Chapter 1

Alex’s POV

Two years later

“Tin, where are you going all dressed up?” I asked her as soon as she came into my office.

“I am going to see an old friend for lunch.”

“Who?”

“It’s Amanda. We grew up together.”

“Ok, baby, have a good time and take a guard with you.”

“Alex, I don’t need a guard. I will be just fine.”

“Please don’t fight me on this.”

“I am not taking one. I am capable of protecting myself.’

“I know you are, but if anything happened to you, I wouldn’t be able to live with myself or I could just come with you.”

“No, I will take someone.” She came and kissed my cheek after that and walked out of my office.

As soon as she was gone, I sent Zane a link to see if he wanted to spar. He was my cousin and also my Beta. Kane had taken over as Alpha with his mate Hailee, since they didn’t have a son. He always wanted to be Alpha and now he is killing it over there at his pack. It was the best move for him. I hated him going and not being here, but we don’t always get what we want.

Zane was waiting for me in the gym when I got there. I walked over to the chairs and sat down beside him as he tied up his shoes.

“What’s up, man?” He asked me.

“Just need to blow off some steam.”

“Why you have the perfect life with the perfect Luna?”

“Far from perfect.”

“Please, I see the way you look at her.”

“Exactly, the way I look at her, but not the way she looks at me.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

“I don’t know, man. She is suddenly taking calls away from me and texting all the time and now she is meeting friends I have never heard her talk about.”

“Well, you know she isn’t cheating because you would feel that through the bond.”

“Ya, I know.” The problem was, I didn’t know. We never marked each other. She didn’t want to, and I was OK with that. We had tattoos done to make it look like one. I was young and loved her and would have done anything for her.

I stepped up to the punching bag and started hitting it while Zane held it in place for me. We switched back and forth for a while and then moved on to lifting weights together. It was always a comfortable silence with him. He knew I had s**t on my mind, but didn’t press me about it.

After my workout, I headed to our room and saw Tin pulling up to the pack house alone with no guard. I waited for her to park her car and come inside. As soon as she stepped through the doors, I grabbed her and pulled her to me.

“Alex, you're all sweaty,” she said as she pushed me back.

“I just came from the gym and where is your guard?”

“Fine, you caught me. I didn’t take one.”

“Our room now,” I growled at her.

I stormed up the stairs, and she was right behind me. As soon as we were in our little apartment and she shut the door, I turned around to face.

“Why?”

“Why what Alex?”

“I asked you to take a guard, and you didn’t.”

“I wanted to go alone.”

“Are you seeing someone else?”

“What NO! I love you.”

“Is that why you didn’t want my mark?”

“No, you know how I feel about marks. I thought you were OK with that.”

“I am or I was, but now you're taking calls in other rooms, you're having lunch with friends I don’t know and have never even heard you talk about. What is going on?”

“Goddess Alex, don’t you trust me?”

“I did, but right now I don’t know.”

“I can’t believe you right now.”

“Me, you can’t believe me. You're the one sneaking around and won’t tell things and refuse to take a guard.”

“I’m sorry Alex. I did go see a friend, but sometimes I need some space and want to go alone. We haven’t had an attack in a long time. I didn’t think it would be that big of a deal.”

“Because you thought you wouldn’t get caught. I love you and if something happened to you, I would be so lost.”

“OK, next time I will take a guard.”

I pulled her to me and kissed her. “Alex, you're all sweaty, it is gross.” She said as she pushed me away.

“So I can get you all sweaty too.”

“Later, I have to go help your mom with something and besides, you would need to shower first and then we would need to shower after.”

“Or we could just shower together, you know, conserve water.”

“I am going to see your mom.”

She walked out of our room, and I headed into the shower.

“Titan, what do you think is going on?” I linked with my wolf.

“I don’t know. I don’t feel anything from her or her wolf. I still want to mark her.”

“I know, and you know how she feels about it. I understand it, but maybe I should have fought her harder when we first met on it.”

