Olivia’s Point of view
After class I went to the cafeteria to get food for myself, I stood in the line taking the food that I wanted when Ethan showed up again. He stood in front of the line and started taking mostly the milkshakes from the kids; I knew he was coming for me so before I could even get my fruit; I left the queue to that I avoid bumping into him.
I looked around the cafeteria, and everyone was busy with other people. What was I going to do? All the tables were filled, and I had nowhere to sit.
I sighed heavily wanting to throw away the food but Kim stopped me., “Do you know how many people haven’t eaten today?” She asked me as I rolled my eyes, looking away. She knew how to meddle in other people’s busy.
“Come on, I have a seat reserved for you over there,” She said to me as she held on to her plate.
“I am fine, I will go eat home” I turned down her offer, and she smiled, “You have the whole day to be here, let’s go I promise not to talk to you,” She said with a grimace on her face, I bit my lower lip as I looked around.
“Okay fine, I will come with you,” I said to her following her where she was going, she had her table which was not occupied, she put the food on the table and pulled the chair for herself as I did the same.
“I got you an apple, I noticed you like them,” She said placing it on my plate, I glared at her and she chuckled looking at me.
“Sorry, I promise to keep quiet,” She said to me as I nodded my head, starting to eat the food which I had gotten, there was pasta with mince, cheese bread, and potatoes mash.
“How’s your arm?” I questioned; she lifted her eyes looking at me with her eyes widened at me
“Well, It’s fine. It’s nothing serious” She replied as I nodded my head, focusing on my salad. She got hers and put them on mine.
“Do you like them that much?” She asked me as I nodded my head. I hated eating pasta that was made in this cafeteria, it was so dry and tasteless.
“I am sorry about your arm; I didn’t know that I hurt you that much. I thought maybe you were making it up after you asked me to join you for ice cream,” I said to her and she giggled, nodding her head.
“how about we go out for some after school? Then we can call it even?” She asked me, I paused for a minute thinking about it. Aunt Rita wanted me to accompany her to get things for the party she was hosting later this weekend, and I smiled. I hated going with her, but maybe it wouldn’t be so bad.
“My aunt wants me to go with her today after class, perhaps we can go together? Then I can get you your ice cream?” I suggested to her, and she laughed nodding her head, she seemed excited but I hated it so much.
The school bell went off, and we knew it was time for us to get back to class, I quickly picked up my plate and milk shall before I stood up. She grabbed her things,
We quickly made our way to the biology lab, and I went to sit on my chair as she went to hers. I was custom to sitting alone as everyone said I could smell like I was from the country.
After doing the tests we were doing I went to the other classes and by the time school hours were over I was already hungry.
“Are you ready?” She came to me as I put my books in the locker, I nodded my head grabbing my things.
“Let’s go!” I said to her, leading the way out of the hallway. “So how are we getting there? Are we using the school bus?” She inquired as I shook my head.
“No, my aunt is coming to pick us up,” I said to her as we made our way to the visitor car park, I checked where Jeff usually parks the car and there was nothing.
“Oh, no!” I said to myself, realizing that aunt Rita might have parked the car somewhere else, “What’s wrong?” She questioned me as looked around the car park.
“Well, the driver usually parks over there, but I think my aunt could have packed somewhere else,” I said to her as she raised her eyebrows.
“Call her and find out,” She said to me as I started walking around the car park looking for Aunt Rita, “I don’t have a phone,” I said looking around and she gasped looking at me.
“You don’t have a phone? Wow!” she said to me as I focused on looking for my aunt.
“No, I don’t have one,” I said to her until when I found my aunt parked in the visitor’s car park, I turned, making my way to the car.
“Why?” She asked me as I held on to my phone,
“Well, I just don’t like it. And my mother said that I can only get a phone when I turn 16 years old,” I said to her as we went on going to the car.
“Your mom? She’s a cool person” she was to me as I swallowed hard, “She was” I mentioned making my way to the car.
“Was?” She asked as I made my way to my aunt’s car.
“Hello Olly, how was school?” Aunt Rita greeted me as I got in the car.
“Great, I came with a friend hope it’s fine,” I said to her as I settled back in the car, and she smiled at me watching as Kim got in the car.
“Oh, hi sweetie,” she said vividly smiling at Kim who was grinning.
“Aunt Rita, this is Kim. We are in the same class; Kim meet my Aunt Rita.” I said to her as she nonchalantly nodded her head.
“Nice to meet you,” Aunt Rita said to Kim who was smiling at her looking around the car.
“Okay, let’s go!” she said starting the car, I was quiet through the drive to the mall as I heard Kim chatting with my aunt. I had no interest in knowing whatever they were talking about.
