Janet lay in bed that night, thinking back to her time earlier with Nick. He’d walked her back to her rooms after his admission, telling her to think about his proposition.
“If you decide that you truly want to go back home, I need time to diffuse the situation. Many people within the palace know who you are. I don’t want someone following you back home and hurting you in an attempt to get back at me. We’d have to make it look like we didn’t suit and rejected each other amicably,” Nick explained gently as they stood outside the entrance to her room.
