened.
Then, he spat out one word that shocked her to the core, "Sex."
Vanessa blinked.
S-s*x?
Maybe she heard him wrong?
But it slowly began to dawn on her that maybe she had heard him right after all. Although breaking up was an energy-consuming act, what was even more energy-consuming was...
She couldn't help but blush.
Gosh, this guy! One had to be amazed at the lengths he would go to preserve his energy!