We got to the shopping mall, and I was the first one to come out, leaving my bag inside. I kept on, looking for a place to get Kim her ice cream so I can pay off my bed, but aunt Rita was busy tagging us along to her shops.
“So, Kim? Do you live with your parents?” My aunt asked Kim, I just looked at her saying nothing, it embarrassed me about it, she must live with her parents.
“No, I live with my cousin and his parents…. We are neighbors,” She said to my aunt as I widened my eyes, Neighbors?
“really? Do you live along our street?” I questioned with a bit of sarcasm in my voice.
“Yes, we live along the same road…. You are just a few houses from where I live” she said, I didn’t pay much attention to what she was saying because I had no intention of seeing her again after today.
“That’s great! I am glad to know that Olly has a friend” She said to Kim who faked a smile, I rolled my eyes looking away. I couldn’t believe my aunt believed that I was friends with her. Why did she conclude things?
We reached by the shop she was taking us as I followed her behind; she had taken us to her hairstylist. Was she serious right now? I couldn’t believe my eyes right now. Did she realize it was getting late?
“Aunt Rita, do you want to fix your hair right now?” I questioned her as she smiled at me.
“No, I only came to pick up conditioners for your hair, I will be back soon okay? “She said before she dashed off alone, I sighed heavily as I swung my legs right and left.
“Wow, your aunt is cool!” Kim said I nonchalantly nodded my head saying nothing, she went on talking about all these different things she saw that are just amazing, she talked about how happy she was my aunt got her the bracelet she was now wearing but I wasn’t paying attention.
“Olivia?” She called my name as I looked at her,
“Yes?” I responded, and she seemed disappointed that I wasn’t listening to her.
“Sorry, I should have been… I shouldn’t have come It must be so uncomfortable for you” She said to me as I looked at her. I wanted to tell her she was right, but anyway she helped me get through being around Aunt Rita.
I looked at her as she kept her head down now saying nothing, “Thank you for coming and tolerating my aunt” I said to her as she reluctantly nodded her head.
“Sorry, I can’t get your ice cream… Maybe I can…” I wanted to say, but she cut me short.
“No, It’s fine…. I only said I wanted to get ice cream with you because I thought we might get along eventually but guess I was wrong,” She said looking down, I sighed heavily.
As I kept quiet too, when Aunt Rita came back, we just followed her behind saying nothing.
Kim got in the car and looked away as I got in too, Aunt Rita kept talking until we got to Kim’s house.
“Is this where you live? I know the Houston’s, but we never have time to chat.” My aunt said peeping out the window.
“Thank you, Rita,” Kim said before getting out of the car, I looked at her then ahead.
She never turned back to look at the car, I could feel aunt Rita’s gaze on me but I didn’t dare to say anything to her.
“Are you okay? Did you guys fight?” She questioned me after she drove a few houses away from Kim’s Place. I shook my head and continued looking ahead.
“Olivia, sometimes we need a friend to open up to. I think Kimberley can make a great friend; she talks a lot unlike you, but I know she cares about you.” She said to me but I didn’t respond, she always tried to act like my mother but I didn’t want her to act like it.
We finally got home, and I helped her with unpacking all the things she got for the house, and when I finished, I went to my room; I was only coming back downstairs to have dinner.

The next day I reached at school just when Kimberly was coming out of the car, “Hey,” I said to her, I didn’t bother too much to notice that she was with Ethan.
I had thought about what Aunt Rita said and thought it won’t be too hard to be friends with Kim, so I planned on talking to her before classes.
“Hi,” She responded, holding on to her backpack
“Listen I am sorry, I acted like that yesterday, it’s just that….” I wanted to say when I say Ethan walk by us, he wanted to turn but Kim just gave him a frosty glare and he went on walking away.
“I know I have been a complete i***t, but can we at least try to be friends again, I promise to be much better this time around, I can also help you with your science?” I said to her as she started walking away,
“I will….” I wanted to say to her when she turned around looking at me,
“You want to be my friend now? What happened overnight?” She questioned me as I swallowed hard,
“Well, Nothing… I just want…” I said to her as she let out a burst of laughter
“Wow! You have no sense of humor” she said, nudging my shoulder as I pursed my lips together.
“I would be happy to be friends with you, I mean who wouldn’t want to be close to a genius?” she questioned me as I scoffed, I was no genius.
“But you have to promise to try a be a cool friend?” She said to me as I nodded my head.
“Come on! Let’s go, before we miss class”, she linked her arm with me before dragging me along with her as we went to our lockers.
