Chapter 8

1196 Words
Delilah My break comes faster than expected. I am planning a meeting and invite a few people in until the clock shows me that I have now an hour off. At his request, I call my boss before I make my way to the exit of the building. I step out of the building onto the city streets and make my way, fast pace, to the Starbucks around the corner. Whether Bree is already there or not, I can guess at this time bad. As much as possible, I push myself through the real crowds and make my own way. That's how I get to that café pretty fast and step inside. To my chagrin, the snakes are unbearably long at this time of day. But I have to go through that. That's why I let my eyes wander around looking for my girlfriend. Finally, I discover her, already in line. She waves me over and I try to join her as unobtrusively as possible. Fortunately nobody complains about my predilection action. "Hey," she greets me with a friendly smile. "Hey," I reply, happy to see her, "Thank you for leaving me a seat." "It goes without saying," she replies and puts her hands in her jacket pockets. She literally pervades me with her searching eyes. Immediately I realize what she wants. Nevertheless, I ignorantly say, "What is it?" "Do you like the new job?", She raises both eyebrows questioningly. "So far, it's not bad," I answer honestly, although I have to say that so far I have not had any big tasks. She wiggles her eyebrows: "How do you like your new bosses?" I'm caught biting my lip. Badly, the two of them do not look honest. "Okay," I understate. "Okay?", She repeats critically and gives me a doubtful look. "Yeah, okay," I say curtly. Then I take my chance to distract from the topic and stand in front of the counter, where I order my meal with a friendly smiling lady. Fortunately, Bree lets the topic rest and gives her order without hesitation. While we wait, silence reigns between us. With our trays in hand, we go in search of a table and finally fall on two chairs. "Did you have to do something heavy so far?", She gives me an interested look while she chews on her drinking straw. She had already learned this habit when we first met, and it seems to be an outlet for her to relieve her stress. Knowing that she herself is unsure if she can meet the demands of a real job - I do not think she needs to worry about that - I'll answer the question straight away: "My boss has Giving me an insight into his diary and asking me to schedule a meeting for him. " "Does not sound so bad", she rests on her elbows: "Do you think that would be something for me?" I shrug my shoulders uncertainly: "No idea, under certain circumstances, everyone probably has to try it themselves." She bites her lip: "I think when I'm done with my studies, I want to do something creative first." This reflection fits her much better, which is why I nod in agreement. As I'm about to start another topic, my cell phone vibrates in my jacket pocket suddenly and I pull it out. "Who is that?", My counterpart hooks immediately and I shrug my shoulders unknowingly: "Good question!" A message has arrived and I open my messenger service to read it. To my astonishment, however, the sender is an unknown number. I raise my eyebrows and lean back in my chair. Where are they? As I feel Bree's curious eyes on me, I try to distract her with a new topic so that I can calmly answer, "Was there anything between Noah and you?" I wiggle my eyebrows with interest, before turning back to the message. Um, sorry, but who are you? Although I do not know who it is, but have a hunch. After all, I did not particularly like that many people that day. That's why I suspect that it might be my boss. "No, of course not," she crossed her arms a little outraged in front of her chest and avoids my gaze. I look at her doubtfully, "Really, why did he come out of your room this morning?" Although Noah has already told me what happened, but I want to hear it again from her mouth. Maybe she will tell me something new. Nathan Turner, your boss. When I read the message, I automatically roll my eyes. That's not serious. Finally, I have a break. "He just brought me home last night and looked after me this morning, nothing more," she says emphatically. She looks me straight in the eye and I believe her without any doubt. A happy grin appears instinctively on my lips: "He took really sweet care of you last night." You know I'm taking a break, right? Right now, Bree's cheeks turn red. When she opens her mouth, you can immediately see how hard this question is for her: "D-Do you think he might like me too?" Oh really? But you did not log out. "I'm pretty sure," I reply with an honest look: "Otherwise he would have let me take you home and would not have insisted on doing it myself." She bites her lower lip firmly, but does not reply. Yes, I have. But it actually does not matter. What did they want? Did not my boss really notice that I signed off with him? In that case, I'm really worried. For that you really had to be somewhere else with your thoughts. However, it is probably not easy to run an entire company. Although he still has his brother, both men are still quite young and probably more stressed than I'll ever be. "I think you should ask him for a date," I break the silence after a few seconds. Quickly she shakes her head: "No, I can not do that." "Why not?" I ask in surprise, as I was pretty sure she would like the idea. "I certainly would not be able to handle a basket," she explains ruefully. I roll my eyes: "He would never do that." "I would not be so sure about that", with these words she ends the conversation, but internally I am still not through with the topic. I'll come up with something else. She can be sure of that. I wanted to ask you to come to my office before you leave work. As this news comes in, I look questioningly at the display. What can he want? Have I already done something wrong? Alright, I'll try to think about it. As soon as I've sent the message, I'll take a look at the clock. My break is almost over. "Okay, I have to go now", I slowly lift myself from my chair: "See you tonight, okay?" "Okay, take care of yourself," she hugs me gently and then takes our both trays to deliver them. Meanwhile, I'm on my way to the exit. If I go now, I will hopefully arrive in time.
