Return from the defense

Ethan POV: I had been sent out with Isaac and a few of our gammas to take care of a rogue problem just outside our territory. Today was Selena's birthday and as much as my wolf scratched at me to get back and see her, I couldn't unsee her naked in his bed. The room reeked of s*x and remembering all of this just caused my heart to pang and nausea to bubble up like a bad case of acid reflux. I tried to push it away. The gammas were talking as we headed back about the party today and Isaac was silent through it all. There was no mention of me or Selena, the guys were just excited to feast and get drunk. I couldn't blame them. The whispers of rogue attacks in the last week were crazy and that meant extra patrols and vigilance. They were tired. So was I. My mind trailed back to Selena. Things weren't looking good for us. My parents were now vehemently against this match on account of... Well, how would my mother put it... Selena being a slut. My heart panged again. Every single time that I thought about her, all I could imagine is Raze all over her. I remembered their kiss and then I started overthinking and imagining what they looked like during s*x. I don't know why Raze was still on the pack property and apparently my parents didn't know either. There was that feeling again, it was like acid reflux and it was killing me. I reached into my back pack and pulled out the little orange bottle that our new doctor had given me for the heart sickness, I took out two white pills and popped them in my mouth, forcing them down. The bitterness was extreme and if I wasn't going to throw up before, I was definitely going to throw up now! I felt a tug on my arm and when I turned my head, Isaac was holding out a can of cola. I took it, smiling weakly. We continued to walk in silence as the gamma's chatter also seemed to die down. I opened the can of cola and chugged. It did help to wash away the bitterness but the after taste of the bitterness and the gassy cola drink was not worth it either but it was more bearable than the original taste. A sort of numbness started to take over and I started to feel at peace. I would have to face Selena eventually. Tonight, we would be seated together. I would be with her when she gets her wolf. I did promise her that much. "Penny for your thoughts?" Asked Isaac and I felt myself jump a little as his voice intruded the tirade of thoughts I had going on. "I'm just thinking about Selena," I said. He looked pensive, "if it's about yesterday, I still think you should talk to her." Isaac was defending Selena. Why? Was he sleeping with her too!? The pills had me on a whole other level. I couldn't seem to get worked up and jealous. "Why are you defending her?" I asked and he looked uncomfortable, "let's just say that I saw the error of my ways and I want to be different." I furrowed my eye brows. He was making no sense. "I don't know if I can even look at her." Isaac looked pensive again, "I just think that it would be better to get some answers from her, it just seems like there are too many people surrounding you two and too many people involved." His words were making my head spin. I had another gulp of cola. "I don't understand," I said, pausing briefly as the other guys continued walking, Isaac sighed and waited for us to be out of ear shot, "Ethan, look... Something isn't right. No offense but how does the Alpha and Luna not have a clue about the demon on their land? Selena was supposed to be with your mum right? So how did she end up in Raze's old room and furthermore, Alice has been too happy chappy about you man!" I stood there, silently as I took in Isaac's perspective and a lot of what he was saying made sense. I needed to speak to Selena. We continued our walk back to the pack in silence. I might need to also keep an eye on Alice, Isaac is right. Alice has been trying to get close to me more and more now. "Isaac," he turned his head to look at me, "can you do a bit of investigating for me?" I asked and he looked at me and smiled, before he patted my shoulder affectionately, "yes, I will." I smiled at him and nodded, "what changed man?" I asked and he let out a deep sigh. "I found my mate." My ears perked up instantly and a huge grin spread across my face as I slapped him across the back, "congratula-" Before I could finish, I noticed the look on his face, "what happened?" I asked and he shook his head. "She was one of the new omegas brought in and at first she was shy and I was trying to figure out how to speak to her but then I think she heard about the pack's tradition... Well, I know she did because that was one of the reasons she gave me when she rejected me." I felt the guilt crawl over me like a thousand spiders. This pack needed a change.
