Princess Amelia was the complete opposite of Kayla. She wasn’t a hard-cold warrior like her. Amelia was surrounded by a soft aura, filled with innocence. Her features soft, round and full. Long soft brown hair neatly pushed back on her head to accompany her diamond crown. Not a single scar visible on her smooth, pale skin.
Kayla was prepared to be taken away by guards from the kingdom but there was no sign of another presence besides Kayla and Amelia. She was a bit suspicious of the princess coming to her. Did she come here to threaten her or kill her?
"What do you know exactly?" Kayla asked sensing Amelia’s powers. She was a lot stronger than Rubeus and her father.
Princess Amelia stared at her with eyes burning with curiosity. "That Ares doesn’t want to get married to me because he loves you and that he only agreed to get married to me because he wants to protect you." She explained.
"I don't need his protection," Kayla said curtly.
The princess said nothing as she stared at Kayla. “Did you come here to threaten me to stay away from him?” She asked, putting her swords away and caught Amelia looking at them.
“No, because I know you are a warrior who is hired by Rubeus who has the skill of killing every living thing, no matter who the enemy is.” Kayla was taken back with the princess comment.
“Are you afraid that I will kill you in order to take Ares from you?” Kayla asked.
Amelia’s smile was soft. “No, now that would be crazy. Killing me for a man you don’t even have feelings for.” Kayla stayed quiet and tried to wrap her mind around what was going on.
"Why do you fight?" Princess Amelia asked gesturing towards her swords.
Kayla shrugged. "If not I, who will protect the realm? I already lost a village and my people. I'm not going to watch another village get destroyed." Amelia nodded.
"You are bound to a human." Amelia acknowledged with a smile. "I can see it in your eyes that you are drawn to him." Kayla was a bit baffled.
Amelia was a wizard. Not a sorcerer. She never heard of a wizard being bound to a mate.
"What type of wizard can see my bound?" Kayla queried feeling a bit suspicious about Amelia.
"One that is also bound." That was not something Kayla expected to hear.
"But you are a wizard." Kayla pointed out.
Amelia pulled up her shoulders. "When you are born into royalty or in my case as a princess, your soul gets joined by another.” She explained, acknowledging the sirens who came back out of the river and found themselves struck by Amelia’s beauty and good, innocent heart.
"Is Ares your bound?" She shook her head.
"My father made me reject my mate or he threatened me that he would kill him. I must marry Ares to protect our realms." Kayla didn't miss the look of despair on her face.
“But you didn’t. You only told him to stay away.” Amelia shared a knowing look with Kayla.
“He isn’t from royalty,” Kayla noted. The sad look on Amelia’s face proved that she was right.
Amelia picked a flower from the garden and smiled at the fairies who acknowledged her. “My father and mother come from royalty. They saw my bound as a disgrace. In their eyes he was trash. In my eyes, he is a brave warrior who makes me feel things I’ve never felt before.”
“So, they know who your bound is?” Amelia nodded.
“I couldn’t reject him or even tried to forget about him. I love him and they don’t understand.” Kayla was a bit sceptical.
“Why are you sharing this with me?” She asked the princess.
“Ares told me that you are fascinated by your bondmate. That he is a human and yet, you find him attractive.” Kayla felt like slitting Ares’s throat for sharing their pillow talk with the princess.
Kayla reached for the dagger concealed in her sleeve when she heard footsteps before they emerged from the forest. Amelia covered Kayla’s hand with hers, stopping her from attacking. Amelia stared into Kayla’s eyes and frowned.
“You are a sorceress.” Amelia gasped but not from fear. “How is this possible?” Kayla arched an eyebrow feeling a bit baffled by Amelia’s comment. “No wonder the creatures of the realm fear you so much. It isn’t because of your assassin side but the mythical creature side of you. Trained by a wizard and inherited the powers of a sorceress.” Amelia looked amazed by her discovery.
“Does Rubeus know?” Kayla just gave her a blank look.
“He does, doesn’t he? He fears the power you possess because it is untamed magic.” Kayla took a step away from her when a knight emerged from the forest.
"Princess!" Kayla and Amelia looked at the knight in unison.
"I'm fine, Oliver. I have all the protection I need." She gestured to Kayla and he nodded even if he didn't trust her.
"Your father is looking for you." She heard Amelia sigh.
He then looked at her. “Rubeus and the council are also looking for you regarding today’s mission.”
“And they sent you to tell me?” Kayla was a bit impressed.
“I’m the only one that doesn’t fear you.” Kayla hid her smirk behind her cloak.
She acknowledged the way Amelia smiled at Oliver. “You should be,” Amelia told him.
His eyes flickered with surprise when he looked at the princess including the spark of desire was evident in his eyes and Kayla realized that he was Amelia's bound.
“Well, seems like you are joining me for a stroll,” Amelia said to Kayla but she had to decline.
“I have to take care of a few things before I can head over to the castle.” She told them. She then called Midnight with a whistle and waited patiently for him to show up.
Midnight came running up to her and greeted her with his usual nicker. “Morning, boy.” She picked an apple from the tree and fed him.
“Your companion?” Amelia asked, acknowledging Midnight with a soft, cautious touch and waited for him to accept her.
“Yeah, the only fool who can keep me around.” Midnight made a whiny sound before resting his head on Kayla’s shoulder. “I love you too, boy.” She whispered, scratching his head.
Princess Amelia smiled at Kayla. "It was nice meeting you, Kayla." Kayla nodded.
She then looked at Midnight. “You too, Midnight.” He nickered at her.
"You too, princess."
