Chapter 7Ahlqvist arranged for a constable to wait on the hill in case Axel should come strolling along. No one thought he would, but I couldn’t bear to think of him finding his way to the top and not seeing anyone there. The rest of us walked down to the lake. Despair had settled deep within me. The sun was drawing nearer the horizon by the minute, and even though it wouldn’t grow dark for some time, an unnatural dusk was covering the woods. I couldn’t stand the thought of Axel being alone during the night. “There has to be something else we can do.” I was going over the possibilities in my head. “What about helicopters?” “A search party is on the way.
