Chapter 6

Chapter 6 Exiting the class, I am surrounded by women who are laughing; some have a smug smile. I'm so happy not to be frozen out of friends and classmates because of my pregnancy and Ryan. One girl looks at me with a severe facial expression and undoubtful tone stats, "Ana, we are your friends and whatever you need come to us. We will give that old hag a sweet revenge." I am stunned by the statement, and before I can get any words out, they are saying their goodbyes to me. I look in their direction as they walk away from me. I can feel my newfound bravery beginning to falter. Like an epiphany, the thought came back with force: COFFEE. Yes, that's what I need. I walk in a rush, like I am on a mission towards the café on campus. I ordered myself a cafe latte. Finally, I will have my much wished for coffee. I stride to a table by the window; I'm alone and want to gaze out the window and get lost in thoughts. As I look out, I sip on my café latte; a man catches my eyes. He is older but so handsome. The man looks like he is in his forties, so sexy yet looking lonely. For a brief moment, our eyes connect. I do not wish to look away; he doesn't want that either. I am tempted to walk outside and start talking to him. His phone has broken the spell; he must have had an incoming call as he pulls it out of his pocket in his suit. He puts it to his ear and gives me a playful smile as if he was excusing himself. Then he walked away as quickly as he appeared. Strangely, I miss him as soon as I see him walking away from me. Why do I feel like he, for a moment, took away my loneliness, but now I feel absolutely desolate? I was lost in thoughts of the mystery man and sipping on my coffee when Emma sat at my table and dropped her books with a bang. My heart pulsates and feels like it is about to jump out of my chest. "What the f**k, Emma!" "Hey yourself! Not my fault you are flirting with older men." I'm ashamed people saw me staring at the handsome man. I hope it's just Emma who saw the longing in me. "Em, I didn't. I swear." "It's fine; you should flirt and find a hottie to make the asshole jealous. Ana, I saw his sexy smile. I bet that man wants you." "He left, and I will never see him again, okay?" "Okay, how about we talk about this peanut in your belly that's getting too much coffee." "give me a break; I need coffee to function." We both break out laughing. We both know I can't go a day without coffee. Suddenly, a bucket of ice-cold water was dropped on my head. I see Ryan. What? He is kissing a girl. She looks to be our age. How many does he have? Emma gets a creepy smile and marches over to them. I'm too curious and follow, but not too closely. "Hey, babe. Who is this girl? I thought we decided to be exclusive and no longer have an open relationship." Emma expresses grudgingly with watering eyes. "You told me you were single when we hocked up a month ago." She snapped at Ryan and stomped away from us. Emma chuckles with an evil smile playing on her lips. "You are a f*****g evil b***h! I will get you and your pathetic knocked-up friend." "Hey, Ryan, what are you if my friend is pathetic? You are the one who knocked her up." This day is too much already. I'm glad I only have one more class. For some reason, they decided everyone in my class would attend the lecture. They booked; a businessman is coming today. I don't know why since I don't study business or law. The professors seem to think it's beneficial to everyone. I think they booked one of the biggest auditoriums so we can have nine classes at the same time, which is about two hundred seventy people. So Emma's class and mine will attend this but also Ryan, which is no surprise since he is studying business. But to be so unlucky that he will be there at the same time as me. I didn't see Ryan go in with his friends, but I'm delighted to have Emma with me. She wants to be in front and in the first row. Emma wants to get a good look at the man giving the lecture; she hopes he is a good-looking man to feast one's eyes on. There are so many going to find their sit. I'm not seeing Ryan, which isn't strange but also a relief. I chat with Emma as we wait for it to start. We make plans to go out afterward to have hamburgers with our friends. As we talked, Emma began to text our friend group on Snapchat. I got hot all over when my eyes met piercing ice-blue eyes. I get hot, getting my breath caught in my throat and dry in my mouth by a man's observation. At the same time, my mouth is watering, watching this sexy man intensely. I never knew I had a thing for older men in a suit. He is easily the most handsome man I have ever seen. I know it's wrong to want him, but I can't help it. I am hungry for a real man, and God, he's sexy. He is looking at all the young men and women sitting, but I feel his eyes are fixed on me. He starts his lecture, but I don't hear a word. I'm watching the most remarkable man; it's magical how I only see him. I don't hear anyone in the auditorium; I know many must be asking questions by the end of his lecture. Emma grabs my hand and rushes forward to the man after the lecture. "Hi there, this is my friend, Ana. And I'm Emma." "Nice meeting you both. As you heard earlier, I'm Shane Jensen." We are pushed away by anyone trying to get into his good graces to have an upper hand to get a job at his company when they finish school. In the sea of people, our eyes are connected with longing. Emma drags me out of the auditorium.
