Jem placed me gently on the log, which honestly surprised me. I didn’t think these people knew how to be gentle, but after seeing Ren with Ana, I was starting to realize I was wrong. They might be hardened assassins, but they were people all the same. Most of them were banished from their kingdoms so they were criminals, but surprisingly that didn’t bother me as much as I thought it would. Jem heated the fire and stirred the pot on it, placing some vegetables and meat inside. “Is that all you eat?” I asked him distantly, my head still ringing.
