Chapter 2
I standing outside the apartment where I lived up until now. I couldn't breathe when I was in there; it made me nauseous to think about Ryan making out and even having s*x with my professor and then coming back to me and being with me, too. I feel sick thinking about it. How can he do this to me? To us? To our baby? I don't know if he wants to be a part of this child's life. I am ten weeks pregnant, and we did a scan just three weeks ago; everything was so awesome, and all our happy plans for our future were in place. Now, here I am alone, pregnant, and I don't know how to deal with the future.
I looked at my friends Michael, "Mike", Ethan, Alexander "Alex," and Elijah, carrying my things to Alex's trail he had hocked to his pickup truck. I am grateful to have fantastic friends who helped me and dropped everything they had going on. My best friend since High school stands beside me, Emma, who is kind enough to let me move in with her. Luckily, her parents bought her an apartment when she started college. I don't know what I would do without her; she's more like a sister than a friend. Her parents have been more than kind to a poor girl like me, especially after I lost my parents in a car accident two years ago. The money I got in inheritance I have been using to get by and pay for school since I lost my parents three years ago. I looked as they took boxes to the trailer with my things. They were done with the few furniture I had as shelves and a crib I bought for my baby. I now need their help to go buy a bed and other things. I can no longer see as the tears are streaming down my face.
Ryan approaches me, and Emma is like a lion trying to protect her cub from whatever is coming.
"Ana, I know you are upset, but you should try to calm down and listen to me. You must understand that we won't have any contact after today, and I don't want to be a part of that baby's life or pay for anything, or didn't you understand that?"
"Why Ryan? We haven't done anything to you."
Ana, you are too sweet and perfect, and I can't stand that. The baby is just an accident, and I hope you miscarry this mistake for the good of us both."
I'm sobbing, and small whimpers come from my mouth. It feels like being struck by lightning. I am in so much pain from his words. Ryan doesn't want to see me again and wants me to miscarry our child. I struggle to comprehend all of this. My lion protector, Emma, knees Ryan between his legs as hard as she can. Ryan is screeching from excruciating pain. Ryan is on his knees on the floor, bent over with his hands between his legs. I don't have time to process what happened before Ethan grabs Ryan and pulls him up. And Alex helps to hold him, too, and Elijah starts to hit Ryan on his torso and face. The apartment is filled with screams from Ryan and me, crying and asking them to stop; when Michael thinks he has enough, he stops them and tells me he did deserve that and more for what he just said. "If he were a man, he would take responsibility for his actions. A spoiled brat dumps his girl and leaves her pregnant with no support. It is unacceptable not to take responsibility. Don't worry, Ana, if Karma does f**k him up, we will, right guys?"
"That's spot on!" The guys chime in unison.
Emma takes my hand, and we talk to her car, and she drives me to her place; I guess it is my home now, too. It's a beautiful 4-room apartment. When we walk into the place I have visited more times than I can say, she hands me a key and says, "Welcome home."
She looks at me like she is thinking about something, then says, "I want you to have the master bedroom." I stand there looking dumbfounded, I am sure. "Em, it's too kind. I can take the smallest room. I am grateful I can stay here."
"No, no, you are my sister, maybe not by blood, but you always were my sister, and soon enough, I will have a niece or a nephew, so you take the master because I know you are going to need it. And Ana, this is your home; no talking about finding your own place, okay?"
"Emma, seriously. I appreciate this more than I can express. I don't know what I would have done without you and the guys."
I hear laughter outside the door. It is our incredible friends, those silly and very protective boys. They're like four older brothers I never wanted; I smile as I think my life isn't too bad after all. They carry a lot of pieces of furniture, but I don't get it. They are new and not from the place that I had with my ex-boyfriend.
"Ana, don't they look great? I told the guys to stop and get everything you need for your room."
"OMG, you must let me pay for all this. It will look like a royal master bedroom with furniture in all oak."
"Hey, it's the best for my sis. And I kind of told my parents, so they insisted I make sure to buy whatever you need."
I walk to the kitchen with Emma, and we have sandwiches and soda; as we sit and chat, I forget about how much time has passed, and out from the bedroom come the boys, and they join us and order pizza for us all. Michael takes my hand and pulls me to my new room; it's so lovely. Every piece of furniture is in oak. The room looks like the bedroom of my dreams. I can't help but cry, and Elijah comes quickly and hits Mike.
"Please, Elijah, don't do that. I was just happy and couldn't believe how beautiful it was. It's a true blessing to have fantastic friends like you."
"Oh, I thought this knucklehead made you cry. No man messes with you. My are my baby sis I never got, you know that."
We all were saved by the bell as the pizza delivery was here. I'm glad we didn't need to continue this conversation. Emma brought the pizzas to the kitchen, and we all sat down to eat and enjoyed some lighter conversations.
