~~Drew’s PoV~~ Bree’s question about Carter sends a wave of guilt through me. I’ve been so focused on her that I forgot all about the mess we left behind for Carter to clean up, and that’s not like me at all. Carter always comes first. For the last three years, there hasn’t been a single decision I’ve made without considering how it will affect him, until now. As soon as I return to the truck, I call Carter on the secure line on my phone. It’s untraceable, and he’ll know immediately that it’s me. The king picks up on the second ring. “Hey, baby, what are you doing up? It’s late.” Carter’s greeting might sound strange to anyone else, but I know exactly what it means: he’s not free to talk. When there are other people around, he pretends he’s speaking to Quinn instead to throw people off
