Chapter 8: Misfortune

"Cruse, this is the man I told you about." Cruse stood up and nodded politely at Chairman Joseph. "Hello, Chairman Joseph." "Oh, welcome. Please enjoy yourselves." "Well, Nicole said that there was a new friend in the family and wanted us to meet him." "Well, do you mean Joe? He is not a new friend. He is Nicole’s fiancé." The room fell into shell-shock silence as all the individuals in the room glanced at Joe. Cruse and his friends were not surprised to hear that because Nicole had told them just now that her Grandpa wanted her to marry a loser named Joe. Of course, she did not want to marry him, so she had asked them to come and humiliate Joe to turn him off. "Oh, I see. Nicole, why didn't you tell us about such an important thing? I thought we were good friends." "That's right, Nicole, why didn’t you tell us? " "Is it too late to tell you now?" "What's going on?" "He's going to be a son-in-law by adoption in my family. Am I right, Joe?" Joe was pleased when he looked into Nicole's triumphant eyes. That’s it? That’s your test, Nicole? Nicole Andrew, you are so naïve! "Yes," Joe replied happily. Now Nicole was dumbfounded. According to her plan, Joe should have felt ashamed that he would have to publicly deny the engagement. How could he just admit it? That is alright, Nicole thought to herself. I still have an ace up my sleeve.  "Our children will take my last name Andrew. Isn’t that a betrayal of your family?" This was even less of a problem for Joe. His name had been given by the orphanage, and he did not even know whether his last name ‘Smith’ was real or not. "Of course not." Nicole was completely stunned.  Everyone was dumbfounded, looking at Joe with a disdainful look. Joseph saw his chance and gave the final word, "Nicole and Joe will have to register today. I'm afraid they will have to excuse themselves now. Enjoy yourselves. We will have you guys over at their wedding ceremony soon." Everyone was even more surprised now. Was this for real? Cruse felt extremely anxious to see his beloved girl being taken away from him. He was in shock, he was supposed to marry Nicole, not some loser who was homeless! "Chairman Joseph, it’s..." "You must want to bless the couple, right? Thank you, Cruse. You are such a good and sensible young man." Barret walked over quickly inside the room, "My Lord, we can go now." "Okay, let's go, Nicole." Nicole glanced at Joseph confusedly. Just as she was about to speak, Joseph cut her off again. "Don't let your mother down," he whispered sadly. Nicole gritted her teeth and gave Joe a vicious look. Well, you will be crying and begging me for a divorce soon, asshole! That night, Joe had the best meal in his life and drank the most expensive wine. Joseph was happy and tears came to his eyes several times at seeing his grandson.  "You are registered today, you are a legal couple now. As for the wedding ceremony, I will throw a big one for you. I hope that you will respect and love each other, and live a happy life in the future," Joseph raised a glass to toast the young couple. Nicole gave Joe a provocative look. "Don't worry, Grandpa, I will treat him well." That night, when they retired to their bedroom, Joe became nervous and stood by the door, because he did not dare to go inside. What was he supposed to do? They had just met yesterday! Nicole threw her arms around his neck shyly. "What's wrong, my dear husband? Don’t you like me?" Joe was flattered. "No...no...I like you." "Then what are you waiting for? Take me to bed. Tonight is our wedding night. Please be gentle with me," Nicole pouted beautifully. Joe immediately felt his knees weakening and his blood boiling. He nodded enthusiastically and led her to bed. He had no s*x in a while and his member was already hardening.   "Close your eyes," Nicole whispered from underneath his body. "Why?" "I have a surprise for you, my dear." Joe closed his eyes immediately. He thought Nicole would take the initiative to kiss him on the lips. However, after a second, he was on the ground, clutching his crotch. "What the f**k!" Joe groaned in pain. Nicole regained her previous arrogance and gave him a cold snort of disdain. "You want to be my husband, huh? A loser craving for something that he is not worthy of." Joe immediately came to his senses when he heard Nicole’s ruthless words. "Well, we are a couple now. Whether you like it or not, I am your legally-wedded husband." As soon as Joe finished the sentence, Nicole growled, walked closer, and slapped Joe hard on the face. "Listen to me carefully. Either you take the initiative to ask for a divorce, or..." "Or what?" Joe asked. "Or you will regret it..." "What are you going do?" "Let us hope you do not find out. I just want to remind you to get out of here before you suffer. Do you understand, you bastard?" Joe kept shaking his head in shock and disbelief. He would have never thought his food fortune would turn into misfortune! "I’m not leaving, I am your husband now!" Joe insisted. "Of course, you won't leave. A beggar like you who has not seen the world would never leave after they live in our house for one night! How can you just leave with nothing, right?" Nicole yelled while looking at Joe disgustingly. "Hey, please be reasonable. Your grandfather asked me to marry you; this was not even what I wanted." Before Joe could comprehend, he was slapped on the face again, Nicole’s sharp nails stinging his skin. "You mean I'm not good enough for you? You know, guys are lined up to marry me! And every one of them is rich and powerful. Who the hell are you?" Nicole shrieked. Joe took out his marriage certificate from his pocket and threw it towards Nicole. "I am your husband, and you are my wife." Nicole snatched it and tore it to pieces, throwing it back in Joe's face. “This is just a piece of f*****g paper. If you dare say this in front of others, I will f*****g kill you." Joe sighed tiredly, he was already fed up with married life and it had not even been a night. Didn’t Chairman Joseph say Nicole had wanted to marry him? Her attitude sure told otherwise. "Don't be angry. Calm down.” Nicole smirked and examined her nails. "All right. But from now on, you have to do whatever I tell you." "Why?" "Because you were adopted into the family. Stop asking so many f*****g questions! Either leave or listen to what I have to say without interrupting.” "I'm not leaving." "Then you will have to do whatever I tell you." "I will do whatever you want on one condition." "You dare to make terms with me? Fine, go ahead." Joe smirked. "Well...tonight is our wedding night anyway. Shall we...fulfill our marital obligations?" Nicole was taken aback for a moment. She raised her hand and slapped him as hard as she could, once again. The nerve of him! Did he think she would f**k a homeless beggar when men lined up at the door to be with her!? "I’m warning you, don't even think about it. If you lay a hand on me, I'll f*****g kill you.” "Okay, I won't touch you. I will sleep on the sofa," Joe sighed dejectedly. He knew that was too much to ask for from Nicole Andrew. "No, you will sleep in the bathroom," Nicole replied arrogantly.