“Ya, because then we would know for sure if she was cheating.”

I cut my link with Titan and got out of the shower, and got dressed. I needed to call my brother. He was the only one who knew about us and not being marked.

After getting dressed, I headed back to my office and grabbed my cell phone and dialed Kane’s number.

“Hey Alex, what’s going on?”

“Got a few minutes? I need to talk.”

“Of course.”

I spent the next hour talking on the phone with Kane and told him about everything that has been going on with Tin. He thinks that I should hire a PI to follow her and find out, and I am half tempted to do just that. I want to give her the benefit of the doubt and give her a chance to come clean about things. I got us some reservations at her favorite place and sent her some flowers with a card asking her to be ready by seven.

I busied myself with paperwork for the rest of the day. At five, I went and got ready to take my mate out on a date. I got ready in our spare bathroom so she could get ready in ours and not be in each other’s way. Once I was ready, I stepped out of the spare bedroom and into our main living area and Tinlee walked through the front door.

“You aren’t ready?”

“Sorry, I will hurry. I got caught up in helping your mom.”

“OK, well, I am going to talk with my dad. Just let me know when you are ready to go.”

I walked out of our room and headed to my parents’ place. They lived in a house behind the pack house. My dad had it built for my mom when I was a baby. He also had the apartment we live in built, well, more like converted before we were born. I walked inside and went to the kitchen, where I knew my mom would be cooking dinner.

“Hey mom,”

“Hey Alex, you're all dressed up tonight. Got a date with Tinlee?”

“Ya, she didn’t tell you.”

“Honey, I haven’t seen her in a few days.”

“She wasn’t here all afternoon helping you with something.”

“No, but she was supposed to be.”

“Have you seen dad?”

“Look in his office.”

I got up and went to his office. I knocked on the door and went in. My dad’s had an open door policy. Yes, dads. My mom has two mates. My biological father was Xander and Kanes was well Kane, but they both raised and they are both my dads. Although Kane was a little more laid back than my dad Xander but they both loved us the same.

“Hey son, what’s up? It’s not often that you come knocking on our office door anymore.”

“Do you guys have a minute?”

“Of course, we always have a minute for you.” Kane said.

“Well, there is something weird going on with Tinlee.”

I explained everything to them. I just had a bad feeling about things.

“So you're telling me that you aren’t actually marked?” Xander asked me.

“No sir. She convinced me when we found each other and at the time I didn’t care, but now I wish we would have.”

“Well, ya, it would have been wise.” Kane said.

“Titan was ok with this?”

“Not exactly.”

“Son, next time, listen to your wolf. If I would have listened to Jax more when I found your mother, it would have caused us a lot less heartache.”

“I know, dad. I talked with Kane earlier today and he thinks I should hire a PI to follow her.”

“I agree with him. This way, you can put it to rest.” My dad Xander said.

“OK, he had a guy for me to call. I will call him tomorrow.”

“Good now. Why are you so dressed up?” Kane asked.

“I am supposed to be taking Tinlee on a date, but she was late. She said she was helping mom with something, but mom said she hasn’t seen her in a few days.”

“See, hire the PI.” My dad said.

“Thank you,” I told both of them, getting up and leaving the room.

I went into the kitchen and gave my mom hug and then walked out of my childhood home and went to our little apartment. I opened the door and found that Tinlee wasn’t ready. In fact, she hadn’t gotten ready at all. She was sitting on the bed talking on the phone. She hung up as soon as she saw me and ran to the bathroom. I went to the closet and changed out the clothes I had on and headed outside to shift and run. As soon as I got out there, I got a mind link from Tinlee.

“Alex, baby, come back. I am sorry I got sidetracked. We can still go out.”

“It’s fine. I am going for a run.”

“Wait, I will go with you.”

“No, I need some time alone.” I told her and then put up a block and shifted into Titan and let him take control.
