Chapter 3

Nevie “A vampire?” I repeated, still not believing everything that Talon was telling me. He’d been warm to the touch. In movies, they were cold. “Yes,” he said, leaning back against the sofa. “They’re real but not like twilight vampires. Real ones, they have demons that control them. They kill people. That was it. I knew that though he was talking like normal, he must have gotten hurt. Maybe he’d been hit in the head and real damage had been done? Pulling back to look at him, I moved to my knees beside him. Cupping his cheeks, I looked into his eyes. “Nevie?” Squinting, I looked from one eye to the other, trying to see if there was any difference in the size of his pupils. I frowned when I realized there wasn’t. That didn’t matter. I knew Talon and this wasn’t like him. I ran my fingers through his hair and along his scalp, trying to feel for any lumps. “Nevie.” He repeated my name, his hands moving to my hips. Talon pulled me into his lap, but that didn’t stop me. I had to make sure that he was okay. “Not that I don’t mind you touching me, but what are you doing?” “Trying to find out where you got hit.” “I didn’t. I mean, I did, but nothing that a few day’s rest won’t take care of.” His hands rested on my hips and I sat back, pressing my lips together. “I just don’t get it, you came in… I get it, I was kissing another guy but then like, you kissed me and-” “I’m sorry, I-” “I know, but…” I paused, trying to sort through my words. “Vampires, dragons, next you’re going to tell me that mermaids are real.” “Well-” “No, Talon. No.” I said, not wanting to know. “Our boss is sort of like a mermaid. He’s a merman, it’s why he’s got three mates. He doesn’t plan to take another.” Crossing my arms, I glared at him. There was no way that Ethan was a mermaid, or sort of like a mermaid. He was human, sure a super handsome human. I knew his wife and what I had assumed were his girlfriends. I’d seen their kids. I had just assumed it was a different kind of relationship and who was I to judge what made them happy. “Let go of me, we’re going to the hospital.” “Nevie, no we’re not.” “Talon,” I whined as he gripped my hips. “You’re not behaving like normal.” “I promise you that I’m fine.” He moved his hands up to my sides, pulling me closer to him. “I will never lie to you again.” “You better not.” He brought his hand up, cupping my cheek. I leaned into his touch as my eyes slipped closed and he pressed his lips against mine. Uncrossing my arms, I moved my hands to his shoulders, careful of how I touched him. I didn’t want to hurt him more than he was already hurting. The kiss wasn’t like before. He wasn’t trying to make me hear him. To force me to be quiet, I hated to admit that even though it hadn’t started off how I wanted it to. The kiss had left me breathless and eager to push his buttons in the future. Just to see what he would do. I’d never felt like that before, but something about Talon taking charge had left a part of me wanting. He caressed my cheeks and down my neck, deepening the kiss. I brought my hands lower, pulling his shirt from his jeans, and he let out a hiss. “Sorry, my ribs.” He said, wincing as he leaned back. Gently, I pulled his shirt over his head. Sitting his shirt down on the couch, I worried my lower lip. Bruises were already blooming over his skin in shades of magenta and purple. “Talon,” I shifted off of his lap. “Stay here.” Standing, I moved out of my living room and into the bathroom. I knew he wasn’t going to let me take him to the hospital, but at least I could take care of his wounds. Flipping the light on, I moved to the cabinet beneath the sink. I opened it up, reaching in and pulling out the white and red first aid kit. It wasn’t much, but I could clean him up and put some antiseptic ointment on his face. After that, I’d get him into bed, then I’d call Ethan. I couldn’t let him go to work tomorrow like this. Talking about things that didn’t exist. I could only imagine what would happen if he freaked out on one of the customers. He was finishing off one of the beers when I sat down across from him on the coffee table. I popped the lid open on the first aid kit and pulled out a tiny rubbing alcohol pad. I leaned forward and Talon leaned back. “Nevie, I’m fine.” “Stop being a stubborn ass.” I growled and his lips twitched as he tried not to smile at me. “Yes, mistress,” he smirked. Rolling my eyes, I moved closer to him. Placing a hand on the back of the couch, caging him as he had done to