Thankfully, they didn't have to wait too long for Riana.
Kiran had barely taken a step to walked to Riana's direction when a slender girl suddenly threw herself at him, squealing his name.
Her hair was artfully styled, and she was wearing expensive clothing. Although a pair of sunglasses hid her eyes, her red lips were curved in a smile.
"Kiran, I missed you so much!"
For the first time since she had met him, Vanessa saw Kiran's emotionless façade c***k as his lips quirked into what seemed to be a small smile.
His arm patted the girl's back, seeming as happy as she was.
Although Vanessa already accepted that Kiran's heart would never be hers, her heart ached when he saw their happy reunion.
It also reminded her by the fact that it was this woman who had caused her death in her former life, so she had to struggle to keep the smile fixed in her face.
"You look as handsome as ever!" Riana teased.
Then Riana finally noticed Vanessa, who was standing behind him. "And who's this? Your new assistant?"
Vanessa suppressed her emotions and took a step forward, greeting Riana with a humble smile.
"Hello. I'm Vanessa Ford, Kiran's fiancée."
Vanessa was observing Riana's expression very closely, so this time she didn't miss the flash of hatred in the other woman's eyes.
"A fiancée?" Riana glanced at Kiran, the smile on her lips gone. "What's this? Your idea of a joke?"
Kiran looked at Vanessa, his eyes unreadable.
"It's not a joke. Vanessa is indeed my fiancée."
Riana laughed, but it sounded so fake to Vanessa's ears. Of course, it really was fake. There's no way she'll be happy, knowing the man she's secretly pining is actually going to marry another woman.
"Wow. It seems you're getting married before me. I see that your fiancé is really beautiful."
Vanessa knew what to do, and laughed with her. "You're flattering me. You're more beautiful than I am, Miss Riana."
The two girls smiled at each other, both with swords drawn and bows bent.
After chatting a bit more and picking up Riana's luggage, they went to the car where the driver was waiting patiently for them.
Vanessa immediately went on the front and sat on the passenger seat. In her previous life, she had chosen to sit with Kiran in the backseat and had to be subtly reminded by Riana that the two of them had a lot of catching up to do. Even Kiran had gazed at her in disapproval, and Vanessa had to transfer herself to the passenger seat in embarrassment.
So to avoid a blow to her dignity, Vanessa immediately chose to let Riana have the backseat. This action hadn't gone unnoticed by Kiran, however, who gazed at the woman in the passenger seat with an unreadable expression.
Meanwhile, Riana secretly sneered in her heart. At least this woman knew her position!
Riana chatted with Kiran for the whole ride, but he seemed to be unresponsive and was gazing at the window with a stony look. Then he would glanced at the girl in the passenger seat from time to time, seeming to get more and more displeased each time he saw Vanessa there with an unconcerned look in her face as she played with her phone. She didn't seem to be paying attention to them, only looking up once in a while to check if they had arrived yet.
Because they hadn't eaten breakfast before they left, Kiran told the driver to bring them to an upper class restaurant, a private place where you had to reserve ahead for three months just to get a table.
But since Kiran was there, they were quickly seated with no problems.
But unfortunately, Vanessa had no appetite. With the two people who made her past life so miserable in front of her, how could she stomach eating?
"I'll have the sirloin steak, crab crepes, and grilled vegetables," Riana said without batting an eye, and Vanessa nearly puked blood when she saw that what she had ordered was almost worth $1500!
Kiran ordered next, and since he had a big appetite, what he ordered was almost twice as expensive as Riana's. Then Kiran expectantly looked at Vanessa, who was getting a stomachache from the thought of spending so much money just to eat a meal.
Although Kiran had indeed spoiled her in the beginning of their relationship, Vanessa was already used of being poor in their years of marriage. Her appetite completely gone, she placed the menu back on the table.
"I'm not hungry," she said to the man who was nearly turning her into an ice sculpture with his intense gaze.
Kiran's eye twitched.
Not hungry? How could she not be hungry? They hadn't had the chance to eat breakfast since he woke her up early in the morning to pick up Riana. It's already way past noon, and she's still not hungry!
Is there something wrong with her?!
First she refused his touch, and now she couldn't even stomach eating in front of him?
"I'll order for you," he said, his voice extremely cold.
Kiran then picked up his menu again, and rattled off a lot of dishes that was more than his and Riana's combined.
Vanessa's pouty lips popped open in surprise. Was he trying to kill by her by making her eat too much? How could she possibly finish all of those food!
As soon as the waiter left, Riana hogged Kiran's attention again by talking about her adventures abroad. Vanessa felt bored, and decided to check her phone if there was anyone she could speak to.
Her finger hovered on a name that was online.
Xander Anderson...
She remembered that their interaction had stopped after she graduated out of college, even in her past life.
She had been so blindly in love with Kiran so much that she had forgotten there was another important person in her life.
Vanessa smiled, and sent him a short message.
'Hello,' she typed. 'Xander, do you still remember me?'
