My courage failed me at the tightest part of the rock passage as the impenetrable cold stone crowded in on me outside and images of what Kai would do to me pressed in on me inside. Their crushing weight had my breath sawing in and out of my lungs, wedging me tighter and tighter into the rock seam, pressing closer still and forcing the air from my lungs.
A strong skeletal hand gripped my upper arm and yanked me out the rest of the way, my cheek scraping painfully across the rough surface and smacking the back of my head against the wall behind me.