me. “Talon, let me clean you up.” “I like it when you’re bossy.” He said, his eyes twinkling as I brought up the little white square to clean his scraped up cheek. “I can be a lot more than bossy.” His hands moved up the outside of my thighs. “Talon.” He let out a groan, wincing, “This isn’t my preferred way to get pleasure and pain.” I didn’t know what to say to that. That he liked pleasure and pain. I was curious to what he meant. I’d read Fifty Shades of Grey like most women, but I hadn’t been impressed by the book. After the main character had called her safeword and been ignored. I had to put the book down. It hadn’t seemed right. I hadn’t been in that type of relationship before, but it just didn’t sit well with me. “What, um, what kind of pain do you like with your pleasure?” I asked as I dabbed his skin, not meeting his eyes. My cheeks heated up. I didn’t need to look at him to know that I had his full attention. “Is that something you’d like?” He asked, running his hands higher up my thighs until they gripped my hips. “I don’t know.” “Is that something that you’ve done before?” He asked. I leaned back, grabbing the yellow and white tube of ointment. Nervous to answer his question, would he think differently of me if I hadn’t? I shook my head as I twisted the lid off and squeezed some of the thick ointment onto my fingertips. “No, I haven’t. I mean, I’ve dreamed about it before. Never in real life though.” “Would you want to?” My breath caught in my throat and my heart pounded. Did I want that? “I don’t know.” His lips twitched into a smile as he leaned closer, grabbing my wrist. His thumb stroking over my skin and up my sleeve. “We can find out together.” I blinked up at him. That wasn’t what I’d thought that he was going to say. He leaned closer to me, grabbing one of the gauze pads. Wiping my fingers off. “Nevie, it’s okay not to know what you want. Half the fun is figuring it out together and if it’s not something you like, we don’t have to have that type of relationship. We can just be what we are right now.” “You want more, don’t you?” I asked, looking at him through lowered lashes. “Very much so.” His smile widened, and my heart did a funny little jump as he brought my hand up to cup his uninjured cheek. “How about tomorrow we go on a date? We can get you some books so you can read them over and get an idea of what you’d like to try.” Brushing my thumb over his jaw, I nodded. I wanted to explore this with Talon. I trusted him. More so than I’d ever trusted anyone else. “Would this date also happen to have ice cream?” “With sprinkles?” I smiled and leaned closer to him, pressing my lips against his. “Then I’d love to go on a date with you.” He smiled against my lips before nipping at my lower lip. Giving it a gentle tug, “Mmm, we could go get some ice cream and sprinkles tonight. I could have my own Nevie-sundae.” “Not tonight.” I playfully swatted at his arm before remembering that he was hurt. “I’m sorry.” “Want to kiss it and make it better?” “Talon.” I hissed. He pulled his hands away. Rubbing his arm. “You sure, I’ve got a lot of things you could kiss and make better.” He moved his hand to his abs, raising an eyebrow at me. “To bed with you.” “So eager? Yes, Mistress.” He smirked, and I turned away from him, cleaning up the mess of gauze and alcohol swabs. Standing, I looked towards the hallway, making sure that he was in my bedroom before I tossed everything into the trash. I moved over to my phone, pulling up my text messages before I sent one to Ethan. Letting him know that Talon wouldn’t be in. I sat my phone on the charger, checking the lock on my door before turning off the hall light. Moving into my small living room, I picked up the empty beer bottles and took them to the trash, turning off the lights as I went. When I got to the kitchen, I took a minute to water the small herbs that say on the windowsill above my sink. My eyes were drawn to movement outside. Placing the plants back onto the windowsill. I squinted, looking out the window. Omen stood beneath the street lamp, looking up at my apartment. I thought about what Talon had told me, that he was a vampire. Laughing, I shook my head. Vampires weren’t real. He seemed to be waiting for something, and a part of me hoped that it was me he was waiting for. The other part of me felt guilty. I was involved with Talon and I shouldn’t be feeling this way for someone else. As I stood there, I thought about how it had felt to kiss him. My lips