13. A Cursed Hope

Egan   “The witch didn’t want to come. She attacked me instead!” A visibly angry Daniel entered my working room at our mansion. His normally impassive expression was replaced by furrowed brows and a scowl.  Alev laughed non-stop, “you were overpowered by a 5’4”  witch?”  “She must be at least 5’7!” Daniel barked back, making Alev laugh even harder.  Yet I wasn’t laughing. I was furious and upset.  This shouldn’t be happening, not this way.  I looked up at the ceiling accursing fate. Destiny was casting us its mocking smile. Marion couldn’t fall pregnant. We couldn’t find any other survivors, our searches were always ending up in frustration.
