Joe picked up another hamburger and finished it very quickly. “Should I go shower first?" Joe asked excitedly. They could start now!
"Take your time. Drink some water. Oh, there is a bottle of coke in the kitchen. I'll get it for you."
Soon, Nicole came back with a glass of coke. "There you are."
Joe took it, looked at Nicole, grinned and took a large gulp. The next second, he spewed it all out!
"Oh my god! It's so sour. Is this vinegar?" Joe ran to the trash can and spit out whatever was left in his mouth. The disgusting taste of vinegar still lingered in his mouth.
"Haha...you are such a f*****g i***t!" Nicole clutched her stomach, shaking with laughter.
"You..."
"What? You think I would have s*x with someone who picked up trash for a living? You are craving for what you are not worthy of. I'm going out now. Clean up the mess before I get back, or you will sleep on the lawn tonight," With these words, Nicole left the room haughtily.
Joe was pissed off. He threw the cup in the trash can roughly. He knew it was too good to be true, but his stupid self still believed her tricks.
While he was in a rage, Edith, the cleaning lady walked into the room.
"Edith, please clean this up."
Edith did not even glance at Joe; she just walked away as if she did not hear him.
Joe was stunned. He wondered if his voice had been too low or if Edith had a hearing problem. But even if she had a hearing problem, she had no problem with her eyes, right? She did not say hello even when she knew he was in the room?
Just as he was pondering this, Rachel, who was the chef, walked in.
She was taken aback for a moment when she saw Joe, then she said, "Hello."
Joe smiled warmly, at least she said hello to him. "Good morning, Rachel."
"Good morning. It is almost noon. I am going to prepare lunch."
"Thank you,” Joe nodded. “Rachel, I can't find a mop. Could you clean this up please?" Joe pointed to the vinegar on the floor.
Rachel nodded as if she had suddenly realized something. "No wonder I smell the vinegar."
"I dropped the cup by accident. Sorry to trouble you."
"What were you doing with vinegar?"
Joe did not know how to explain, so he just admitted, "Um…nothing…I was just trying a new…hobby…”
Rachel raised her eyebrows. "You have a very special hobby."
"Well, yes. Just please clean it up."
Rachel looked awkward. "I'm sorry, Joe. Miss Nicole has told everyone not to talk to you or do anything for you. Otherwise, she will be angry. Please don't put me on the spot."
Joe felt angry and annoyed. Damn it, Nicole. I know you do not like me, but going so far as to not allowing others to help me or speak to me. It seems that you are determined to kick me out of here. Fine, I do not want anything else. I will just stay here until I get money and then I will leave even if you want me to stay, Joe thought to himself.
"Fine. So where is the mop? I will clean it up myself."
"Well...I'm sorry, Joe. I have gone against Miss Nicole's orders by talking to you. I've got to start cooking."
She was about to leave in a hurry as if she were running away from a plague.
"Wait."
A deep voice came. It was Barret.
Rachel immediately smiled flatly. "Hello, Mr. Barret."
Barret gave her a very dissatisfied look. "How dare you speak to the Master in such an attitude?"
"Miss... Miss Nicole told us to."
"Nonsense. Miss Nicole was joking with you. You took it seriously, didn’t you?"
"Mr. Barret, Miss Nicole was serious. She said that no one was allowed to help, otherwise, she would fire us..."
"Well, I am telling you, those who dare to disrespect the Master will also be fired immediately."
Rachel glanced tentatively at Barret. Although she was a little intimidated, she did not intend to do as Barret told her. After all, Barret was just a servant like her compared to Miss Nicole. Only a fool would help a servant against his master.
"Mr. Barret, don’t make this difficult for me.”
"Oh, am I? This is not what I said, but what the Lord said. I think you should know whom to listen to."
"The Lord said so?"
"If you do not believe me, ask for proof when the Lord comes back. If you cannot wait, you can call the Lord now."
Rachel did not have the guts to call Lord Joseph. She was still dubious, but she nodded. After all, Joseph was the real master of the family.
"Mr. Barret, of course I believe your words. Since the Lord has said so, I will certainly listen to him. Master Joe, I am sorry. Please forgive me."
Although Joe was still a bit annoyed, he knew that Nicole was the one to be blamed. It had nothing to do with anyone else. "It's okay. Go ahead with your work."
"Thank you, Master." Rachel looked awkward and left the room in a hurry.
Joe sighed in frustration. "Barret, does Nicole hate me that much?"
He expected some words of comfort or encouragement, but Barret nodded without hesitation. "It seems that she does. Miss Nicole hates you more than I thought."
"Damn it, Barret, couldn’t you say something nice, just to make me feel better? Did you have to press salt on my wounds?"
"I can't lie to you, master. I have to be honest with you."
"Aren’t you a little too frank? You might as well have lied to me."
"Master, life is always unsatisfactory. You should actively think of ways to deal with problems. There is no practical use in deceiving yourself."
"I’ve tried very hard finding solutions. I put a lot of thought into it. Besides, I have been very patient with her. I have only been here for a few days. Do you know how many times she slapped me? How many times did she make fun of me? See, she just put mustard in the burgers and asked me to eat them. She made me drink vinegar instead of coke! She does not treat me as a human at all. I don't want to suck up to her anymore.”
"Ah, really? Mustard is not easy to find in a hamburger, but didn’t you smell vinegar? Vinegar smells completely different from coke."
"She played the same trick. She confused me before doing it."
"Did she pour vinegar into your mouth when you were not paying attention?"
Joe wanted to tell the whole story, but he could not do so when he thought of his obsession with her. "It’s hard to explain. Anyway, she is targeting me, and giving me a hard time."
Barret smiled helplessly. "Don't be discouraged, Master. After all, you have only been together for a short time. You need to adjust your personality, life habits, and values. If you find a problem, you must solve it in a targeted manner. Since Miss Nicole looks down on you, you should think of something to change her mind about you. How about you take up a new career?"
"You know, Barret, I'm nothing but a garbage man. What do you think I can do for a career? Am I going to make a career out of trash? Become a Trash King?" Joe replied sarcastically.
"Well, I'm afraid Miss Nicole won’t be interested in that."
"So, what else can I do? She is just..."
Joe suddenly stopped as a question popped into his mind. "By the way, what does that guy’s family do?
Barret was confused. "Which guy?"
"The Arthur guy. What is his name? Curse Arthur, right? Even his name sounds snobbish…”
"I think you mean Cruse Arthur."
"Cruse Arthur? Isn't his name Curse Arthur?"
"No, you remembered it wrong."
"OK, what does that guy do?"
"He works for Arthur Group."
"Is he at a high position?"
"As far as I know, he is an ordinary employee."
"Then I will also work at Arthur Group."
Barret frowned. "Why?"
"Because I think Nicole likes that guy. When I get there, I will work hard and try to become that guy’s boss. That will be sure to impress her…what do you think?”
Barret froze for a second and then smiled. "Master, you are really jealous of him. But you are thinking too much. Miss Nicole and Cruse are just friends."
"I don’t care. I am going to work at Arthur Group. Can you make that happen?"
"Master, I have told you that Arthur Group is the property of the Arthur family. Do you really want to work there?"
"The Arthur family's property?"
"Yes, the chairman of the Arthur Group is Mark Arthur, Cruse Arthur’s father. So even if you become a leader at the Arthur Group, I am afraid you can't be the boss of Cruse Arthur."