tingled, and I brought my hand up, touching my fingertips to them. Trailing my way down my throat, he’d wrapped his hands around my neck. It had made me wet and left my body thrumming with the need for more. A need to know what it would be like to be with him. I had the feeling that it would be something I wouldn’t be able to step away from. I looked back down at him as he stood under the streetlamp. If I didn’t know any better, I would have thought that he was watching me. I knew that he wouldn’t be able to see me. The kitchen was dark. The only light that was on was the one in my bedroom. Turning away, I shook my head. Maybe it was Talon’s talk earlier? It must have my mind going overboard with things that I knew weren’t real. Omen wasn’t a vampire. Talon wasn’t some hunter and my boss wasn’t a merman with three mates. It was a neat thought, though, that those kinds of creatures could be real. I walked out of the kitchen, stripping my sweater off as I went. My skin felt overly warm and my body ached from the double shift. I made my way to the bathroom, turning the light on before tossing my sweater into the hamper. I pushed the shower curtain back, turning the water on before stripping out of the rest of my clothing. I’d have a quick shower, then I’d go curl up beside Talon. I didn’t have to be in early, since tomorrow was my day off. Sticking my hand under the water, I made sure it was warm before stepping over the tub and into the pounding spray. Letting it soothe my aching shoulders. Today had been busy, and I was glad for the extra money. I hoped the rest of the week could be just as busy. Picking up my body wash, I grabbed a washcloth. Dumping out some of the pink, sweet smelling gel. I lathered my body before rinsing off. Turning the water off, I stepped out of the shower. Grabbing a towel and drying off before slipping on my robe. I pulled the hair tie from my hair, letting my hair free of its bun as I walked to the counter. Looking in the mirror, I grabbed my hair brush. Working it through the tangled strands as I studied my face. I looked tired and like I needed to spend some time in the sun. When I had my hair smoothed out and untangled, I sat my brush down, slathering on some moisturizer. Maybe that would help me look more rested? Sticking my tongue out at my reflection, I turned away. Hanging up my towel before leaving the bathroom. Once I was in the hallway, I looked towards my room. A soft line of light streamed through the partially opened door. Talon was in there and even though he’d spent the night before. This was different. He wasn’t on my couch. He was in my bed, waiting for me. Taking a deep breath, I pushed open the door. Talon was in my bed, his chest rising and falling as he breathed evenly. His boyish face relaxed in sleep. He looked so different from normal, without that charming smile that made my mind go blank. I stepped into my room, taking my robe off. I moved over to my dresser, pulling out one of the oversized shirts that I liked to sleep in. The faded purple cotton tank top was soft in my hands. I pulled it over my head. Turning off the lights, I slipped beneath the covers. “Kitten.” His voice was a deep rumble, and I knew that something was up. Already I was draped over his knee, fingertips trailed over the back of my thighs. Making them shake as I fought to hold still. “Derrick?” “Such a naughty girl, letting another man touch you.” His fingers moved higher, pushing my shirt up. He palmed my ass, squeezing it until I groaned. “Tell me, does he touch you like this?” I rested my cheek against the bedding as he moved his fingers over my folds. Tugging at the short hair that covered my s*x. “No.” His other hand moved to my lower back, pinning me in place as he moved his fingers against my s*x. Teasing them against my opening, spreading my wetness around. “Does he know how you sound when you’re getting f****d?” I shook my head, unable to say anything as he plunged two fingers inside of me. Not waiting for my body to adjust as he thrust them in and out of my cunt. A wet squelching sound filled the room, making my face heat up. I rolled my hips. Pressing myself against his thigh. The rough denim fabric slowly becoming damp as I sought the friction that I needed. “Kitten, I want to hear it.” He growled, pulling his fingers from me, swatting my bottom. “Yes, yes.” I sobbed out, not ready for him to be done f*****g me with his fingers. I wanted to come. I wanted him to s***k me again. It was too much