Chapter 2 The first storm blew by fairly quickly. The next one, hard on its heels, came in and settled as if it meant to remain until Christmas. Along with it came an Arctic express blast of bitter cold, so cold the snow fell dry and fine. With the gusty gale-force winds, it blew around instead of settling. As Nate watched the news and weather on TV and followed weather.com on his computer, his worries grew. How could the people in the homeless camps hope to survive? The wind chill settled into the twenty below bracket and he could just imagine what the fierce gusts would do to the flimsy shelters in which most of the campers lived. When he saw the news report that two campers had died, he knew he had to act. A cold fear settled low in his gut. What if one of them was the big man, Merl?
