Janet woke up the next day to a bright sun filtering into her room and the familiar ache in her chest that occurred whenever she woke up alone because Nick didn’t spend the night with her. He’d had a brief dinner in the dining hall, exchanged a few words with her and then holed himself up in his office again with his men. Janet had classes which she attended and came home completely tired. She was lucky that there were no protocol classes with Fiona today. But what Fiona had said really had struck a nerve with Janet.
