The Bliss Corner

ADRIAN’S POV Ever since my father had died things were getting harder and harder for me at work, I even had to stop the diamond smuggling business because it was too time-consuming. Another reason why I decided it was best for me to let go of the illegal side of our business was that it was the reason I had lost my father and my mother too. In this type of business, one would never know who to trust because everyone always turned out to be your enemy. Although I still had the logistics company to deal with, it was now better for me and less stressful, I could manage this one because I didn’t have to deal with any territory threats or threats from enemies. “Come on man, the office closed hours ago, why are you still here?” Joseph asked me “Joseph I am the boss here and so my working hours are a lot different from yours,” I said “My point exactly, your hours should be very different from Mine but you are always the first one in the office and the last one out, I mean come on man it's as if there is something you are avoiding at home and the last time I checked you are alone,” he said and I sighed “That doesn’t mean anything, you know I am a perfectionist,” I said "I have to make sure everything is up to standard" “Unless you are avoiding being alone at home because it's very lonely,” he said as if he had just gotten the best idea “You know what…you are right, there is something I am avoiding at home. I hate being alone in that house it's too big” I said and he laughed “Then that means you have to come with me to the strip club tonight,” he said and I rolled my eyes. I had confessed to being lonely only because I wanted him to leave me alone but it seemed I had just motivated him to try and convince me to go with him even more. “The strip club…whatever made you think a guy like me loves strip clubs?” I asked “You are a billionaire and you have nice life problems and strippers are there to solve them so just come with me and you know I won’t leave you alone unless you decide to come with me,” he said and I initially had no intention of going with him but he as beginning to get on my nerves. I loved working in silence and he was making that very impossible right now with the whistling that he was doing and everything else he was doing to try and distract me. Joseph was the most annoying of my employees and as if I hadn’t learned my lesson when I met him in high school I decided hiring him to be one of the managers was best. I had met Joseph when we were both in kindergarten and our parents formed a very close bond from then. He was like a brother to me and my father treated him like he was his own son and that was one of the reasons that my father thought it would be a good idea for us to offer Joseph the job at our company because he and I were so close. “Fine, will you stop doing that? I will go with you” I said and he jumped to his feet with a grin “Then let's go,” he said “oh and make sure you are ready to make it rain’ he said with a smirk and I frowned a little confused as to why he would think making it rain was my responsibility ”I am not the weatherman,” I said and he laughed “Tonight you are,” he said “Oh I have so much to teach you,” he said laughing as we got into the elevator and pressed the button that took us to the private parking lot. We both got into my car and I drove us to the strip club while he was directing me. Although Joseph was my best friend, we couldn’t be any more different. He loved the fast life while I loved staying indoors, I guess I had changed a lot after my father died. I used to be a lot like Joseph I loved going out and I loved drinking and all that came with it, including women. However after my father passed away a lot was handed down to me, I suddenly had to grow up at the tender age of eighteen, and although I was now twenty-five. I still felt like I had missed out on a lot. While Joseph and all our other friends were discovering things like the strip club, I was dealing with the most dangerous men in the world. Joseph always said that changed a lot, but I had to change I had to toughen up if my father’s company was going to survive his retirement and death. I had to grow some thick skin if I was going to build a legacy for my children, although today I couldn’t even imagine having children. “Adrian…” Joseph yelled while tapping my shoulder “What is it?” I asked him“I said stop,” he said as I came to a screeching halt” you could have just told me the name of the club” “I did tell you, you were just thinking about work,” he said “I told you the name of the club is The Bliss Corner,” he said as we got out of the car and went back to where the club was because I had passed it. The club was in between two other clubs and I wondered why it was called the bliss corner if it wasn’t even in the corner, to begin with. “Why is it called the bliss corner again?” I asked him and he laughed “I knew you were going to have a problem with that, you need to chill. Not everything has to make sense or be perfect” he said and I tried loosening up but it had been so long since I even went out for a drink I had almost forgotten how to have fun. He spoke to the guard as we passed the line and went and they shook hands as if they were long-time friends. I might not have been active in the clubbing scene anymore but I was still well known and respected, I could tell by the way everyone in the was reacting that Joshua had l already told them he was coming with me even before he had asked me to come with him. I wondered what he would have done if I had rejected his offer and went home instead which I was still tempted to do. I hated crowds and this place was packed, I could see the stage was set up and ready for the next girl to start dancing. There were dollar bills all over the floor and the girls that were serving the drinks were almost naked too. I wondered what Joseph enjoyed in a place like this and I wondered what would make any woman choose this job. However my father taught me one thing and that was to respect another man or woman’s hustle, I could never judge anyone for what they did for a living as long as they were not robbing or killing anyone for the money they made. Joseph led me to the private booth that was at the far right corner of the club and it was also less crowded. As I sat down I realized that not only did this side of the club have the best view of the dancers but it also had an extra pole just in case we wanted our own private dance. We sat down and a girl came and took our orders for drinks and then after that she left, Joseph looked like he was having a time of his life even though we had just arrived and there was no girl dancing. “Alright, alright.. tonight we are serving you with the most delicious, most seductive, juiciest, and freshest fruit yet it is forbidden,” the announcer said and I looked around to see where he was and he was on a much higher platform that was set on the stage. “She is every man’s dream and yet no man can ever have her…please prepare yourselves for Tasha,” he said and the whole place went wild. “Who is she?” I asked Joseph out of curiosity and he laughed and shook his head ”I don’t know her, she must be new” he said ”Then why are they all so excited as if they know her?” I asked him ”They are excited because when the DJ say she is every man’s dream then you better trust that she is,” he said and I rolled my eyes. I couldn’t believe that Joseph had convinced me to come to this place, however, I decided to give it a chance and see what this Tasha had that was so good. I secretly promised myself that if I hated her performance I would stand up and leave the club.
