The lift doors opened, and my heart pounded irregularly in my chest. I wanted to stay plastered to the back of the lift, but the only way out was back up to Kai. Should I choose the unknown monsters or the known one? I needed to get to Char. I shoved myself off the back of the lift, passing through an invisible barrier of energy as I stepped out. It tingled through my body in a wave as I stepped onto the rocky ground. If Kai was behind it, it was nothing good.
The landscape looked different down here. Everything appeared super-sized, huge hulking towers of rock, rough, uneven ground and a smell of burning which met my nostrils.
