The next few days was spent signing papers and going through so many procedures.
The adopting center had checked Lilianna's house, workplace, and car. They talked to her employees, customers, and neighbors. Thankfully everything went well.
Lilianna had been to work for half a day, and everything was well, and her employees already knew about her adopting Lia.
Today was officially the day she would get to call Lia her daughter. Just as soon as she signed a paper which Detective Morris was showing her.
"So just sign your name there and everything will be done." She said, pointing to the line that requested for Lilianna's name.
Lilianna's eyes skimmed up and down the papers before she signed and handed it back to Detective Morris.
"Great, it's all done now. Lia is officially now your daughter." Detective Morris said, congratulating her.
"Thank you." Lilianna replied and couldn't contain the smile that broke out in her face.
"You're welcome." She said, shaking her hand.
Lilianna grabbed the carrier where Lia lay playing with a pair of toy keys.
She decided to say goodbye to Detective James before going to celebrate with ice cream.
"Hello Detective James." Lilianna said, waving at him as she walked to his desk.
"Hello, Ms. Guzman. I'm guessing everything went according to plan." He said, smiling at her.
"Yes, it did. I just came to say goodbye seeing that this might be the last time we see each other." She said,
"Yeah." He said slowly,
He looked as if he wanted to tell her something else but decided not to.
"Well I'll let you go back to work. Bye." She said and he said bye too.
Lilianna walked out of the police station and over to the car. She buckled Lia into the car seat and sat the carrier next to it.
She drove to an ice cream shop that was located at a beach. Once there, she parked in an empty spot and switched Lia from the car seat back to the carrier.
She walked into the ice cream shop and got into the small line. When it was her turn, she ordered a vanilla and a chocolate ice cream in a cup.
They sat on a bench that had a clear view of the ocean. The sky was clear today, but it still had some clouds scattered about in the sky.
Lilianna fed Lia a bit of vanilla and then chocolate. It took a while to give her a next scoop because she mainly played with the ice cream in her mouth. Lia would open her mouth wide and poke her finger in her mouth in which Lilianna would have to stop her. She cleaned Lia's mouth and hand each time with a cloth and made funny faces at her.
They were halfway through our ice cream when a woman walked up to them.
"Hello, I'm sorry to disturb you, but I just had to meet this adorable little baby." The woman said and Lilianna could clearly hear her thick Italian accent.
"Thank you, her name is Lia." Lilianna said, smiling at the woman.
"I'm Sana." She replied and stuck out her hand for Lilianna to shake.
"I'm Lilianna." She said, shaking Sana's gloved hand.
She smiled at Lia in a strange kind of way as if she knew her. She soon left afterwards, and Lilianna went back to feeding Lia her ice cream.
After their little celebrating, Lilianna decided to go to Lia. She parked in the owner's spot and got out with Lia.
As she walked through the door, she felt a rush of warmth come over her and she smelled something sweet.
Lilianna walked to her office and sat her purse down before going back outside and sitting at a counter.
Many of her employees walked over to her and greeted her. They gushed over Lia who happen to love the attention.
Lilianna decided to check out some baby books to read to Lia at night and ordered a latte before sitting back down at her table. The place was half packed as people streamed in and out with books and drinks and sweets.
Waitresses and waiters were running back and forth taking and giving orders.
Lilianna stayed and played with Lia and checked the inventory until closing time and this time, she didn't stay over time.
She locked the doors and walked over to the car.
Once she was sure Lia was buckled up properly, she drove off home.
Lia had long fallen asleep during the ride and Lilianna laid her down in the crib half an hour ago since they reached.
Lilianna had heated up some pasta from last night and she was now relaxing in the living room while watching TV.
With the plate half full and a glass of red wine, she watched a movie on Lifetime.
Her phone rang just when the movie went into break.
"Hello." She answered without seeing the caller ID.
"Hello love." Her best friend, Seriana said.
"Hello Seri. How's your trip going?" Lilianna replied, smiling at the voice of her friend.
"Good just put some bastards in jail." She said, laughing and Lilianna joined her.
"What about you. What have you been doing?" Seriana asked,
"Oh, nothing much. Just adopted a baby." Lilianna casually said and Seriana screamed.
"You adopted a baby and you didn't think twice in calling me while that was going on!" She yelled into the phone.
"Well, I thought you were busy." Lilianna replied,
"Oh, I can't wait to see her. What's her name?" She asked and Lilianna could hear the excitement in Seriana's voice.
Unlike her, Seriana had a husband and three kids. Two boys and girl.
"Lia." She said,
"Cute name." Seriana commented,
They spent most of the night catching up and talking nonsense.
Not long after their talk, Lilianna submitted to her bed yearning for sleep saying that she would clean up tomorrow.
