Selena POV:
I could feel myself lulling back to consciousness as the darkness became less and less dark. "What was that beating?" I croaked out, "it's just some machines, monitoring your vitals." I knew that voice. It was Ethan but what was he doing here? "Ethan?" I asked as my eyes adjusted to the bright room. He cleared his throat awkwardly, "how long have I been out?" I asked as I pushed myself up and immediately he reached for me, helping me and placing a pillow behind my back for support. "It's been a week." I looked up at him, shocked. "A week!" I started to move my legs to make it out of the bed, my hands had gone to ripping out my IVs. A week of no work would mean a week of no food. Luckily, I was unconscious through it but it meant that I would have to work twice as hard to get my meal tickets back. "Selena!" Scolded Ethan as he placed his hands on mine, stopping me from pulling out the IV, "relax, won't you?" I looked up at him oddly, his hands on mine felt weird and again, I had the flutters. I looked away as I felt my cheeks warm at the closeness. I cleared my throat, "please, tell me what is going on." I was staring at my finger nails, that I felt the need to chew on right now but I couldn't bring myself to in front of Ethan. "Well," he chuckled awkwardly as he moved his hand off mine and immediately, mine felt colder without it, "Isaac took the law into his own hands and whipped you. This was all a misunderstanding that has been dealt with so don't worry too much." I nodded my head slowly, trying to process what he was saying, "would you like something to eat?" He asked and I wasn't sure if he was tricking me again, "why?" I looked at him in his beautiful hazel eyes as I asked this, "because you've been unconscious for a week," his eyes didn't leave mine and I was the first to look away. I wasn't made for such intensity or talking to people. "I don't have anymore meal tickets," I comment as I pick at the corner of my nails. "Meal tickets?" He asked as he c****d an eye brow and I looked at him quizzically, "yes! Meal tickets! You know, the omegas pay cheque." He nods as if he finally gets it. "Oh yes! Ro agreed to keep yours for you since it was not your fault that you couldn't make it to work," he flicked dust of my blanket and my heart started to race because his hand even if it was brief rested on my thigh. "Are you being honest with me?" I asked not believing him. Ro never kept omega meal tickets. No work. No food. That was were the rules so why would it change for me? "I am being honest with you." His words were strange and he didn't look at me as he responded, instantly I was suspicious. "Okay." I was not giving up, I was going to find out the reason behind this. Then another omega walked in and placed a tray in front of him before leaving, it was lentil soup and bread. I could smell the deliciousness to the point that I could taste the peas in my mouth. In that moment, my stomach chose to betray me and growl. "Here, it's for you." He said as he smoothed down my blanket and placed the tray on my lap. He didn't have to tell me twice, I immediately started digging in. I ripped up the bread and dipped it in the soup, indeed it tasted like heaven. "Selena, I-" I interjected before he could make things weird with the awkward apology, "no need, I know and it's okay." His eyes went wide at that and he seemed so elated at my words, which only confused me because an apology never had this effect on me when I had to apologize, given it was a forced one but still. "So do you accept it?" He asked with hopeful eyes, "yeah, like it wasn't you who whipped me so you don't need to apologize." His face went white at my words, "what?" I asked and he shook his head as he averted his gaze, "nothing, you're right. I shouldn't of apologized." For some reasons, his words were now flat and lifeless, nothing like two seconds before. "Have I upset you?" I asked as my piece of bread drowned in the soup, "no not at all!" He exclaimed but I had that nagging feeling again, the feeling that things didn't make sense. "Selena," he looked up at me again, but the hope in his eyes were now gone, "I have to go. I will come see you later." I nodded to him and he turned and left. Well, that was the strangest interaction I have ever had but I mean, this probably doesn't count because most interactions that I have had have been more with people's shoes than body wearing it. I continued to eat my soup but I couldn't for the life of me shake the feeling that there was more to figure out about all of this.