and not enough. “Good girl.” His fingers moved lower, and then they were on that tight bundle of nerves, circling it in a figure-eight pattern. I arched my back, spreading my legs further as I let out a mewling sound. “You’re my good girl, aren’t you, kitten?” His voice was husky and low. His erection digging into my stomach as he kept working his fingers against me in that pattern that made me dizzy. “Yes, I am.” I panted, turning my head back into the bedding to stifle the sounds that I was making. His nails dug into the skin of my lower back. Not hurting me, just enough to add to the pleasure that he was building up inside of me. When I was on the edge of that sweet spot of falling over, he pulled his fingers away. I turned my head, letting out a growl of frustration. Tears in my eyes as I tried to catch my breath. His hand moved over my bottom before giving it a sharp smack. He caressed the back of my thigh before repeating the swat, and my vaginal walls tightened. “Nevie, do you want to come?” “Please.” His fingers moved over the stinging skin where he had s*****d me, tracing the lines of his handprint. “You’re so beautiful like this, kitten. Your skin glowing red, your cunt dripping against my thigh. Desperate to come for me.” I rocked my hips, pressing myself against him, and he chuckled. Swatting my p***y with an open palm. “Who do you belong to?” For some reason his question felt heavy, but I knew that I had to answer him, that I wanted to please him. “You, Derrick. I belong to you.” “Lay on the bed, I always take care of what’s mine.” His voice was thick, almost inhuman. I put a shaking foot on the floor. My legs were weak, and his hands moved to my hips. Holding me steady, reassuring me that he was with me. That he wouldn’t let me fall. He leaned closer to my s*x, holding me in place. Derrick breathed in the scent of my arousal. His eyes darkened as he looked up at me, his nose trailing through my curls. Brushing against heated skin. “Lay down.” He ordered, letting go of my hips. I stepped around him, crawling onto the bed before settling back against the pillows. The bedspread was rough against my sensitive bottom. It didn’t bother me as Derrick stood. Turning to look at me. His amber eyes moved up my legs as he pulled his black shirt up and over his head, revealing his broad chest. A dark sprinkling of hair covered his muscles, but beneath that were the lines of a tattooed moon in its lunar cycle. So similar to the ring that I’d found. I didn’t have long to study the tattoo as he placed his hands on the bed. Climbing slowly to me, he settled himself between my thighs and I trembled. He blew his hot breath over my labia, and I brought my hand up to my mouth. Teeth digging into my palm to keep from begging him. “Nevie, do you not want to come?” My eyes widened. He pressed his lips against my s*x, closed mouth kisses as he waited for me to respond. “No, Derrick. Please, I need you.” I said, thrusting my hips forward. Desperate for him to touch me. My body pulsed with need and in that moment I would have done anything that he asked me to, just to have the release that he could give me. “Please.” “Nevie, remember that it’s me that makes you feel this way. That this.” he moved his tongue over my p***y in a long lick from my asshole to clit. “Is mine.” “Yes,” I whimpered as he started to f**k me with his tongue in earnest. His thumb moved over my clit with gentle strokes. My body clenched up and Derrick growled against me. The vibrations sending me over. He didn’t stop working his tongue in and out of me. Not letting me come down, he started to build up to the next o****m. He replaced his tongue with his fingers, moving to suck my clit into his mouth. He hooked two fingers inside of me, pressing them up against my g-spot until I was babbling his name. Fireworks going off against the back of my eyelids as my vaginal walls clenched up around his fingers and he chuckled. “Derrick, f**k. Oh god.” I panted and I could feel his lips moving into a smile as he kept up the pace, not giving me a chance to come down from this feeling. Dragging it out until he was the only one that I could think about. He said that I was his. I knew that I was, no matter how much I loved Talon. I didn’t understand how a dream could feel so real. He pulled his fingers from my body, pulling back to look up at me with eyes that glowed. “Nevie, you are mine.” I nodded my head as he moved up my body. I was his, even if it was only in my dreams.
